Photography Tips: Sunset Disappointment 2 - retouching the RAW
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 жов 2024
- Sunset photography can be disappointing when you go somewhere special - and then it's kinda dull. Can a disappointing sunset be rescued in Lightroom?
In part 1 we did the shoot and here we're going to develop a RAW file from that shoot to see what can be made of it. And another shot when conditions were perfect to compare...

I really do love your easy, friendly style. I always shoot RAW (Nikon) after being scared of it for ages. As you say, it's amazing what you can find in those RAW files. You can make your pictures show what you saw, rather than what the camera (jpeg) thinks you wanted to see. Another top notch video, Mike. Thanks.
Exactly right Tom Lee, your right on the button! Thanks for the kind words too - CHRISTINA
I really enjoy all your excellent tutorials and have learned a lot from them they are so easy to follow and well explained thanks.
Hi Mike. Im slowly learning the ropes of photography and your tutorials are my immediate go to location for everything. Your videos are by far the best on you tube, and i find your easy going, calm, step by step reasoning behind every move you make a revelation. Thanks for sharing your skills with us.
Rapsy glad you are learning from us, also you can try to see a sample of one our courses here www.photographycourses.biz/courses/ubc-free-sample - Melissa pp Mike
Just started watching ur channel about 2 weeks ago...... just picked up a Canon 50D and the help in ur videos is just amazing. The DOF video was a huge help. Will be watching for future videos. Massive thank you for all ur explanations.

G'day Mike,
I want to thank you very much for this Part 2 video. I have been using PS and LR for years thinking I knew enough to get by buy I was very wrong. You have taught me different ways to use tools, your way being much simpler and more precise results than how I did things. A huge wake up call for me. Many many thanks mate.
Thanks Angelo Cincotta, check out our Photoshop and Lightroom courses on our website. They could help you progress with editing and processing your images - CHRISTINA :-)

Tip-Top Mike, very good tutorial especially showing tidbits of Lightroom which is very helpful. As always you go beyond the first step and take us through your eyes and views of what is good and not good. Great!!!
Thanks so much Joe Cascio, please share any videos you find particularly helpful, it helps us make more - CHRISTINA :-)
Excellent Mike , A really useful video using LR and the lovely affects you can get in post production super Mike
Its great to see how a photo can grow into something you would be proud to display on your wall, Light Room is essential to get the best out of a photo.
To be honest you made it look easy but also easy to follow, excellent work Mike, five stars from me.
thank you! Melissa pp Mike
Thanks honda750k6, I completely agree! I love seeing my photographs up on the wall - CHRISTINA :-)
You sir, have inspired me! Thank you, for sharing your creativity, passion, and skills!
Great job! I have been watching your videos for years. I have always learned something from them.
Thank you Charles Watts - MIKE
Thanks Mike. Your videos are like nuggets of pure gold. Thanks for posting. :)
aww.. thank you! much appreciation!- Melissa pp Mike
Another great, informative video. Just at the right time for me - I have some sunset shots to try and rescue! Thanks Mike
Thanks Nick Smith, brilliant! - CHRISTINA
Yes, awesome video. I've learned so much by watching your videos and will be getting your courses. By far the best mentor/teacher I've run across in teaching photography.
Thanks Suitcase Junkies.. look forward to seeing you enrolled soon ... MIKE🙏😊
You are the best teacher on youtube, Mike! . Thank you !!!
Thanks Yashwanth Mayasandra, we always love to hear feedback from you guys - CHRISTINA :-)
Thanks Mike. Really interesting to see you using the Lightroom tools. I have worked through LR tutorials, but they tend to be over-complex by trying to explain every possible tool and setting, until confusion sets in, rather than concentrating on ‘maximum desired response for minimum effort’.
Thanks josephxx
I'm working on the 2nd of my Lightroom courses right now. 7 Steps to perfect pictures is a 7 week step by step guide to the tools I use, what they do and creative ways to use them. If you're interested please leave your details at the link below and I'll let you know when it's complete sometime around September. - MIKE

Very nice tutorial! Love your composition and lightroom work!
thank you, you may check our lightroom course here www.photographycourses.biz/courses/7stpp-sample - Melissa pp Mike
Awesome tutorial, thanks for sharing. I learned a few more nifty tricks... like 'shift' with brush for a straight line, very useful. And mostly thanks for for keeping it real. Hopefully this new trend for overly processed, crank up the clarity HDR crap is gonna die sooner than later!
Mike Browne, you are the best brother !
Thanks Kevin - MIKE :-)
Great video once again:) I did not know about the grad filters. I think I had been over cooking the clarity/saturation previously, but now I can see how there are more finer controls.
Hi Mike, Yes I was there with you, It was one of the best days I have ever had in Photography. I would say to any one that likes Mike teachings a training day with him is just super cool, he speaks to you not over you or be little's you. Every thing is kept simple but informative.
I took the say photos but mine had a bird in the sun I was even more luckier lol. I wish I had seen this video before i did my editing. Going to go back over my photos now and put in some of the ideas you came out with. Thanks for a great day and for keeping things simple for use

Fantastic video Mike, I'm just beginning with LR so this was excellent. Thank you.
Thank and brilliant news azie, hope your lovin the LR course - CHRISTINA :-)
Very helpful. I use a "humble" bridge camera Panasonic Lumix FZ200. Shooting Raw and often in manual mode. Your uTubes have taught me much. Thank you.
Thank you Robert - Melissa pp Mike
When you removed the dust spot, I was like "Wait, you also have to remove it from the reflection". Then I realized my own stupidity :D
Awesome video Mike. It does bring home one of your fundamental tips for planning your shot. Ideally this is one of the reasons we often MUST visit a location more than once to capture the image we're looking to create. Additionally we must always explore different point of views while looking through our viewfinders or LCD. Going lower or even higher, left or right, forward or backward can have a dramatic effect on a particular scene. That being said, Mike, you neve fail to disappoint with your lessons how we can become better photographers. Truly you're an iconic photographer and my mentor.
Cheers Mate,Craig Scott
thank you for the kind words craig! - Melissa pp Mike
Thanks so much kreygscott and your right on the money!! - CHRISTINA :-)

Thanks Mike, I love Sunsets, but like you said it can sometimes be very disappointing, which is often the situation with me, but think after watching this video hopefully that will change,
Thanks Mike, its interesting to see and hear what you think about Raw and Jpg
Thanks yndsay Bin - CHRISTINA
Thanks a lot for this and all your great videos on photography. I consider you as my teacher as i learned lot from you.
Thanks Abdul Basit - CHRISTINA
Very nice video, very helpful to see you go step by step through the process.
I can understand people who don’t want to do post-processing, to a degree. I enjoy shooting much more than editing.
However, I find that often even a 10 seconds edit can change an image considerably, just by making very basic adjusting in crop, rotation, exposure, contrast, saturation… that’s not even touching the curves tool, or more the selective advanced tools
By no means to you have to do that for all pictures, just for the ones that you want to print, or otherwise use.
The basic settings you can copy from one images to all other images shot under similar conditions.
I think if people want to produce the best possible images, they will go into editing at one time.
About the entire raw vs jpg discussion, I think this sunset image is a good example where raw really makes a difference. I find that in less extreme light conditions, for example some portraits in soft light, skin tones of jpg’s out of the camera often look better. In many cases, when the light is good, you can simply use the jpg without editing.
So I shoot raw and jpg, and do some simple tweaks on the jpg, if I like the end result. If I have to do more editing, generally I will do that on the raw file.
Some people seem to make “only raw” something like a mantra. And that’s not my cup of tea.
Different folks and different strokes :)- what matters is we are happy with our photography, whether we love RAWS or Jpegs - Melissa PP Mike
Thanks for the reply, Melissa. When will we see you in a video again?
Thanks a million for inspiring time at Akranes yesterday, loved your talk👍🏻
Thanks Rakso Custom Build, so pleased you enjoyed the talk maybe next time I'll be there too - CHRISTINA
Good interesting series Mike - Thanks for uploading..
Just few vids, and I've learned so much from Mike, Really great job! Really

Thank you mike☺ that one was really helpful. Cant wait to see your next video. All the best 👍👍
thank you ! prany desai - Melissa pp Mike
I've watched quite a lot of videos like this one and don't get me wrong they were good. But yours is the best. Great info and I loved how you showed us all the steps. The second shot is indeed really stunning. Thank you. Liked and Subscribed of course.
Another great video - thanks Mike.
Part one was fantastic and two was even better and as always enjoyable and educational.
Thumbs up is not enough watch this video and enjoy.
hi Doug thank you for the kind words! -Melissa pp Mike :)
Thanks Brad Weeks, please share any video's you find particularly helpful, it helps us make more - CHRISTINA :-)
Great video! With a lot of tips using lightroom. Thanks Mike, coming a big fan of your work.
Greetings from Belgium :-)
Thanks Frank Amez, greetings from UK - CHRISTINA :-)
A little Hint Mike, if you hit Shift + Y and / or just Y it will show before and after shift cycles through different before and after and Y works as ON / OFF type of a thing
Thanks DniceVids
- there are soooo many ways to reach 'Rome' - MIKE :-)
Another Brilliant little video thanks Mike. Actually when you took that image with the puddle at the foreground. A few steps over to the left may also have made an interesting shot allowing some sun reflection on the extreme right hand side of the puddle. But still some beautiful end result. Thanks for this. john
Thanks airofan, brilliant idea, trying all different angles is a great idea - CHRISTINA :-)
*Thanks Mike :) I appreciate these video-tutorials :)*
Thanks Leari Tee, please share any video's you find particularly helpful - CHRISTINA :-)
Very useful Lightroom technique, thanks. While using Lightroom I'm always asking myself as I work with it, "Is this beautiful to me?" Of course if someone is doing commercial work or otherwise trying to appeal to a certain audience, then you can't be so self-indulgent.
Absolutely awesome! Thanks! (More of that sort, please - this was an eye opener to me)
Thanks Lau Bjerno, really pleased you found this video so helpful - CHRISTINA
Great video Mike,very helpful!!!
I love all of your videos.. you are kind enough to give so much of your experience, in such a well presented way - applicable to people of all levels..
For this video, you show Lightroom.. while this software is a little expensive for some (and I don't agree with wannabe piracy), I personally use darktable for editing raw..
while it does not have a lot of the tools that Lightroom, there are often work-arounds that do the same/similar thing.
Well done for yet another great video..
Great informative video Mike thanks
I think when it comes to processing your own images, it's good to play around a bit, test things and probably most important to ask yourself questions and answer them. there are a lot of buttons when it comes to lightroom and RAW. But personally I can't wait till I start processing my own images.
Brilliant Malachi Viloria, it's very exciting processing your own images and having that control. If you need anymore help with this head to our website and search in over 270+ videos - CHRISTINA
www.photographycourses.biz/videos
Awesome! I'll check it out some time.
you are so amazing.. .explaining everything in detail... and in a simple way... Appreciated... if you can upload a video regarding Noise reduction.... Thanks for your lessons...!!
Thanks Aashish Sharma - CHRISTINA
that was the best lightroom tutorial i have ever seen ,
Thanks Tony. I'm putting together a new Lightroom course this summer about RAW developing. It's the next step from my 7 Steps To Workflow Mastery course.. MIKE
www.photographycourses.biz/courses/lightroom-workflow
Great video, Mike; and very apropos to where I am with my own processing. Thank you, sir.
As Luca commented, Mike; how would you deal with the lens flare in the trees? Just desaturate it with a brush, or more than that?
By the way love your vids and all of the FREE info Thank You
i tend to pull the dehaze all the way up and then use it to look for dirt on my sensor, it works really good, after i've removed the spots i just bring down the dehaze again to where i like it.
Thank you so much for sharing your insight!
You sir, are the Bob Ross of photography. And I mean that as a compliment... not sure if you can even take that as an insult actually...
loved it I am a sunset person and appreciate all the tips
Thanks Mark Weinrib - CHRISTINA
Hi Mike, Thanks for yet another informative and helpful video. I was interested to see how "flat" your unprocessed Raw file appeared. The work in Lightoom really did transfrom the image. I find that Raw files out of my Panasonic Lumix G6, already looked processed and closer to a Jpeg. My Lighroom work is only a fine tuning and not a transformation. Do you think something may be wrong? I am now thinking that I may not be getting full value out of my Raw images. Thanks, Roger
Hi Mike, at about 19:30 you're fiddling with highlighting the trees. Try Automask next time, I've used it for ages and it works wonders for most cases, it basically detects where to stop the highlight (where the end of the trees is) and halo won't be an issue. :)
Good day Mike.
Another brilliant and easy-to-follow tutorial.
I have LR6 (which doesn't have the debase functionality: i couldn't justify subscribing to LR CC).
I am eagerly looking forward to your release of "7 Steps to Workflow Mastery".
I am sure there is so much to learn. I have been disciplining myself to follow a rigid workflow of selecting my pictures (pick, stars, etc.) before post processing, because that will save a tremendous amount of time.
Do you have a planned date for the release of 7 Steps please?
Thank you imeFulO 49ersClub 7 Steps to Workflow Mastery was released last year and is available at www.photographycourses.biz/courses/lightroom-workflow - I think maybe you meant 7 Steps to Perfect Pictures which is about developing in Lightroom. That should be available around November this year. If you'd like to be notified when it's available, please visit www.photographycourses.biz/7stpp and leave me your email address. - Best wishes MIKE
Thanks Mike. That indeed was the one i was referring to. I will do.
Thanks Mike - a very helpful video. I agree that post-prod of RAW files yields better results. Lightroom is great, but I am aware some people out there may not have it. For them they might achieve similar results in the free downloadable program Rawtherapee or in Cyberlink PhotoDirector's Adjustment module which is essentially a Lightroom clone. UA-cam has numerous tutorials on both.
Some brilliant advice and recommendations, thanks Wayne Britton - CHRISTINA
Hi mike, I've just taken up photography and your videos are very informative, but I just can't get my head around all the different settings! Yet. Mac McLellan.
Thank you Mac. Photography isn't about memorising settings. You have to practice using them so you know what they do. Then the photo you want to take tells you what settings you need. I recommend my Beginners Course (link below) if you're struggling with this because I can guide you through the things you need to get going. Once you have your head around them, you can build on them and take it to the next level... MIKE
www.photographycourses.biz/courses/ultimate-beginners-photography-course
Thank you Mike, appreciate that.
Hi Mac i started about 3 years ago looking and learning from Mikes Videos, (he was a bit larger then lol) I found his teaching so simple to understand, the best advise he ever gave was to get out there and practise, just remember digital film cost nothing shoot lots and delete most at the start. now i am shooting more quality and deleting less now. happy shooting bro
Stephen Bray Hi Stephen, thanks for your comment, I shall take that on board.regards mac.
Great stuff, Mike! That second shot was awesome. Any tips on removing lens flares?
Thanks luka_____, hope these video's help... - CHRISTINA :-)

Thank you, Christina!
I like the lens flare in this photo gives it even more mood i think
Thank you mike great job
Thanks tudor west - CHRISTINA
I think the great thing about light room is you can make the picture to your own taste but a lot of people have given up photography because there pictures were never like these that are retouched
I'm loving you are actually giving info on how to do things and my understanding it. Do you have a video on taking photos of backbit water spray? Like the river was really high and the evening sun was shining through the spray making it look like sparking fire but my photo of it came out so blah. Somewhat similar to sunset photos but there's action. I later practiced on a sprinkler and a faster shutter speed got more droplets but my ISO was too high and tons of noise. So glowing water spray in shade. :D Now I sound all demanding but if there's anything that would help that would be great.
Thanks Anteaters & Foxes If I find myse;lf somewhere where that situation is happening and have a video camera with me I'll happily make a video. It's all down to thinking the shot through. 1 being in the right place at the right time to get the lighting you want. 2 finding the optimum shutter - aperture - ISO combination to freeze movement and get the exposure you want. If the light level is low and aperture wide open then you have no option other than increase ISO. So you may need to re-shoot on a different day in different light... MIKE
Thank you for answering. It was a shady inlet with light shining down through the trees to light up the spraying water. Hope to get the chance to try again since it's nearby.
Hi Mike, thank you again for the priceless tutorials, however I was wondering if you are aware of the fact that in Lightroom "if you hold the Shift key while adding the gradient filter, it will hold straight either vertically or horizontally.
Excellent Mike
Thanks Rob Guiver - CHRISTINA
I enjoy your videos every tome 👍🏻 Can you just tell:
How is the Fuji 10-24 in comparison to a Nikon or Canon 16-35 sort of lenses?
Really enjoyed watching you work with Lightroom. I can't afford Lightroom right now but do have Photoshop CS3. I am a complete beginner but believe you can achieve similar results. Any plans to do a similar video using Photoshop? Thanks!
Thanks Jeremy Ley
. LR is only £8.99 per month and comes with Photoshop as well. That's less than the cost of a coffee a week.. I rarely use Photoshop these days as it's become more the domain of the graphic designer. That said with PS you can do anything Lightroom does and more... Because I don't use it much I'm unlikely to do a video with it.. Sorry to disappoint. - MIKE
Really helpful video.
Thanks Ben - MIKE :-)
Another great video Mike. Would my Nikon D3300 have as much dynamic range with my kit lens as your image? I presume not but I should get similar results?
yes you should! when you use RAW file, you are telling the camera to preserve the details because you will process the image. - Melissa pp Mike
Hello Mr. Browne . I like your explanations very much, thanks for them. Now I have a strange question. Do you happen to know a book that can help me to understand all of the Sony RX10M4? The manual is not giving much details about a lot of things like how to use Fn and C buttons. Itried to get info from Sony that was just pointing back to the manual which has to little info. Together with your explanations and a better knowledge about my camera I can enjoy my hobby even more. Thanks again. Henk from Holland.
Thank you Henk van Erve. Sorry no i can't. I don't shoot Sony and TBH, I rarely ever use all the function buttons and stuff. Just stick to the 3 exposure controls, auto focus settings and sometimes White balance. I'm thinking of super-glueing the function buttons on my XT-1 because I touch them accidentally and mess everything up... MIKE
Great video, I really learnt a lot. Thank you!
than k you Ross - Melissa pp Mike
Great video! Looking on your desk, I see two monitors with different color settings. Don't you calibrate your monitors?
Thanks Odu Kar, yep Mike does calibrate his monitors. Why the two screens look different is a question for Mike so i'll let him answer that one - CHRISTINA :-)
great video again and you are welcome to GREECE!!!
Mike, do you ever use the film simulation presets as a starting point or to see how the photograph looks. I've noticed sometimes, not always it is a great starting point for my editing. I have found that Provia and on occasion Velvia ads a great level of contrast and saturation to the image. It is a great starting point for my edits and adjust accordingly. Thank you for your excellent videos.
Thanks Roger. No I don't but funnily enough I covered how they can be used as a starting point in my 7 Steps To Perfect Pictures Lightroom course... MIKE :-)
Hi mike, im just starting a new hobbie with photography and have watched many of your videos which have realy helped me take some stunning photos for a beginner. i like to mainly photograph cars. i have looked mainly into your landscape videos and added or used a car as my subject. is there any tips you have or able to make a video on automotive photography with using landscapes or scenes that arnt like the usual car shots.
I really like your videos and find they are the best for learning and trying new things, you seem to have a way of making it stick, when im out taking pictures i am remembering things, thinking mike said try this and it really has bought my photos to the next level.
keep up the good work, and i really believe you are helping to make some really good photographers out of us
Arren, thank you for the kind words, we will try to do your request and will put it in a bucket list, for now you can make these things a reality, you see Mike is all about experimenting ,making mistakes and figuring things out, you are not so different from him. You already know what you want " landscapes incorporated with cars" so think like a photographer, think of the best time, the best angle, arrived on the scene, try different lenses and settings, create... what you envision and make it happen by asking the right question to enlighten you. - Melissa PP Mike
Thanks Arren. Melissa said it all really. It's all experimentation to find out what works and what you like. Be careful to choose locations where the car and background landscape won't be conflicting for the viewers attention. - MIKE :-)
Mike Browne thankyou for the fast replys, yeah i like to keep the backgrounds simple so ypu can see the car as bring the same subject, just recently i have been experimenting with a short dof and im quite happy with the results. i take alot from your videos so i owe a big thanks to you for sharing all your knolage with us. i get alot of inspiration from you along with adding my own touches to make it my own. thankyou and looking forward to all the videos to come
arren
like always, I learn something. thanks
Loved it
Great tutorial as always, Mike! :-)
Thanks Svein Arne Grønnevik - CHRISTINA
Great stuff!
Great video Mike and so informative. I have been using Canon's software for editing RAW files but would like to look at using Lightroom. One question please. Do I need to purchase Photoshop as well or is Lightroom a stand alone application? Thank you.
I know everyone says Lightroom, Photoshop or both, but there are alternatives. I suggest you look at Photoshop Elements and stuff at corel.com too. A friend has recently switched from Lr and Ps to On1. All can be tried free of charge for 30 days. I tried three competing products and chose Capture One. For Mac users, Phocus from Hasselblad is worth a try.
John Summerfield thanks John for your reply. I'll look at the alternatives that you mention.
Hi Tony Turner, we always recommend Adobe Lightroom as it's a brilliant bit of software and Mike thinks it's the best out there. You can purchase Lightroom on it's own, you can use Photoshop alongside LR if there is something you want to do but can't in LR. Good luck....if you get stuck we have editing video's and our LR course is available from our website, have added links below... - CHRISTINA :-)

Mike Browne thanks Christina for your advice. Appreciated.
Mike, off-topic, but what software do you use to record your computer screen? I have to do some training for MS Access and it would help if I could record my computer. Thanks much in advance. Brilliant video. I've been using LR since it's inception [RAW Shooter before that] and still picked up a few things!
*Try 'OBS' it's free, and easy to use; the output video from OBS is 720p.*
No worries northof50now, we use 'Screenflow' to record the computer screen - CHRISTINA
Thanks for the recommendation, we use Screenflow at the moment but will keep in mind for the future - CHRISTINA :-)
Great video. Thank you very much
Just Curious, I always enjoy your Photography Videos, good Teacher, although I was wondering what your thoughts or interest is in B&W Photography?
Hi Robert. I love it, and I love colour too... Not much help really am I? Maybe I should make a vid about shooting B&W and how to think in B&W... MIKE :-)
Again another brilliant video. Im wondering though where my "dehaze" slider is as I don't have it. What version of Lightroom is yours please? Im using V6.8 Did not want to do the monthly payment version as Im a hobbyist. Many thanks
hi Mark, Dehaze is available on Lightroom CC :/ but check this article where you can get dehaze as a preset fstoppers.com/hacks/how-get-new-dehaze-tool-lightroom-6-79840 - Melissa pp Mike
Great video as usual, do you think Lightroom is better/easier for a novice than Photoshop Elements as i have Elements and must admit i struggle a bit with it?
Thanks stigg, Lightroom is a great editing software and it makes it easier to organise your photographs too. You can download a trial on the link below.. We also have a Lightroom course available on our website, the video may give you an idea of what to expect - CHRISTINA
www.adobe.com/uk/downloads.html
www.photographycourses.biz/courses/lightroom-workflow
well i really liked the way you touched that picture. i hope to be in the right place at the right time to get similar photos then i will save them for when i get photoshop and enhance them the same way.:>)
Hi Mike, I use gthumb editor (I run a Linux OS) or GIMP editing systems. When I wish to make subtle changes to the slider controls I move the slider to the point where I think it will be a good starting point and then use the mouse wheel to changes in smaller increments. I find it gives me much tighter control. If you aren't familiar with GIMP, by the way, it is a free ware program that compares highly to Photoshop. Perhaps lacking some features in Photoshop, but at a much better price of free.
Brilliant!! Mike has heard of GIMP, I haven't used it myself but have heard it's a good piece of software. You can check out what our expert Sam thinks on the link below... - CHRISTINA
www.photographycourses.biz/videos/creative/photo-editing/gimp_tutorial_1.html
Doug, just for my interest, do you calibrate your monitors?
Peter Moeller Hi Peter , no I don't I'm. no where close to being a pro and can only afford free software.
I tried Gimp and unless you have plenty of time to burn, try to pick up some paid work and invest in proper software. A software like Lightroom (or Aftershot, that's what I use) will totally change your workflow, to the better. Trust me.
Saving on software is saving on the wrong end.
I don't like to spend more than I have to, that's why I use Corel software, and I skip every other paid update. Works for me.
Thanks Peter, unfortunately free ware is all I can afford.
Enjoyed your vid . Thanks Mike :)
Thanks Macsnapshot Photography - CHRISTINA
Helpful as usual - thanks.
Thanks Chris Horner - CHRISTINA
Nice tutorial... Have you ever tried to use DarkTable instead of LR? Its support for luminosity masks would make some of the edits you did here with grad filters much more "selective"...
Thanks Patrick Bellasi. I'm happy with Lightroom and as I don't much like learning new software I just stick to what i know as long as I get what i want. Grads can be much more selective in Lr as well. I didn't go into it in this vid but it's covered in depth in my 7 Steps to perfect pictures course... MIKE
Hi Mike
Amazing content and explanation!
I do have a doubt though, how do you avoid the lens flares completely (when the sun IS in your frame)? As I could see in 3-4 videos of yours, even in RAW format you don't have much/any lens flares.
Thank you Maulik. You can't always avoid lens flare, but you can minimise the chances by ensuring your lens is very clean and shoot straight into the sun, not from an angle. Personally I quite like a bit of lens flare. Adds mood and feeling to some shots... MIKE
@@MikeBrowne Thank you, will try that!
Love your tutorials...but find it difficult watching you go in and out of focus. Is this the Sony A6000 you are using?
Thanks Helen. No we filmed this on Sony PXW X70. Sorry about the focus, it was pretty dark and Simon didn't have much light to see me by. We dfon't use AF because it also goes in and out if I'm not framed square in the middle... MIKE :-/
allo Mike, How is lovely Lymington? Need to get back!
Hi Mixie Palms, Lymington is brilliant and just as lovely as always - CHRISTINA :-)
When's the lightroom editing course coming out ?
Our Lightroom course is available now on our website '7 Steps To Workflow Mastery' - CHRISTINA
www.photographycourses.biz/courses/lightroom-workflow
This is great, thanks!
Thank you Mike that was a really interesting video. One question I would ask: when it comes to entering photos into competitions, would this level of manipulation be acceptable? Competitions often have rules such as this from the BBC: 'Images may be digitally enhanced to remove spots or scratches, but not
manipulated. Entrants can enhance the picture to make it brighter,
clearer etc, but not manipulate the content.' and I have often wondered just what is and isn't considered acceptable in these competitions.
Depends on the competition, but probably. Ken Duncan opposes the manipulation practiced by Christian Fletcher, Peter Eastway and many others, and he's started running competitions. See if you can find what his rules are.
Thanks Kerry B, in regards to your question.....I have no idea. Will entirely depend on which competition it is, there are many different rules. Make sure to read the entry details before hand - CHRISTINA
thank you ...
Thanks Mike
Thanks Vernon Nash - CHRISTINA
