I'm so excited that I finally caught the Wheeling and Lake Erie yesterday! Unfortunately that's probably going to be my only catch on this trip so all I can do now is sit back and watch your videos.
The route they're on must have some harsh weight restrictions because those cars don't appear to be loaded beyond about half. I remember having one bridge with a 240k restriction on it, we had to put a boxcar between the locomotives. It was a terror to our customers and then one rainy night the West approach washed away! Once they rebuilt the bridge it was 300 ft longer and could handle 286k cars and heavy locos, no problem.
Good looking units on some fairly long Rock trains and while many of the cars came from CSX or other leasing firms I got a kick out of the old Rio Grande cars as they are falling by the wayside quickly. Also were one or two of those cars possibly X Bessemer and built for the Rock Island as it looked like robin's egg blue? I don't remember whose cars they were but I do recall on the inside walls of their hoppers were painted lines indicating the load height for sand crushed rock and limestone. Glad to see the WE footage

Good that you got one! If you make it back, spend a day at Brewster, Spencer or Akron. You’ll get several.
Excellent as always.
Thank you

Hi Scott! Great railfaning video of the W&LE around Ashtabula.
Nothing finer on this planet than having a 1 to 1 scale model of a freight train huh??

The word taipale is Finnish, it meas a journey on foot between tvo lakes. There is also a surname.

Thank you! I have not heard that it means that, interesting. My grandfather made sure I knew I was of Finnish decent though!

What are those funky red gondola-ish cars at 7:12? I've never seen anything like those before.
Difco side dump cars. Used for dumping rip rap along the ROW
