This is genuinely one of Paul Giamatti's best roles. I believe I'm looking at John Adams here; every idiosyncrasy of the historic man is present in this role.
Adams had his faults, I won't argue that for a moment. However, he also had a far bigger pair than the politicians of today. When he spoke, there was no need to ask what he meant. For the last 50 years, all we have seen is Chicken-Hawks and Man-gina's. John Adams may have been an ass but he was America's ass when we needed one!
He was a remarkable man. He had a vision. He had a short temper, easily angered, stubborn. I believe he was also a warm hearted man. As short tempered as he was it would hurt his feelings greatly when his reputation was tarnished. He was in my opinion one the best presidents weve ever had. He has accomplished much but got little credit.
I respect him most for trying to achieve a peace with France, even though he knew it would cost him the election. Can anyone imagine any modern day politician doing anything of the sort?
What really endured me to this series was their proper use of the english language. Even in rage the point comes across much better. A Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer (one of many of my great mentors over 30 years service) once told me "if you swear with profane words all the time people will think you are ignorant and will stop listening to you".........
I absolutely love Paul Giamatti portrayal of John Adams he brings a temper and yet a smooth Characteristic to the character, and Paul is the master of over-actors who I just LOVE to hear screaming and yelling.
@blackdragon767 George Washington did not exclude him from the inner circle. Adams was excluded due to his position as Washington's Vice President. VPs have a very specific job. Adams was a brilliant President -- our best ever, imho. He kept us out of a war which, had he entered it, would have gained him reelection. He saved lives AND our nation by now entering into that conflict. Jefferson was only successful BECAUSE of what Adams did!
I belive every agency in our intelligence and military, and judicial, and legislative branches are going to encircle this Administration quicker than the Soviets did the Germans in Stalingrad.
Not really. The low average lifespan was because of child mortality. Once people lived till about 16, they were most likely to die around 60-something.
@@jancyraniak That might be true, but it depends on the person and the family and its genetics. Children who died were most likely to be under the age of 5.
@@sqseq1237 Certainly, but I'm talking about populational averages. The mortality of children under 5 like you said was so big, that if the average was 35, or 45, or 55, then it must mean that there were a lot of people reaching advanced age. Usually aristocrats were among them, as they had better food, shelter and hygiene. For example check out medieval kings, they usually lived long.
Damn this was the best hbo produced and most likely ever will. If somebody ever invents a time machine i hope they take a copy of this, and play somehow for the man himself, to see what he would say about the film. Probly would say still no heir rubens in the future?
@Justgetout He IS the only Founding Father who didn't own slaves. He was thought of as "obnoxious" partly because he loudly proclaimed his opposition to slavery.
Even though he was a good person and very smart his VP and presidential term wasn't good honestly I mean when he was VP he would just sit and read newspaper and when he became President he dealt with wars and unfair Acts ( my opinion ) but he was a good lawyer and person some people just can't be in power
just out of the blue? i dont know you but if u get into an argument with someone about something like sports i think it would be great. Lebron is great... GENERAL WASHINGTONS ARMY NEEDS ARMS AND MEN
The VP at that time didn't really have any real duties... they couldn't even sit in on cabinet meetings until Warren G Harding. They were just the person who could break the tie of the Senate's vote, and would replace the President if they died. And although Adams originally agreed with Hamilton in terms of wanting a more powerful and centralized government, Hamilton was more extreme . Same with James Madison... once they realized what Hamilton really wanted, they divorced themselves from him.
@abnoceans12 he was an egotistical prick but he was our egotistical prick. The man had altruistic and noble intentions but was chalk full of pride on his most down day.

"You question my loyalty, sir?" "Oh no, Mr. Hamilton, I question your sanity!" (No pause to reply. Funny. :-D)
"John Adams is pissed" would probably be a pretty good one-sentence summary of his life, actually
Really tho'; whenever was he *not* pissed?
Timberhawk Whenever Abigail send him letters overseas.
Well he was passionate about his country dude !!!!
Kinda makes you wonder how he lived to nearly 91 with all the yelling he did. He has my respect though, especially after watching this series
@@marajadeskywalker5992 Too angry to die.

He was a man who knew what he wanted and what was best. What pissed him off the most was people couldn't see what he saw
Adams was a very frustrated man. I can totally relate.
Same here
John Adams is my spirit animal.
“HERE IS SOMEONE CALLING FOR ME TO BE HANGED!”
🤣😂🤣
"Now either you are stark raving mad OR I AM!!!!!!!"
I think I can answer that.
without him, our country would have never existed ;)

John was known for being a hothead and having a temper.
I always loved Paul giamati when he goes over the top.
Paul Giamatti, lord of the over-actors, masticator of scenery, Shakepeare's town crier
He proves this in 'Ironclad'.
Doug Wiseman But the only one to show the personality of John Adams.
"I have no stomach for carrots." - John Adams, 17-something-something
3:09 Yes, Mr. Wonka.
Great series. Need more like it.
Now I see why John Adams was called obnoxious and disliked. 😀
I was looking for where he disowned his son parenthesis plural…
Finally a founding father I can relate to.

When John Adams confronts Sam Adams at the end of the tar and feather scene, John was also very pissed.

Being pissed was the whole miniseries...
That was a very complicated matter that went far beyond Adams.

1:44 when you ask Mr Adams what he thinks about the current situation with the political parties
However, he did make mistakes a plenty as well. The Alien and Sedition Act being one of them, that he would regret in his later years.
Good Day Sir! I SAID GOOD DAY! ><
