The interviewers think they're playing a celebrity game. Though he was treated rudely, Ford still gave him an idea of his artistic outlook. It's great he named two of his films that he thought were good.
I find it hard to believe that Ford wasn't over enthusiastic about his great films like Stagecoach and The Searchers, or was this just bullshit. Whatever, he was a wonderful director and a great character.
Why is it that if you're not self congratulatory or obsessed with your own work people think you're some kind of hard ass, or that there's something wrong with. They seem more interested in what your opinion of yourself is than in the things you actually do.
Actually, I believe Ford was telling the truth and don’t believe Ford is pretending. There is another interview where Ford was describing the very beginning of the movie business. I was fascinated until the interviewer interrupted, changed the subject to politics and it went down hill from there. It was an opportunity lost. No wonder Ford gets testy. The news people want controversy and think that must be what they’re taught in school.
The interviewer may have wanted to say "You profess" or "You claim" ("pretendre") which does not carry the sense of deception that is implied by "pretend," in English. Frankly, the French team probably should have chosen an interviewer with a more perfect command of English and a less prosecutorial tone of voice.
He was a blue collar artist, he just got the job done and his job was filmmaking, that's all it had to be for him, I think a lot of people would benefit from just thinking about artistic endeavors as blue collar work, just put in the hours, get good and make good stuff.
I know that Lynch did an excellent job in the Fablemans, but if I had to choose a man - another director who also acted, by the way - to play old John Ford, it would've been Dan O'Bannon. The resemblance in their attitude, gestures, tone of voice is uncanny.
The fact that he despises TV commercials make me admire him that much more
Ford never admitted he was an artist. Which is all he ever was.
I love the way he answered the questions 😄❤
Coolest man on earth ever. Love him and his movies; wish we still had more guys like him.
David Lynch was perfect for this part. John Ford seems like a cynical version of David Lynch. An alternate reality Lynch.
YES!
And like all alternate reality counterparts, he even wore an eyepatch
This guy looks like Matt Groening.

Absolutely hilarious and bizarre that the French journalist thinks he has to SHOUT.
Ford was, in fact, hearing impaired at that age. He refused to wear a hearing aid.

this guy is a goddamn pirate

“There’s never been a successful remake.” That stands true today.
Well, he made a remake of one of his own movies, and it was pretty damn good.
How did that guy get the job as an interviewer?
He's interrogating John Ford.
Why Ford doesn't get up and walk out is surprising.

Can't believe this guy created The Simpsons
It’s clear and pretty obvious why it’s a rare interview 😂🤣 John Ford punched the “Prosecutor” by the end!

Rudest interview I've ever seen, the Old Man should have cut it short.
Well, I mean, yeah. It's John Ford.
