Honestly, I don't blame you guys. I didn't know that the OVA existed and when I stumbled on it randomly, I thought it was some very high quality adult video. I like the meta stuff in it, but no.
If you guys love slice of life please watch these deeper dramas, my favs, they are real tear jerkers 😭 Your lie in April - Kousei has the same voice actor for Tanjiro/Falco, he’s amazing 🤩. This watch is cute it’s not so much of a comedic twist on teenage romance but a very sincere one, still it has comedic relief which is very much needed because you will run out of tissues. Silent voice(movie) - The Soundtrack in this movie is absolutely amazing, and the movie itself beyond that. You’ll really ‘grow’ with all of the characters in a way, it’s just ‘speechlessly’ insightful on each character :)
The funny thing is that the fanservice is really peculiar. Basically, Aka Akasaka, the author of the manga the anime was based on, got complaints from some of the weird otaku´s that there was way too little fanservice, so he crammed one single chapter full of fanservice parodies, has Ishigami react on them in said chapter, and said ´There, here´s that fanservice you ordered´, and with that the matter was closed and future chapters did not include fanservice. Of course that does mean that said chapter is, in fact, not suitable for UA-cam, but basically, it suffered, so the rest of the show wouldn´t. For that, I am grateful.
can anyone educate me about the movie? I don't understand the reference in the intro and I never watched any kaguya movies, so now I don't know if I should watch them or not. I also do not want to go to jail
I'll be honest- as much as I love the show, and I LOVE the show, that OVA was way too much, even if it was supposed to be sarcastic commentary on anime tropes. It felt very off compared to the regular series episodes' humor and direction, and I don't think you're missing out on anything by skipping them.
The OVA is great if you are used to anime bs, but for most people it will be wayy too overt. But I feel like it serves the anime well by existing, as it allowed Akasaka to deal with the requests for fanservice in a way that didn't compromise the series.
While things like anime, comics and other aspects of geek culture are super mainstream in many Western countries it's really not particularly mainstream in Japan and most people don't follow it so much outside of being little kids and watching anime or stuff that does break into mainstream like Ghibli and Disney movies. It's seen as a bit cringey to be into that stuff outside of a subculture itself so that's why they were squirming so much about admitting to being otaku.
