Thank you for your videos, i love your reading vlogs and recently caught up on the past year. They make me excited to read books and just the warm fuzzy feeling. You have the perfect balance in your vlogs, thank you for putting in the effort to make them.
I just read both Dark and Drowning Tide and Voyage of the Damned this month! My thoughts on the former are basically the same as yours, nothing revolutionary but well-done and interesting and a good time. I got a bit emotional at the end, it was just really sweet! I also really liked Voyage of the Damned but do agree that the style will land for you or it won’t. Reading this book for me was like the technicolor cousin of Gideon the Ninth, to the point I’m stunned I haven’t seen people comparing them. Like it’s definitely not at the same level but they are very much kin to one another.
Loved this vlog! I tried reading Voyage of the Damned in a bookstore and couldn't bring myself to buy it, just wasn't vibing with me. The Switch craft was super cute!
I also didn’t like The Wishing Game. I felt like it had way too many cliche tropes and I completely agree with you on the sappy sort of plot holes. Related side note: I really wish authors would stop it with the orphan/savior trope. It’s soooo beyond tired.
It's always hard when you like the concept of a story, but the execution and/or dialogue just doesn't land. Lost Story and Dark & Drowning Tide sound interesting.
why am I JUST NOW realizing a dark and drowning tide is sapphic??? I bought it a month or so ago bc I love Alison Saft but I had no clue it was a sapphic romance. I will be picking it up ASAP
I DNFed Voyage of the Damned when one of the characters more or less revealed that they could read minds and the main character, who is taking point on investigating the murders, didn't find it suspicious at all. 😔
I had nearly bought Voyage because, like you said, the concept and everything seemed right up my alley. I checked goodreads and noted that the narrator was the first thing often critiqued so I held off on it. The moment you said it reminded you of Wizards Frugal Handbook, I knew it would be a pass from me. Major Sanderson fan, and that's one of my least favorite books by him due to the style of narration. Such a shame because the concept of Voyage sounds incredible.
I did not like Voyage at all even though it seemed to be a book that I would like to read. I did listen to it on audible and maybe that was the issue? I stopped listening very early in the book. The Lost Story sounds very interesting - I also like portal stories - and I’ll be picking this one up. Thanks!

This video is so cozy! Always love to watch your vlogs when I take a break from working on my own novel and it is really motivating!

I agree that Voyage of the Damned was like Gideon The Ninth! Glad someone else thinks so too

Such a cozy video.
What are your favorite portal fantasy reads?? I’ve recently gotten into them and loving it!
What do you do after you finish puzzles. Do you keep any favorites to frame?
Any chance you could link that puzzle? It’s gorgeous!
Great cozy video as always 🤗 thank you for always being so honest in your reviews.
Regan would you recommend the espresso machine you have? If so would you share the model?

Lost Story and Dark & Drowning Tide sound interesting.
A second book to House in the Cerulean Sea came out called Somewhere Beyond the Sea. I can’t wait to get the audiobook! 🤍🤍
Omg I also imagined a dark and drowning tide as an anime for some reason haha.

Its low key a life goal of mine to have enough space for a cricut

Also did NOT enjoy The Wishing Game, but gave The Lost Story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
I’m glad I’m not alone!!

I dnfed voyage if the damned- could not deal with the main character and the plot holes were glaring!

Okay I need to make homemade cookies and hot chocolate now 😃 Have you read Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell?
I really liked Voyage of the Damned, but I can see how the narration is either going to be a hit or a miss for people, it definitely has a personality
I love Alison saft 🥹
