the soloist has an incredible voice and stage presence. The choir blends beautifully. My favourite part is when the sopranos came in toward the end singing "ahh". And the girl at the end of the middle row on the left is just so into it. She does this really cute little shimmy near the end that is just the epitome of joie de vivre. I really love this choir!
I was feeling down and worthless, like I had nothing to give and no reason left to live. This song came on the radio. Now I'm filled with Holy Spirit and overflowing with joy - ready, able, and eager to serve Jesus. And possibly driving my husband slightly crazy because I'm playing it on repeat. 😜 Alleluia.
The girl in the second row all the way to the left makes me so happy. So into it, appropriately, like I would be if I was singing such a glorious song. You go girl!
sang this song in an all state choir in HS--in Stockton CA at UOP. Not religious then or now, but it was electrifying to sing! The solos were amazing, but we were not anywhere near this good!
Carol Coles, the finest precision with the heart and the deepest feeling of soul that the vocal precision can bare and bring out the love within all of us as we listen and pray.
It's good to know how the joy of the lord is still felt even in the midst of injustices. "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies, thou annoinest my head with oil my cup runneth over."
Sounds good, I love how the director got out of the way and sang with the choir, brilliant !! Many directors like to just fling their arms for the hell of it when it isn't necessary. Bravi tutti
🤔🤔 I’m sorry to hear your conductor, was merely an arm flinger. Maybe he/she was an imposter. I never have experienced that or seen flingers, or the problems it causes for the choirs, bands or Orchestras, while they perform. Man, I am picturing the whole thing! 😅😂
I really enjoyed this choir. they sound majestic. I really enjoyed the lead singer too. he was very distinguished. loved this. to the director, keep it up. love this song too.
I remember singing that song in the concert choir at Parker high school just like that beautiful song get out of my way let me praise my Jesus ain't got time to die beautiful
We ask forgiveness of the slaves whose music now inspires us so. Negro spiritual music gave direct contact with the divine and is now forging friendships, love, and peace. Thanks to performers and for posting.
I heard this song in Winners Shiloh 2016.... It has remain my most favorite song.... It's my best year 2016 song...... Nice job by the choir. "... I ain't got time to die 'cos I'm busy working for my master(JESUS).
What the antigod fear the most, the truth. We are one in Christ. An eternity of praise to the Almighty is closer today than ever before. Praise His Holy Name. Have listened about 10 times and now in favorites. Amazing voices well done.
ok so i am not all that religious - more spiritual - but this is one of my FAVORITE gospel pieces to listen to. really resonates with me. beautifully done.
amen, a true homage to your people.. some of my favorite worship music are "negro spirituals". I have a whole playlist dedicated to this genre. There was a german theologian who was eventually put to death by the Nazi Party named Dietrich Bonhoeffer. At one point he came to America and fell in love with these type of spirituals. He could've stayed in America and avoided the whole mess back home, but God convicted him he had to go suffer with his people so he went back to Germany. He wrote a book that's become a classic called The Cost of Discipleship and also his Letters from Prison. There's also a movie about him called Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace.
I saw this live last January at the Music Performance Scholarship concert! It was twice as good in person! (and that's saying something, because this is amazing) Concordia has a solid music department, but the choir is by far the best ensemble they have.
@tafunahigh A lot of the solo is Chris' own improvisation and the addition at the end is completely Clausen's own doing. I have the sheet music and it just ends on an E flat chord.
Wouldn't it be nice if all Blacks & Whites could sing together in harmony and the spirit of brotherhood, caring for each other's basic human needs; uplifting each other in times of distress? "Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted" (Ephesians 4:32).
Can anyone explain why this is a different version than all of the other ones? The 7th chords at the end is awesome. Is this Clausen's own addition or is this actually in Johnson's arrangement? Would like to know because I would like to use this version for my choir this year. Thanks for your help.
thank you VanSensei! appreciate your reply to my post. can you please give me the this exact arrangement information? are there more than one Johnson's arrangement? do you have the catalog number? again, really appreciate your help. thank you.
Very good performance. Only thing is that this isn't an arrangement. Hall Johnson wrote it from scratch as an original composition, in the style of a spiritual. It's so spot on that it sounds exactly like an arrangement of an older spiritual, even though it's not. He knew what he was doing!

The soloist is fire!

I can't get enough of this! The soloist is AWESOME!!! He is FULL of the Holy Spirit! Hope his is still singing!

Kenney is an amazing soloist - what power and expression! This is one of my favorites, and he's made this piece even more amazing than it already is!
It's good to know how the joy of the lord is still felt even in the midst of injustices. "Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies, thou annoinest my head with oil my cup runneth over."
If I don’t praise Him, the rocks will cry out!
Love this version. Glory to God! Amen!
Magnificent performance

This song will never leave my heart. Loooove
I remember singing that song in the concert choir at Parker high school just like that beautiful song get out of my way let me praise my Jesus ain't got time to die beautiful
Now THAT was cool! Great solo and ensemble synergy!
I love the fact that Clausen adds the seventh to the final chord, it's a really cool effect.
Nice, nice rendition. Great soloist, great job by the choir and director on this
the soloist was amazing like 😍😍
Outstanding! That ending was spectacular! Even the background vocals shined!
So good! Currently on repeat.. Way to bring it Concordia College Choir.

That was amazing! I heard this song during a festival and now I can't get the song out of my head! Wonderful song.

Amen!!!
Having heard several arrangements. I like this the best
Have you heard Acapella's?
I've always loved this song. Sang it at Rick's College back in 1979.
Wow, really wonderful perfomance! Beatiful voice and passion :) And I really like how the girl on he is enjoying the sining :D
Our choir director led this song today, after almost 40 years at the same church today was his last day. It was fantastic.
Bravo! That was fantastic! I have sung that as part of the choir too!
I don't understand how the choir is standing still. This is music that makes you move!
The conductor was very sensitive and corageous to step aside and let them do it. Thank you.
Awesome. I feel the energy.
ok so i am not all that religious - more spiritual - but this is one of my FAVORITE gospel pieces to listen to. really resonates with me. beautifully done.
i'm an african american from the deep south south but i respect this

What a solo! Outstanding! I'd be on my feet cheering!
Wow that was really sad and beautiful!!
Powerful!
I recall this song from high school, but never heard it like this!

Had this song on my mind today.
Wonderful Chris and choir!

FANTASTIC CHRIS!
I Googled who Christopher Kenney was and it turns out he's doing his Master's in Vocal Performance. Not surprised at all.

Nice job.
Glory and Honor!~
I kind of doubt that the foot tapping at 0:44 was choreographed, but I love. Fills the space in a very minimalistic way.
to get thelast laugh i want this title caved on my grave stone.
ALL I CAN SAY IS GET OUT OF MY WAY LET ME PRAISE MY SAVIOR!!!
2:15 is Soulfully In Sync
@skynasaur ...no it was me, the guy with the big, floppy hands during the applause. Brother of the videographer and father of one of the Alto II's.
PRAISING MY LORD I AIN'T TIME TO DIE, SO GET OUT OF MY WAY

Unreal. Kenney is now a professional opera singer. Small wonder.

Shout-out to GJHS. Whats up folks
Any way you tell me what notes you guys added at the end so that I can try it with my choirs.
Preston Bowthorpe I’m not the conductor. Sounds like a 13th
Was that Kieth W. laughing at the end of the clip?
