    Note that when you hear the shop vac ramp up in speed that means its not moving any air so the motor is running unloaded and at lower amps than when in normal use. An unloaded motor will run at maximum speed and minimum amps.

    PROTIP: About the locking button, stick a small rubber onto it, one of those that you can use as "legs" for small devices such as an internet router or switch box, small round hard rubber sticky leg. You can even cut it to the size if needed. That way you sort of "extend" the button in the Makita and it becomes a whole world easier to use :)
    (I don´t even own the machine yet, will buy it in a couple of weeks 100% and I think I´ll do that xD)

    the dust bag lid is the adapter. also I used this on drywall and the dust collection sucks. there were streams of dist shooting out where the pad met the housing.

      You're right, it does fit on a 2-1/2" hose, but you have to really cram it on there. I think I had tried previously and gave up because I thought it was just a coincidence they were close to the same diameter. The manual doesn't say anything about it either. I think I still prefer the adapter I made, since the dust bag cap has an angled chute permanently attached to it that really cuts down on suction that makes it to the tool.
      Were you using a vacuum for drywall sanding, or just the dust bag?

      A downdraft table would help if you don't want to hold a vacuum in the other hand too.

    Nice review. I just bought this. On the box it says "with built-in vacuum port adapter". What they don't tell you, that adapter only works on the $600 Makita dust collector. I like your solution better!

    So I picked this exact one up today. I went in initially looking to by the 5030k model which was $69. although computer said they had 3 in stock there was actually none on the shelves except for one last one which was this model priced at $89. I got lucky as they offered me this model for $69 for not having the other model. I said hell yea give it here!

    For your vibration comparison - a cordless sander will be heavier, and the added mass will dampen vibration, so it's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. But I appreciate this review. I am trying to decide whether I should pay $5 more for the case (the "K" model). I think I'll go pull the trigger (pun intended)

    Just purchased this sander and have a question. So on setting 1-3 pad only vibrates at different intensities then on speeds 4 and 5 it rotates...is this correct? On speed 4 I can actually hold the disc and keep it from turning is this a safety mechanism or is their an issue with my particular sander.

    • @DoresoomReviews

      Sounds like the dust bag might be full or dust chute blocked? That's the only suggestion I have without looking at it.

  • @cyprezz

    I notice mine doesn't spin until it makes contact with the surface of the thing I sanding, it just vibrate like a sheet sander. Is it suppose to do that? Does the pad spin when you just hold it up in the air when you pull on the trigger?

      I usually use Gator sanding discs: amzn.to/31O3BYc
      But I've been meaning to try the new Sandnet ones from Diablo: amzn.to/39KAppo
      I don't like the regular Diablo ones too much, since the "universal" hole pattern has something like 40% less area for dust collection than a standard 8 hole disc.

      It actually doesn't need an adapter. It's built into the dust bag - just detach the dust bag from the dust bag adapter and shove a hose on the end of that.

    How do u compare it with BOSCH GEX 125?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  7 років тому

      I haven't used any of the the Bosch GEX 125 variants, so I'm probably not the best person to ask. If you're talking about the GEX125-1AE, I really like the aux handle this Makita has and I'm not sure I'd want to give it up. (Also, the GEX125-1AE runs off of 220V, and the Makita off of 110V.) If you're talking about the GEX 125-150 AVE Professional though, I don't really think they're comparable, since the Bosch is 3X the price!

    have you lubricated the bearings on your makita BO5041?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  7 років тому

      I haven't really had the need. I suppose I might consider trying it if the bearing felt rough when rotated by hand, but so far it hasn't shown any indication of damage.
      If you do lubricate them, make sure to use the right grease, and don't overpack the bearing - that can actually lead to overheating and subsequent damage. It looks like replacements are available for around $11 too, if you look up the part number in the illustrated parts breakdown, and Google it.

    Hi
    How is this sander (quick, efficient and aggresive) for removing stock? For example few layers of paint from garden furniture or smoothing wall plaster? I m thinking of getting this model or Makita BO6030. Do you know anything about bo6030 - just to compare them ?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  7 років тому

      This BO5041 handles drywall sanding great, as long as it's hooked up to a shopvac for dust collection. It will also do a good job at handling finishing tasks, but if you really want stock removal, you may want to look at belt sanders. The reason I was using mine for stock removal is that my workpiece was only twice the surface area that my belt sander covers, and I wanted a little more control.
      I haven't had any hands on experience with the BO6030, but it looks like a tank. The 6" disk should allow you to cover more area quickly, but the 2.7A motor rating gives me a bit of hesitancy, since this 5" sander has a 3A rating. You may find the BO6030 bogs down a bit more under load, but I can't say for sure, since I haven't used it myself. Given the choice between the two, I'd pick the BO5041 mainly due to the cost savings - it's less than half the price!
