Bought the Bosch. Extremely satisfied. Low vibration and excellent dust collection with a shop vac. Also, the finish using Diablo sand paper from 80, 100, 120, 180, 220 is great. Plenty of power for hardwoods. Build quality is great.
@@ToolMetrix Just currious if yoy have also had any experience with the one made by Mikita? Based on what I heard I would pick the Makita. Easier to connect a vacuum and faster stock removal. Cost used to be higher on my list, but time saving has a lot of value. Thanks for your efforts, Paul!
Plus the lower vibration of the Bosch is canceled out by the longer time it would take to remove material. You have that lower vibration for longer. I have the Bosch and would trade it in a second for the Makita. The slowness is noticeable for some tasks

@@PortDixieandTheJourneyDogs I'm a woman and new to using sanders and power tools. I do have a rigid wet dry vac to connect the sander to and I need one that doesn't spread the dust all over. Thanks for your comment. ps. I love my ryobi drills, backpack sprayer, leaf blower and string trimmer. But, I think I'll get a Bosch or Makita corded sander.
Loved this. I am a female who knows nothing about sanders (power tools generally) but love to diy and wanted to purchase a cheap sander. Can afford a more expensive one but freight cost doubles everything where I live. This helped me, a lot. Thank you.
I bought the Bauer on the half price sale for $19.99..........I've been enjoying it so much I've probably been getting carried away sanding a trailer I'm making for behind my lawn tractor.........Only time will tell how well it holds up but so far so good working on the trailer and one door I've sanded too.
This was sooo helpful. I am starting to refurbish furniture and I was stuck between dewalk and Bosch. I need to remove paint so I am going with Dewalt. Thank you for all the hard work you put in for us!
thanks so much for putting this together. Getting ready to buy another O sander. I have had Porter Cables for some time but have had electrical problems with the last two. It will be either the Bosch or Makita for me. Was going to spend the big bucks on a Mirka, but have been reading a lot of mixed reviews. So, your review was just what I needed, many thanks.
Hi Scott, thanks for your feedback. I have a Mirka and would give it a ringing endorsement. That price point is tough to take for a lot of woodworkers though, so I didn’t include it here. I wrote a review for wwgoa a few years back, and I’m guessing it’s probably still online if you want to have a look at that.
@@ToolMetrix Hey thanks, I guess the Mirka is the one then. Probably still get a Makitia as a spare. Thanks for all your work, really appreciate your efforts.
Hi Scott, hopefully I'm not steering you astray. I haven't come across much criticism of the Mirka other than price, but it's been a long time since I looked. You probably found it, but here is my review: www.wwgoa.com/article/new-tool-review-mirka-deros-550x-random-orbital-sander/ . That thing is smoooooooooooth..... :)
@@ToolMetrix No, not at all. I was serious about the Mirka and just ordered it shortly ago, but am still going ahead with the Makita as well. Many thanks
My 15-20 year old Makita finally gave up the ghost. After looking at several reviews I bought the Bosch ROS20VSC from Lowes. Couldnt be more pleased. Its a dust dust collector that doubles as a sander. Less dust in the air or on the workpiece than any other sander Ive ever used. Price is right too.
Really nice review. I work as a handyman so will be using it a lot and based on your review I'll go with the Makita. I'll hook it up to a vacuum using plumbers waste pipe (use a basic hair dryer to carefully soften the pipe to slot tightly on).
Great comparison video. I have owned the DeWalt, my shop is in a large basement and because it is a closed in area dust collection has always been important to me. I have two ceiling mount JET AFS-1000B ceiling mount air filters to help keep my lungs clear of dust, I use 3M respirators etc etc. I eventually gave my DeWalt to my son-in-law because dust collection was not good and purchased the Bosch random orbital model ROS20VSC and like you I was amazed at how good it captured dust with the on board canister. I use it with a Fein Turbo II dust extractor/shop vac and could not be happier with the dust collection performance. I did notice right away that the Bosch was not removing as much material as the DeWalt. Not happy about that but it is what it is, my lungs/health are more important. What I also noticed (and tell me if you found the same to be true) was that the Bosch jumped around quite a bit more than the DeWalt I had given away. Regardless of speed or grit of abrasive being used or material being sanded the Bosch model just seems to grab the workpiece and then wants to jump across the workpiece. The DeWalt just ran at any speed/grit/material more smoothly over the workpiece. Not sure if you noticed this or not but it was very noticeable for me when I switched from DeWalt to Bosch. If you have noticed the same I would say this is an attribute that could be added to your comparisons in the future. Just harder to control if that makes sense and requires more work and can cause more muscle fatigue. Reminds me of a how a floor buffer works, they do the same thing until you get the hang of using one. Only with the Bosch sander I don't' think there is any getting the hang of it, it just wants to jump around when it grabs the workpiece and I have never been able to minimize it with acquired skill.
Hi Paul, that's interesting information; thanks for sharing. No, I didn't experience what you are describing. Hard to say why the different experience, but could be any number of variables.
I have one and have refinished a lot of furniture pieces and yes it grabs onto the pieces a lot of the times and forget about attaching a vacuum it gets louder and sticks to the piece of wood..it’s gotten annoying so looking to switch to either a Makita or dewalt soon!
Thanks for your video. I'm female and have abs in the trades and buys Milwaukee for everything. But, that brand is expensive for me since I don't use power tools everyday. I had bought the menards brand 3am random orbital sander for $49 and it died on me after 3 uses. I followed the directions and didn't overheat it and would empty the bin frequently. I am returning it and checking out reviews. Thanks for your review! This helps me narrow down my choices.
I just bought this Bosch, after being a big fan of Bosch and Makita myself I can say this sander is wonderful especially on drywall good power low vibration seems to be built very strong I can attest that this is a good 5 in orbital palm sander
Thanks for the video. I would have loved to see each one hooked up to your shop vac. Every dust port is so different that it would be helpful to actually see how each one looks & feels when it’s hooked up and exactly what adapters are needed to be ready to rock.
Hi Tinkery, Thanks for your feedback. The adapter kit that I showed in the video and sourced in the description was able to connect to each of the sanders except the DeWalt. The Dewalt requires a proprietary adapter that I didn't test. The Bosch came with its own adapter, and I was able to easily connect it to my shop vac using a 2.5" to 1.25" adapter. That connection was very solid. The adapter kit was able to attach to the B&D as well, but that one has two protrusions on the dust port that are used to secure the dust bag, and they block the travel of the shop vac connection. It slides on part of the way, and would stay on fine if you either held the connection while using the sander, or applied a bit of duct tape, which is why I wasn't crazy about the B&D in that respect. The Porter Cable, Makita and B&D used the 3/4" ID portion of the adapter kit to hook up. The TackLife used the 1-1/4" ID connector from the adapter kit.
Very good review- I have quite a few sanders on the shop as well… thanks for acknowledging the dust collections on these units!! I still shake my head at all the different fittings required.. Makes me crazy!! Lol. But it’s Very hard to beat the Bosch … one thing I would consider to advise some less experienced diy-ers are the replacement pads- most will have to be ordered online- but a few can be found at the local brick and mortar stores… may make a difference to some- hell I have bought another Bosch just because I didn’t have a few days to wait for a $48 festool pad to arrive…take care out there !!
Thanks a lot for doing this. I am looking for a Orbital Sander. This was good. I will go with your recommendation and get the Bosch. Thanks. I am building Golf Ball Racks on Wooden bar stools.
I'm on my second Bosch. I have the one with variable speed, so it was a little more expensive. But, the first one lasted me about seven years before it just stopped working. I thought about going the high-end route with a Mirka or Festool, but just couldn't make myself pull the trigger. Ultimately, I really liked the Bosch. So I made a trip to Rockler and picked up another one. Definitely worth the $80 I paid.
Thanks so much for the video. My pick will be DeWalt after watching it because I need to finish the job fast. Don’t have much patience for slow or low power ones.
I have a few years old (?) Black and Decker 2 Amp detail sander (MS2000) which came with both 5" round and 4"x6.75" 'ironing board' shaped pads. I've just used it to sand the surface and railings on a large old pressure-treated deck using 40grit Diablo brand paper discs. It did a great job, consuming about 10 discs, and removing most of the stained/gray wood pretty quickly over about 2 days of work. The dust collector filter worked fairly well as I would have to empty it about every half hour or so. My main issue is the vibration which really didn't seem too bad at first but left my hand and arm tingling to the point of discomfort after just the first day. If the Bosch is so much lower in vibration but also has about half the removal rate of the others I'm curious if it really would be better to use if the work also takes twice as long? Perhaps that's the tradeoff to avoid such problems? Fine for homeowners working for 'free' like myself!
Hi Morry, tough decision. With your arm discomfort I think it would be worth trying a lower vibration unit like the Bosch, but yeah, that slower performance really adds up over the course of a full day.
I have a couple Bosch ROS's, I think Bosch makes the palm sander as a lighter sander, hence the lower amp rating, if you need more power you would probable buy one of their larger sanders.
Noise level with a vacuum attached would be a good addition to this test. My green bosch PEX 300 AE ( made in Hungary!) gets WAY louder when i add a vacuum... so would be nice to see if any manufacturer has taken that into consideration.
Thank you very much for sharing this information, it was very useful for me to decide which sander to buy. On this occasion I decided to buy Bosch. I was very undecided by all the brands that are now on the market. ¡¡¡¡Thank you!!!
I went with the Makita and am very happy with it. I think mine might be the next model up the line though. It was 230 Euro in Germany, with two 18V batteries, the fast charger, and a modular, stackable case for everything.
I usually buy dewalt, and have one that needs a new pad. But getting older I like the Bosh for lower vibration, my question is can you make up for speed of removal by lowering the grit, starting with something more aggressive when faster removal is needed, then the only difference is one more sanding pass at the lower grit, being that the higher grits would be the same more or less? With less fatigue maybe I won’t mind sanding for a few more minutes? I’m gonna buy the Bosh and a replacement pad for my Dewalt, and compare. Hopefully I remember to update this post and let you know!
Help!! I never purchased a sander before and I'm looking to purchase a multi-purpose sander for my rusted lanterns that I would like to buff and repaint and some wooden winter sled props. Which sander would be best?
You need to try the Bosch ROS20VS, so much more power and still the low vibration . I've used it before for extended time periods and have never had hand fatigue.
Thanks for your suggestion, Keith. It’s interesting that it has so much more power as both motors have the same amp rating at 2.5. My assumption is that the difference is primarily the variable speed option. I do like variable speed and I like to slow down the speed when sanding small items. I have a ROS65VC which is one of my main sanders. That’s powerful and very smooth as well.
I hav use the makita ,dewalt and bosch sanders. The makita dust bag is good how ever the sander seems to become shaky after a short space of time, the bosch is also good however the dust collecter is easy to fell off after a short space of time and machine feel lose after short space of time, the dewalt seems to be the one that's stand out the machine doesn't feel lose after and short space of time like the other, t dust bag doesn't feel off easily after been use over a period of time, the backing pad also is of good quality. This i just my views after using these machine for a long period of time. My next purchase will be the matabo palm sander to see how long it can keep up
Hi Dan, I like that idea. And not only loading it but gripping it. My old PC is great but I find that I have to reinsert the paper a lot. It’s pretty because I use heavier backed paper than it was designed for but it would be nice to find one that could hold that stuff better.
I had a Black & Decker. Looks to be the same as this one and it lasted for years with medium use. It just died on me and wouldn't remove any material and bogged down with any pressure at all. It was at least 10 years old. I would have picked one of the faster ones as best and sacrificed smoothness. Makes more sense to me to get the wood removed and done with unless you got time and really enjoy sanding.
Yep it’s crazy! $66 on Amazon. Honestly though I was kinda surprised by how cheap it was when I bought it. They seemed like they cost $50 for the past 20 years.
@@ToolMetrix You might want to list the orbit, as the orbit has a big impact on the finish and the speed to remove material....any of the models have a 3/32" orbit?
Thanks for the review, Paul. I've had a 5" Festool for probably 15 years. Occasionally it jumps around a lot and I'm thinking of replacing it. Still undecided, but your review is helpful. What specifically made you pick the Bosch over the Makati?
Hi Charlie, you will have a hard time going from Festool to any of these. I wonder if it could be repaired? If you want to get a new one, I'd suggest Mirka. I love mine (come on down and give it a try). Or a new Festool. It was a very close call for me, Bosch vs. Makita. I leaned toward Bosch simply because of the smooth operation, while others would have likely picked Makita when considering the same test results. It feels more like you are running a Festool. The Makita removes stock at a rate that is probably more similar to your Festool, and is a great tool overall. A great performer in every respect, within its class.
@@ToolMetrix Thanks Paul. I've also got a 6" Rigid which is actually pretty good. I kind of forgot about it because it is kind of heavy, but I think I'm going to use it for a while before making any decisions on a new sander. I don't know exactly what it would cost to repair the Festool, but I'm not sure that I want to put anything into that particular sander.
Hi Debbie, I only tested on wood. You would want to find some abrasives that are specific to metal. Also, definitely hook it up to a shop vac for sanding metal; you don't want to breath that dust.
@@ToolMetrix it doesn't right indeed.. that's why I claim it's warranty,on the way to replace it..I felt disappointed actually, but I will try to give another chance,if it's still the same result,I'm going to replace it with Makita..
I bought the Makita that you show in your comparison video. I used it today, and it wants to tip over. I have to really try to keep it level. I think squally do not press down when using sanders. Do you have any suggestions ?
It's definitely one important category and it makes it a trickier choice. That's why I clearly communicated results in multiple categories for many different sanders, allowing you to choose based on what is most important to you.
@@ToolMetrix I got a question if u don’t mind , so I currently have a porter cable 6in sander that is a polisher also, is there a difference in the results between that style and the basic 5in orbital sanders in this video? As far as seeing any sanding marks or anything I may be missing
@@josephromero1596 ua-cam.com/video/uBSOan7D1Ow/v-deo.html this video illustrates what they remove, how well they remove, and if it has any feathering around the outside and inner circle and to what degree. 6inch tool will usually have a longer "throw" so removes more edge to edge, good for large coverage, 5in is slighty less efficient so you need to overlap your passes a bit more. Skip to 13min40 seconds and you'll see for yourself. If you are sanding often you should probably get both a 5 and a 6 inch
Wish I could see just how much performance you give up with the Bosch vs the Makita or DeWalt. You noted the worst was like 2x slower and the Bosch is pretty much in that area by the rating. Does it sand at half the speed? If so how could that be more use friendly? Any way you could elaborate why you like the Bosch so much? Thanks for the video
@@ToolMetrix I hate vibration but was kind of thinking that a little less vibration for twice as long might be worse than more for half the time I guess. How much smoother would you say the Bosch is by feel? It like so smooth you could run it all day and never think about it vs 20 min with numb hands with the others? Thanks for the update as it's really helpful! Wish I could try them both 😢
I’ve always used the Dewalt sander but I’m going to try a different brand because the Dewalt only has lasted a year at most, I have to buy a new one every year so thanks for the video
I hadn’t seen this line before. Seems that the green line is designed and priced for the DIY market rather than for professional use. But I don’t have any specifics.
Funny, I came here looking to see if there was a better orbital sander than what I already have, and it turns out, I have the Bosch which you rated best overall!!!🤣🤣🤣
South of France is on my bucket list. Hopefully someday. Been to Paris a few times, Versailles, and Normandy Beach area once. Loved every moment and can’t wait to go again.
I am really concerned about fine wood dust. The Bosch machine seems to be the only sander with an integrated filter in its dust system. Does the filter actually work better in capturing fine dust than say the Dewalt where there there is no filter in its bag?
project farm did a battery orbital sander roundup and shows small dust and large dust particle collection differences. It's still isn't a perfect test because he's in a controlled environment with the collector inches away where you, your air flow, your air space volume, your movements, your stuff in the way all would be X factors that could sway one way or another. Best practice is of course the obvious, use a high quality filtering mask, vacuum attchment if you can, and take breaks.
I've read the hook and loop on makita wears quickly and has to be replaced regularly. You didn't put a ton of miles on these for the review but did you have any evidence of that?
You’re right. Unfortunately I don’t have enough hours on these tools to have formed a valid opinion on that. It doesn’t seem prone to problems based on what I have seen so far, however.
Look for something called an 'interface pad', or a 'backer pad'. That's a separate foam rubber disc with hook and loop on each side. You use it between the tool and the sanding discs to help avoid damage to the tool's H&L. When it gets worn, you replace it for a much lower cost than trying to buy a new replacement pad for the tool.
Great video, there was one thing I'm curious about though. Would Variable speed also be a.... variable? I don't mind either bosch or makita but now stuck on whether variable speed is something to really think about🤔
Hi Eggy, thank you. Yes, variable speed is a nice option. I use it when I'm sanding small items, and holding them on the sander with the sander inverted. That gives me better control. For most sanding, however, I leave it full speed at all times.
My Dewalt is loud and a little klunky. I have to change the paper after small surface area or it goes nowhere. Also, on its second project, the face of the hook and loop pad came off. I’d like the option to use any type of paper. But, No, I glued the pad back on. Getting ready to go see if it’ll hold. It’s just ok. Oh , btw, the little dust bag is garbage. Barely works. I’m a little annoyed I have to go buy the connector. I’m surprised I’m not happier with this. I bought the tiny but mighty 20V Atomic impact drill and I love it. So does my brother. He put in a very thick garage door frame and lots of random chores in my new house. Plus the front door will be redone as well. That battery works a-long-time!
Definitely wouldn't pick the Bosch as it may be lower vibration but you're going to be feeling that vibration way longer. Guess I'd have to vote for the Makita or DeWalt myself. What's a Milwaukee like?
Dust management is so critical, especially to the life of the machine. Sealed bearings don't mean anything when the rotor and brushes get clogged full of a bunch of dust and gunk. Easy attachment to a shop vac seems like such a no-brainer that not having it make me not even want to consider them.
I actually dislike the Bosch dust catcher quite a lot. It is a pain in the butt to open and close. I like the Bosch but the hook and loop has now failed and I’m waiting on the replacement. While I wait I purchased the Dewalt and it’s powerful, way more powerful than the Bosch. I also prefer the dust collection
@@ToolMetrix no prob. Day two of use with the Dewalt. Extra care definitely be needed for tighter areas if you forget to lower the speed. Over all I’ve really “enjoyed” the Dewalt for cutting through epoxy and CA glue over knots and cracks in the alder I’m using and it makes light work of getting that last 220 done
All of the data is clearly presented. My rationale was was stated. Others make different choices because they value other attributes (price, power, etc).

I bought the Bauer on the half price sale for $19.99..........I've been enjoying it so much I've probably been getting carried away sanding a trailer I'm making for behind my lawn tractor.........Only time will tell how well it holds up but so far so good working on the trailer and one door I've sanded too.
That’s a great deal!
This was sooo helpful. I am starting to refurbish furniture and I was stuck between dewalk and Bosch. I need to remove paint so I am going with Dewalt. Thank you for all the hard work you put in for us!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching, Brittny. Cheers, Paul
thanks so much for putting this together.
Many thanks
That’s a great lineup!
Great choice. Sounds like the makita served you well!
This comparison review was very helpful. I'm leaning towards the Bosch myself. Thanks for this.
Thanks for watching!
I'm buying my first sander to refinish a dresser (my first time). Thank you for this, sir.
Thanks for watching. Glad that you found it useful. Cheers, Paul
Really nice review. I work as a handyman so will be using it a lot and based on your review I'll go with the Makita. I'll hook it up to a vacuum using plumbers waste pipe (use a basic hair dryer to carefully soften the pipe to slot tightly on).
Great choice and I like the vacuum connector idea 👍
Thanks for watching, Kris. Cheers
I just bought this Bosch, after being a big fan of Bosch and Makita myself I can say this sander is wonderful especially on drywall good power low vibration seems to be built very strong I can attest that this is a good 5 in orbital palm sander
Thanks for sharing your feedback!
Cool!!! Good to know. I am using it sand paint off drywall and wood.
You just saved me hours of research. Thank you!
That’s great to hear!
Good stuff, buying a Bosch today! Couldn't wait on a Project Farm this comparo is pretty good!
Thanks for sharing your feedback Samurai. Cheers, Paul
$48 pad omg. Similar on my Mirka. Ugh.
Thanks for the great comparison. Just ordered the Bosch
Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks a lot for doing this. I am looking for a Orbital Sander. This was good. I will go with your recommendation and get the Bosch. Thanks. I am building Golf Ball Racks on Wooden bar stools.
Thanks for watching. Best of luck
Thanks for the feedback, Todd. I agree that is a good value.
Thanks so much for the video. My pick will be DeWalt after watching it because I need to finish the job fast. Don’t have much patience for slow or low power ones.
Great. Thanks for your feedback 🙏
How have you liked your dewalt
I think you’re right. I suspect that it the rationale. Thanks for your input. Cheers, Paul
Thanks, this was exactly what I was looking for. Also, you just earned me as a new subscriber, I look forward to checking out your other videos.
Thanks Jonathan. Cheers, Paul
Noise level with a vacuum attached would be a good addition to this test. My green bosch PEX 300 AE ( made in Hungary!) gets WAY louder when i add a vacuum... so would be nice to see if any manufacturer has taken that into consideration.
Interesting. Hadn’t thought of that. Good suggestion. Thanks Gary.
Thank you very much for sharing this information, it was very useful for me to decide which sander to buy. On this occasion I decided to buy Bosch. I was very undecided by all the brands that are now on the market. ¡¡¡¡Thank you!!!
Thanks for watching 🙏
I went with the Makita and am very happy with it. I think mine might be the next model up the line though. It was 230 Euro in Germany, with two 18V batteries, the fast charger, and a modular, stackable case for everything.
Yeah that’s a totally different tool. Great product though. Cheers
DBO180, I checked. @@ToolMetrix
omg- so much work was put in this video. thank yo so much.
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching. Cheers, Paul
great video! answered all my questions! took me a while to find this
Hi Brad, thanks for sharing your feedback. Glad it was helpful. Cheers, Paul
I wouldn’t drop down to a lower grit for that reason. Ultimately it will slow you down.
Thanks for putting all this information together.
Thanks Daly 🙏
Thank you sire! you really make it easy to me! now i know wich sand paper i need!!!
👍
@ToolMetrix any chance you can post the DB outputs of these?
It looks like you showed the Dewalt have 99 db's and then you said the others are in the 95 db's range? is that true for the bosch and makita?
Sorry I don’t have any data other than what I included in the video and I no longer have the sanders.
Apologies if I missed something
Help!! I never purchased a sander before and I'm looking to purchase a multi-purpose sander for my rusted lanterns that I would like to buff and repaint and some wooden winter sled props. Which sander would be best?
That’s an interesting application. Sorry I’m not sure what sander would be best. Maybe a palm sander or detail sander.
How is dust collection in each when attached to a vacuum. How do you connect a vacuum to the dewault
Sorry I don’t recall. I no longer have the sanders.
Do you have any pics of the horses afterprim(ng to see how well this worked?
No sorry I don’t.
My next purchase will be the matabo palm sander to see how long it can keep up
Hi David, that's great information; thanks for sharing. I'd love to hear what you think of the Metabo unit. They make some great products.
** Have you ever checked out the quality and longevity of the Jellas tools ie. jigsaw and/or random orbital sanders , belt sander etc.
Hi Bear, thanks for your question. No, I’m not familiar with Jellas.
Based on your rec here, I bought the corded Bosch. I'll let you know how I like i!
Awesome thanks 🙏
I came here because I’m choosing between Bosch and makita! Lol I guess I’ll go to each the blue and orange store and see what feels better in the hand
Good idea. Can’t go wrong either way.
you did a great job presenting the facts - thanks you
Thanks 🙏
Great test Paul.
Thanks Steve 🙏
I have Dewalt random orbit sander and I agree it has a very strong vibration like the tool itself want to sand me off too.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers.
If you ever test the 1/4 sheet sanders it would be interesting to know which brand has the best system for loading the paper.
Hi Dan, I like that idea. And not only loading it but gripping it. My old PC is great but I find that I have to reinsert the paper a lot. It’s pretty because I use heavier backed paper than it was designed for but it would be nice to find one that could hold that stuff better.
I have owned several brands of these sanders and this has been the biggest issue for me. Right now I am using a Makita and it works pretty well.
Good to know. Thanks Dan.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Cheers
Excellent video. Appreciate your efforts and time. Thank you :)
Thanks for watching, Vassy. Cheers
This review is simple and honest i like it
👍
Thank you!
Rigid is a good one. My platform is Makita . I just bought one. Works great so far.
Good to know! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this here.
I like the lower center of gravity and more compact build with DeWalt. Be nice if you could get low vibration and high performance.
Good perspective. You can definitely get both together but it is expensive. My Mirka is a great example. Festool as well.
Good job on this review. Interesting video
Thanks Radek! 🙏
Wow $49 for the Bosch 2 years ago. I just got it for $60 on sale at Lowe’s. Cost for everything is so high!
Yep it’s crazy! $66 on Amazon. Honestly though I was kinda surprised by how cheap it was when I bought it. They seemed like they cost $50 for the past 20 years.
Which model has a brake when turned off? Have lost a few sander that walked off the table, hit the floor and bent the spindle...
Hi Michael, sorry, I'm not sure.
@@ToolMetrix You might want to list the orbit, as the orbit has a big impact on the finish and the speed to remove material....any of the models have a 3/32" orbit?
Very very good reviews thanks, very methodical
Thanks for the feedback Ryan. Cheers, Paul
Do you think the soft pad on the Bosh had anything to do with it not removing as much ?
No I don’t. I think it uses a smaller rotation pattern.
@@ToolMetrix thanks, needing a new sander. Appreciate the feedback. Helps a lot.
Yeah I don’t blame you. Might as well put the money toward your new Mirka… 🤔
My Bosch out performs my Festool. Just saying. I just got my festool just a couple of months ago but, I've gone back to using my 3-year old Bosch.
Nice!!!
I’m amazed at how cheap all these are in the US. In the UK they’re more than twice the price
Prices have jumped up a lot here as well. Crazy economy right now.
In Brazil they are about 10x . The DeWalt Makita Bosch goes over 500 BRL . very expensive
Inflation of the country it went up accordingly
Yep there’s been a bit of inflation since I made this video.
Don’t you pay tax on everything you buy ?😂
Amazing review! 👍
Thanks for watching, Carolina 🙏. Cheers, Paul
Super helpful info! Thank you!
Hi Lori, thanks for watching and for sharing your feedback. Glad you found it useful. Cheers, Paul
Do all of these sand different material types? I heard you say plastic I am interested in rusted metal?
Hi Debbie, I only tested on wood. You would want to find some abrasives that are specific to metal. Also, definitely hook it up to a shop vac for sanding metal; you don't want to breath that dust.
Great job on all the sander. I'm going with the Bosh, seems like the price is right and what's a few more minutes sanding if it's comfortable thanks
Thanks for watching and for sharing your feedback with us, Gene. Cheers, Paul
How would you compare the ridgid to these brands
I haven’t use one enough to compare.
I just bought the Bosch, but is it normal to be so hot after a few minutes use? I think it's over heating, coz my hands felt so hot to touch it..
No that doesn’t sound right. I didn’t notice anything like that.
@@ToolMetrix it doesn't right indeed.. that's why I claim it's warranty,on the way to replace it..I felt disappointed actually, but I will try to give another chance,if it's still the same result,I'm going to replace it with Makita..
@@ToolMetrix by the way, how's your update on Bosch nowadays? You still using it?
Good plan
I didn’t keep any of the sanders from this test. I use a 6” Bosch and a mirka
I bought the Makita that you show in your comparison video. I used it today, and it wants to tip over. I have to really try to keep it level. I think squally do not press down when using sanders. Do you have any suggestions ?
“Usually do not push down”
Maybe build a cradle for it?
well i was about to order that Bosch as it looked to win but has the least power??? isnt that one of most important categories???
Bosch is smooth, less vibration. Yes, sands at half the speed. Makita is a great choice as well.
Wish I could try them both 😢
It’s hard to describe and I no longer have the sanders. I’ve never sanded all day or even close.
Bosch for $50 is a no-brainer. I can only find it for $80 now. Is the softer pad on it going to wear out faster than the others?
It’s hard to say but it seems not only softer but great quality as well. It doesn’t seem prone to wearing faster than the other ones.
The Bosch unit is currently $55 using the Amazon link in the video description.
i have the bosch, the pad is garbage and sanding disk fly off. I've changed it twice and it's still garbage.
@@chingonbass Yeah that's just about every pad. You really have to baby them
I’ve always used the Dewalt sander but I’m going to try a different brand because the Dewalt only has lasted a year at most, I have to buy a new one every year so thanks for the video
And also they won’t stand behind there warranty (Dewalt)
Good to know. Thanks !
Is the Green bosch sander no where as good as the blue?
I’m not familiar with the green one.
Im referring to the BOSCH PEX 220 A
I hadn’t seen this line before. Seems that the green line is designed and priced for the DIY market rather than for professional use. But I don’t have any specifics.
Funny, I came here looking to see if there was a better orbital sander than what I already have, and it turns out, I have the Bosch which you rated best overall!!!🤣🤣🤣
If you are looking for an upgrade check out Mirka. Bosch is awesome in this class but Mirka is in a different class. It’s not cheap but it’s superb.
Bosch offers only 1y warranty in the US ? Damn, here the mandatory minimum is 2 and they offer an additional year if you register it on their website
Good to know. I’ll register mine where you live 😀
@@ToolMetrix The 2 years minimum is a european mandate :) Add for the additional year I think they do it everywhere in EU but I'm in france :)
Lucky to live in France. Beautiful place, wonderful culture.
@@ToolMetrix I'm actually from basque country (south of France) ! Definitely beautiful I agree with that :) Have a nice day!
The all have filters; just different types. I think that the Bosch style is best, but it's hard to prove that in my simple tests.
project farm did a battery orbital sander roundup and shows small dust and large dust particle collection differences.
@@MorryB
Should be done on any orbital...hard to find the actual rubber base h&l pad in stock anywhere. Just ran into that this past weekend.
@@ToolMetrix Really appreciate the reply, and again thank you for such informative video!

Another great tool video!✅👍🏻 Any reason you didn’t include the Ridgid sander? Thanks!
Thanks, Steve! I should have included that one, and the Metabo. Probably a few more.
Definitely wouldn't pick the Bosch as it may be lower vibration but you're going to be feeling that vibration way longer. Guess I'd have to vote for the Makita or DeWalt myself. What's a Milwaukee like?
Makita would be a great choice. Milwaukee didn’t have a corded option in this price range when I did the test so I don’t know.
@@ToolMetrix thanks for the information and video!
Well analysis i go for makita or Bosch
Both good options
Great video for people like me who really don't even know where to begin, think Dewalt may be the winner for me
Thanks for watching, and for sharing your feedback. Best of luck with your sander choice. Cheers, Paul
were all these singe speed?
all of them except the tack life if I remember correctly.
Dust management is so critical, especially to the life of the machine. Sealed bearings don't mean anything when the rotor and brushes get clogged full of a bunch of dust and gunk. Easy attachment to a shop vac seems like such a no-brainer that not having it make me not even want to consider them.
Great point. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
Christ, inflation is hitting hard. I bought that Dewalt one today. Just an hour ago, and it cost me 80
Ugh! It’s crazy.
Bosch is truly the BEST. Yes it is less powerful but it is the most comfortable sander to use without wearing headphones.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. Cheers
Where's Milwaukee?
At the time I did this test they only had cordless available.
Which one was the most powerful crazy. I want the highest one
I believe that was mentioned in the video
No ridged?
I couldn’t afford to buy them all. I tried to get a good representation of options.
@@ToolMetrix just curious, I have a ridged that is dying and need to replace it.

Has the Bosch doubled in price in less than three years? The link to Amazon has it priced at $99.95. Phew. Inflation.
Yep! Ugh!!!
Bosch blue or Makita then dewalt..
thanks for weighing in!
I got makita and bosch, both good
Thanks for sharing this information. Cheers
Haha the Black & Decker label looked like it said "BAD"

I actually dislike the Bosch dust catcher quite a lot. It is a pain in the butt to open and close. I like the Bosch but the hook and loop has now failed and I’m waiting on the replacement. While I wait I purchased the Dewalt and it’s powerful, way more powerful than the Bosch. I also prefer the dust collection
Great information. Thanks for sharing.
@@ToolMetrix no prob. Day two of use with the Dewalt. Extra care definitely be needed for tighter areas if you forget to lower the speed.
