All three seasons of love is war has only adapted 14 volumes of manga. Which is basically only half of the entirety of the manga. There's still much content!
Fun fact: Chika was against keeping Ishigami's backstory a secret and wanted to clear his reputation with everyone, while Miyuki and Kaguya wanted to respect Ishigami's choice to keep it a secret. As an act of rebellion, Chika titled the note where they gathered all the info about Ishigami's truth as "Student Council Secret Report" in big, bold letters, and kept it right in the front on the shelf with the other student council documents, all completely unlocked in a way that it is basically inviting people to read it.
I really love that Aka included that detail. It makes their constant bullying of each other not seem as malicious, but more like siblings constantly squabbling and ribbing each other. They care, deep down. And things like these PROVE it.
And if you think that Kaguya didnt do anything to that scumbag, you would be... CORRECT! But only technically correct. She only gave THE Ishigami files to the people of shuujin you do not want to mess with. That scumbag is currently "happily working" in an "isolated" farm in another country.
It's also very good writing to have Ishigami actually lose the race in the end. Everyone can cheer for a winner, but seeing people still cheer for someone who lost hits differently.
Being a good son to Chika Good brother Good son to Papagane A friend to Hiyasaka a role model to the student body modest and self aware to a fault The list goes on
In the manga, Kaguya reveals she was indirectly responsible for Ogino's departure from Shuchi'in. She basically told everything she knew about the incident to the people who attend the club budget meetings (the same people told to us in season 1 that once got another guy transferred to another country for being rude), and those people probably threatened/pressured Ogino or something.
man, this series really leaves a lot out from the manga. they dont have to go into great depth about these things but its implied here that kaguya had nothing to do with it when questioned by hayasaka.
Many of the club presidents are VIPs as the children of highly influential people in Japan so the implication is that if you get on their wrong side they can mess your life up as a collective influence which is why Shirogane is afraid of them lol. Many of the influential families are quite protective of the school reputation so it seems like they will force any bad eggs to transfer out, the scary part is we don't know where he was transferred to lol. It's lucky for Shirogane he's well respected and has a good reputation as an overachiever that works hard lol. I'm not sure why they removed this detail in the anime and Hayasaka's reaction that shows how influential these kids are even to somebody like her. Maybe they wanted to have Kaguya seem more like a protective big sister who is looking out for him but we already got that impression without it made to seem she's also throwing her weight around as a Shinomiya.
It's actually very easy to misjudge Kyoko Otomo here. She neither knew the full story nor that her ex-boyfriend Ogino was a horrible person. Either way, it's beautiful seeing Ishigami finally letting go of his past and enjoying life again :)
I agree wholeheartedly. It would be easy to hate her but it never felt like she deserves it to me. From her POV, she saw the gloomy class loner whom she had been the only one to extend kindness maniacally beat up her boyfriend. She had never been given any real reason to suspect her boyfriend of being a douchebag - he was obvious great at keeping up a pristine facade. I feel like NONE of us would have drawn a different conclusion than Ishigami really being a stalker who'd became smitten with the only girl who ever noticed him, in her or any of their classmates' shoes. From her POV, he repaid her kindness by ruining her relationship and it is fully understandable she'd resent him for it.
It has to do with how the scene was made. Instead of Ishigami confronting the boyfriend, he confronted the girl, thus framing the girl as the bad guy in the story.
@Ubsty No, the whole point of the scene is that Ishigami left everything in the past, including her This whole time, he protected her smile, but in that scene, he decided to leave everything in the past
I like how everyone expects the cheerleading members to be mean (because that’s how popular people are typically portrayed). But instead, they end up being really nice. It doesn’t go the stereotypical route, and I think that’s great.
One of my favorite episodes in this show! So happy for Ishigami having the rest of our crew to support him. Funny how Otomo took the "Dumb***" literally as her being too dumb to get into the Shuchiin high school lol.
This episode helped solidify my absolute love for Love is War - the author did a great job of giving Ishigami character development instead of just leaving him as the "embittered okatu loner" type.
If you connect the dots, recall that Iino protested Ishigami's elongated suspension and attempts to prevent him from graduating when she was in middle school too because she saw it as too far and an injustice (even if she may have believed the rumors that he was guilty). One of the ways they both have had each other's back in their own approaches to "justice" without either knowing.
[Previous episode spoilers?] Yep, and I know they cut it out, but there was a short scene in this episode showing the meaning of the sutera flower, which Iino owns, “a little strength”, hinting her involvement in Ishigami’s past despite not being shown in the actual flashback at all. The sutera was also shown in episode 6 (the elections) but without any text, seemingly out of context at the time since that was its first appearance. The sutera was only explained more in episode 9 ("Yu Ishigami Closed His Eyes, Part 2"), and the observant ones can probably see where this going.
Season 3 is not the final season tho. After season 3 there is a movie , that's actually split in 4 episodes on streaming services. Then probably the manga has at least 2 more seasons of content.
Remember when ishigami first introduced to us, he ask shinomiya if she loves the president but shinomiya said she didn't and he said he's gonna tell the president. At that moment ishigami didn't want the president to misunderstood shinomiya's kindness ❤❤❤❤❤ Foreshadowing by the way 🥲🥲😊
Yup, he's protecting his friend from being "strung along" by Kaguya. I like how he can't see that his dumb friend is just as hopeless as she is. He's just too loyal of a bro for that.
Was thinking about he Eyes-thing. The ability to tell what kind of people are through their eyes was brought up by Ishigami in this first episode when he was talking to president about Kaguya's intent to kill him. Maybe him not seeing peoples eyes from his perspective when he was "shutting down" was some kind of defense. He didn't want to know what people really thought about him. just a theory (albeit badly explained on my part) .
That or it's symbolic of him not trusting what's right in front of him. He can tell what kind of people they are through their eyes, so by not letting himself see their eyes he's basically not letting himself see people for who they are because he's afraid of being wrong again for trusting his impression of others
Indeed as you say in the post-discussion, Ishigami and Miko Ino are similar in their core morality (good but humble/subtle about it) but polar opposites otherwise in demeanor; Ino being fully rule-focused , and Ishigami having at least a hint of the rule-exploiting gamer-mentality (as shown in previous episode, where he tried to argue that he could play on his console in school grounds cause he was under the student-body building which is technically not owned by the school...) Great episode!

Ishigami coming out of the dark place his mind was just in and looking up to finally see the cheer squad's eyes and by extension the kind people they really are ALWAYS gets me. It's just such good symbolism and great emotional payoff
When an anime or a show starts with a serious issue it's like going down on the graph from a straight line with respect to how serious it gets and it definitely feels sad but when a slice of life cheerful anime talks about such a serious issue it just hits different because the graph is like sky high and drops like a bomb completely beneath. It's so brave that Ishigami stood his ground and didn't apologize
Btw, they dont say this in the anime, but Shinomiya definitely had everything to do with Ogino’s leaving lol Basically, she told him “If you dont get tf up out my school, ill use your entire existence like a fucking fleshlight”💀
Something of note that they left out of the manga to give more to only implication in the anime is that Yu's father beat him over this and constantly yelled at him over it. The poor guy. Maybe because I relate to Ishigami so much, especially in the "do what you think is right, but get punished for it" situations, (though nothing on that level), I burst into tears when I saw this animated even though I knew what was coming as a manga reader. Just like Ishigami, there was no way I could've gotten through my darkest time without the friends I finally made at a critical point.
"She's a dumbass." "She was blissfully ignorant." Pick one. 🤣 She literally had no idea what happened. Nobody told her. As far as she (still) knows, Ishigami *was* a stalker and just assaulted her boyfriend out of jealousy, destroying her relationship. Of course she hates him.
This is definitely my favorite episode. I was shocked how good the backstory was, and it definitely had me going through a few emotions, but when all the cheerleaders got their eyes, that's what hit me hardest personally. Phenomenal episode, and what seriously got me invested in this show. I already liked it, but this episode cemented it at the top.

I never thought this show gonna makes me cry so hard😭😭from the moment where shirogane walk in to Ishigami until the end of the episode i can't stop crying 😭😭
I don't know if they caught this, but this is how Shirogane and Ishigami met. He overheard rumors about Ishigami, who was still in the same school as Kei, and is going to be held back for not writing the apology. He had the student council investigate the incident, figured it all out, and then pulled strings to get him to graduate and come to the high school, then invited him to the student council. What a fucking Chad and a Bro. From Ishigami's perspective, the stuco prez of the high school he's not even in yet showed up to his home and pulled him out of his darkest moment that he had been stuck in for a month. He's a goddamn hero.
Yes I agree with you. Shirogane is a Goat! However there's two small things here. Apparently Miko was the one who protested his expulsion and stood her ground in order to let him graduate. You can see it in a couple episodes back when the glasses friend is noting how similar both of them are. Also Chika got so upset that she wrote a document explaining everything and wanted to show everyone that Ishigami was innocent. However Kaguya and Miyuki stopped her from doing so because it would mean Ishigami's sacrifice would go in vain. So she put it up in one of the shelves so people can come and read it uninvited without her making it obvious. Also Kaguya had some hand in this as it's suspected that she was the one who forced his family to move to a remote area. So yeah, All the Student Council cares for each other and have each other's back. It's too cute!!
@peachgroove You're correct that every student council member contributed to the Ishigami situation. It was Iino's defense of him that Shirgane overheard. I don't think he was facing expulsion yet. It seemed like he was going to be kept from graduating with his class. Her defense of him is what cause the Stuco to investigate. I highlighted Shigane's involvement as the leader and the one to actually approach Ishigami. He was the one most directly involved. He directed his people to investigate and pull strings, though Kaguya definitely went too far, and I doubt he approved her getting his family transferred. When the investigation was done, he was the one to actually go to Ishigami and pull him out of his depression. The others play down or don't mention their own actions quite as much. Iino and Ishigami have a habit of looking out for each other without telling the other that they did so out of selflessness. Shirogane knew that sometimes you needed to be the big damn hero and the clear and visible leader figure to really help the people that need it. They all filled their roles perfectly, I just credit him the most due to his initiative and direct effect it had on Ishigami.
@@neisan92 honestly, I did NOT expect you to reply. Wasn't this like a year ago? But well, you're a good person 😊. Yeah I understand why you said that. Miyuki definitely has the major role in Ishigami's backstory, I just wanted to point out how other members also cared for him
@@Lynettefan49 Hey when youtube sends me a notification I'm not really worried about how old the OP was 🤣. Anyway, Kaguya is one of my favorite manga and anime so I'm always down to chat. For sure they did contribute to the results, I just want to point out how Miyuki was the face and leader of the group and why that caused their friendship to be very strong. When Ishigami was faltering at the sports festival It was Miyuki that saw it and stepped in. It's one of my favorite moments of the series.
A bit I want to point out, which might contain one tiny spoiler here, don't really remember if this is info season 3 reveals or just something missing from the manga at this part of the story but... Iino was fightning for Ishigami since she thought it was unfair how he was being treated specially after the suspension time was over and he wasn't allowed back and staff was thinking of holding him back a year because he still hasn't written the apology letter. She argued with them since he delivered his homework every week and about the apology letter she just told them he was an idiot that can't write an essay. Shirogane wasn't the only one that did work regarding the Ishigami issue. The student council together went to look into this incident. Kaguya was the one to bring this up with them since it got her attention that the boy was able to graduate and haven't still written the apology letter. She thought there was more to this story. Chika was the one to look into it with her connections and gather the intel, which we can notice by the girly hand writing and flower mark on the report. After that the student council made their conclusions and that's probably when Shirogane went to talk with Ishigami. When Hayasaka asked Kaguya if she had anything to do with Ogino leaving school she said she didn't but also mentions that others might have since she mentioned what happened to the VIP people on Shuchiin which was probably what pressure the guy to leave, specially since one of these people I believe is related/involved with the yakuza. Kashiwagi, the girl with the kabedon boyfriend, is one of these VIPs btw. I'm not saying Shirogane isn't the GOAT because clearly he is and an amazing friend, but others helped a lot too. Specially when you think that Chika also knew about this, it makes you look into her interactions with Ishigami on the student council a bit differently. One last thing is that Ishigami was away from school a long time, Autumn and winter passed with him not able to write the letter. And when spring came he was surprised that he was allowed to go into high school. A bit after that was when Shirogane talked with him and he returned to attend school and joined the student council.
This episode was where I realised how fans of the series had a go at me for saying that Shirogane is best boy, what Ishigami went through was a nightmare
Lol I think you owe cheerleader captain guy an apology, for thinking he was an asshole 😉 (it is a nice subversion of our expectations to see how supportive he is of Ishigami, like the rest of team)
This also helps explain why Kaguya has a soft spot for Ishigami, she ignores what the other students say about him, and will even bully Ishigami to study for his own sake.
One thing that is clearly implied to a Japanese audience but might go over a western audiences head: Ogino was setting up a group (sex) party and that’s what he invited Ishigami to participate in
Miko and Ishigami are similar in the sense that they are both very particular about the things they value - it's just that Miko values orderliness and proprietry, whereas Ishigami has a much looser concept of justice. And of course one way or the other they both run into issues because of it. And of course they're both somewhat socially awkward, although it manifests quite differently: Ishigami being very outwardly awkward, like you can pretty much tell from the way he dresses, moves and generally carries on - and he's very self-aware about how and why he doesn't fit in to the point he's intentionally making it a part of his identity, whereas with Miko you'd actually have to talk with her to notice - or at least pay enough attention to catch on to the fact she doesn't have a lot of friends, and I don't think she completely gets why she doesn't fit in.
There's a bit of a mistranslated with Ishigami's big line. It should be written as some variation of "Shut up, stupid" since the whole point of his comment is that Otomo isn't worth getting worked up over anymore. It's also a reference to what he said back when he was giving Shirogane advice back in season 1. It's revealed in a bonus chapter that Otomo was actually having difficulty staying mad at him given that it's been close to a year at this point (and she thought that he looked cute in a dress), but she started venting anyway because she was jealous at seeing him have fun with Tsubame.
Hope you guys will watch oshi no ko too after this , it's another great anime written by the same author as kaguya sama and i dare say is even better than this

Ishigami is the GOAT not gonna lie❤
That eye hiding idea is taken from koe no katachi. Amazing movie.
ISHIGOOD¡¡ ❤
This episode tore my heart when I watched it for the first time
But you know this part doesn’t end here. There is a last showdown remaining in Ishigami's past.
A bit after that was when Shirogane talked with him and he returned to attend school and joined the student council.
this is spoiler as this comes up later in manga again
2:07 oh! you guys haven't seen silent voice right??
This episode was where I realised how fans of the series had a go at me for saying that Shirogane is best boy, what Ishigami went through was a nightmare
Letsgoooo!! One of my favourite episodes of the show is here! Ishigami absolutely deserved this good of a backstory.
Great reactions. I like hearing your view of Ishigami's character and backstory. You have interesting predictions about future plot developments.
This episode reminds you that this takes place in the same world as Oshi no ko
Lol I think you owe cheerleader captain guy an apology, for thinking he was an asshole 😉
(it is a nice subversion of our expectations to see how supportive he is of Ishigami, like the rest of team)
When i was watching this ep, i just realized that's why this anime stands out from other Rom-coms.
❤
Why u hating on the cheerleader group’s head man He’s a good guy😭
You gotta love MiyuKING ShiroGOAT ❤
This is one of my favorite episodes
Ishigami best boi. Nobody will ever take the title from him.
This episode really mafe ishigami one of my favorites, i reqlly needed that backstory for him and it was nailed pit of the park!
Ngl the gojo edit caught me off guard hahahaha 😂😂😂
*Cheerleading Captain trips*
Ange: He's a d**khead👹
finally my boi ishigami
Ishigami is best boi and Shirogane is a beacon of hope.
Ishigamis "If you've done nothing wrong you shouldn't apologize" last season hits a bit different after this episode...
BEHOLD, Peak character development 🗿
This also helps explain why Kaguya has a soft spot for Ishigami, she ignores what the other students say about him, and will even bully Ishigami to study for his own sake.
Chad-ogane and Ishigami the GOAT
And this episode shows why everybody calls Ishigami "Ishigod"
Don't worry, I've heard that the proper Ishigami arc will be on season 4 when it will be announced.
I am still not sure if I'm looking forward to it, or dreading the day it arrives. The arc where Iino broke her arm had quite an impact on me.
8:47 wait what's gojo doing there? 💀
You guys aren't ready for Ishigami next arc in Season 4 next year...dude got girls fighting over him
"I'm your default wifu"
WHAT THE HELL IS GOJO DOING AT 8:47
I wish I have someone like Shirogane to boost my confidence when I was at my lowest 😔
One thing that is clearly implied to a Japanese audience but might go over a western audiences head: Ogino was setting up a group (sex) party and that’s what he invited Ishigami to participate in
Luckily it's not necessary to know that to realize the level of scumbaggery Ogino was taking part in.
Still, yet more reason to hate that guy.
Miko and Ishigami are similar in the sense that they are both very particular about the things they value - it's just that Miko values orderliness and proprietry, whereas Ishigami has a much looser concept of justice. And of course one way or the other they both run into issues because of it. And of course they're both somewhat socially awkward, although it manifests quite differently: Ishigami being very outwardly awkward, like you can pretty much tell from the way he dresses, moves and generally carries on - and he's very self-aware about how and why he doesn't fit in to the point he's intentionally making it a part of his identity, whereas with Miko you'd actually have to talk with her to notice - or at least pay enough attention to catch on to the fact she doesn't have a lot of friends, and I don't think she completely gets why she doesn't fit in.
i love this episode so much
Shirogane is a true friend.
My favorite episode as well ange, there’s a couple close ones in season 3 though!
THE BEST BOY!!!!!!!!
This is the best story arc in the series and the payoff is really great after the build from season 1 on Ishigami's background and why he's unpopular.
Please watch "March comes in like a lion" I am absolutely sure you two would love the show!
Otomo Kyoto is certified For the streets
Now I’m waiting for 3x2 😅
Ishigami best character fr
YOUR CAT IS SO COOL
ishi - GODDDD
There's a bit of a mistranslated with Ishigami's big line. It should be written as some variation of "Shut up, stupid" since the whole point of his comment is that Otomo isn't worth getting worked up over anymore. It's also a reference to what he said back when he was giving Shirogane advice back in season 1.
It's revealed in a bonus chapter that Otomo was actually having difficulty staying mad at him given that it's been close to a year at this point (and she thought that he looked cute in a dress), but she started venting anyway because she was jealous at seeing him have fun with Tsubame.
Still my favorite episode☝☝
You should have read the subtitels
Myuki didn't work it out on himself Kaguya and chika helped to.
ISHIGAMI BEST GIRL
Does Otomo eventually find out later on?
do you really want to know or you just asking for askings sake
That is one good looking kitty
That Gojo edit hahahaha
@alpha TV I got through this reaction yay!!
Bro 😭😭😭😭
I finally found you, my comment is highlights 😁😁, by the way this episode is such a pain🥲🥲
Bro the fact that Ogino and Otomo doing that kind of thing is like🫤🫤🫤 like how old they are in that time? Where's there parents 🤨🤨🤨
@@allancatibud4164 My guess would be 14-15 since they were 3rd years in middle school.
@@freakcan yeah that's what I'm talking about 😭😭
Ishigami is the best character.
I love you guys
❤️
Hope you guys will watch oshi no ko too after this , it's another great anime written by the same author as kaguya sama and i dare say is even better than this
