This video, like countless others, rapidly jumps to including Photoshop and Lightroom in the process. We seem to be led to believe that impressive photography is impossible without the acquisition of these products.
I just finished doing a 3 hour shoot with my cheese gradder and fortnite loading screens and just WOW! Thank you so much for putting this video out I'm so happy I came across it, no matter how long ago it was posted
I love the result and would also like to try it. I am relatively new to photography and would like to know how the setup was? How does one shot the grater and where is the blanket. I would appreciate your response. thanks.
Hi Diana. Thank you. You move in close to the grater with your macro lens. The angle and composition is strictly up to the photographer. You hold the blanket close to the grater but outside of the frame and voila, you start to get some color in the grater.
I'm fairly new to photography and recently entered a club challenge entitled "Detail". I chose to shoot a cheese grater and illuminated it from within with a head torch and a small UV light - no special photography lighting. Nor did I have a macro lens or photoshop software, just basic Windows 10. I spent hours on the set up. Watching this, (in 2020), makes me question why I bothered when folks can fake everything so easily...
You are so right Mauricio. Without going into details, I had a somewhat “bad history” with the blanket but have since grown to love it and I use it for lots of things. It’s really quite beautiful.
Oh I DO LOVE that idea! That blanket would work very well for oil and water light painting! Are you in photoshop with the google add on? Or just in google with the plug in "Pro 4" (I just got a big girl computer and trying to sort it all out)
Hey, glad you liked it. I'm still hanging on to Photoshop CS6 (I don't care for monthly subscription rates although I'll have to cave sooner than later) and I use the Nik Collection by google as a plug in. I like your notion of oil & water light painting.
I think you got the idea, a clear dish with that blanket underneath it..... I know....... since you hate that thing so much, when you're done w/ it I'll take it off your hands....lol Seriously! That thing would be PERFECT for that project! I know you're going to try that one next. Let us all know how it comes out. You will get a 2 for one with something you were going to throw out. Actually I have been looking for such a colorful object just like that to try that project myself, all kidding aside. I know you already did a tutorial on that topic, but that blanket made me think of that, not sure why. Maybe some of your creativity is rubbing off... I hope so
The blanket is great for this kind of thing but you can easily find other very effective colourful backgrounds as well...paper, clothing, magazine covers and various fabrics can be used. I'm sure there are a ton of other things too. Have fun with it and let me know how you make out.
thanks, I like your ideas, it motivates me to learn my camera more and better. Just today I was able to fix a shot (just of the garden) with something that I learned here. Haven't used the "a" mode since I started watching. But your ideas are inspiring for creativity and having fun with it. The only photoshop site I can find is a pay one, and I'm not so sure I would know what to do once I was there (lol) but I'll look for the basic one. I tried a couple others that weren't satisfactory or too complicated. Thanks again Ray.
Thank you for your special cheese grater and blanket explore photography.. Really fresh... Thanks..
Glad you like them!
You're just the new Bob Ross. Love it!!!
That, is a fantastic looking blanket.
All kidding aside, it is a BEAUTIFUL blanket.

The gentleman is so creative...wow.
Thank you so much and have a great weekend.

Glad to hear you had success Jess and I can see you really used your imagination to come up with your own effects. Nicely done. Be safe.

Thanks Geno. Much appreciated. I'm glad you watch to the end :)
You have some crazy ideas man! Love them! 👌
Thanks Mohammad. My brain is a little twisted at times. Have a good one and thank you for watching.
The more twisted the brain, the better the ideas I believe. Cheers

Where is the solarization filter ...
It's a serape from Mexico or Guatemala. I don't think it's ugly. :)
Hi Rrrose. I have to admit, I've really grown to love this blanket. The colors are quite beautiful. Go figure :)
that's not an ugly blanket, that's a "zarape", which is a mexican traditional blanket.

This man gets old he's gonna sound like Morgan Freeman. 😂 loved the video
