no, Purgatory is NOT in the bible. Roman Catholicism is NOT Christian. Salvation from sin is by Grace alone, through Faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed in Scripture alone, to the Glory of God alone. Yes, purgatory IS in the bible and Roman Catholicism IS CHRISTIAN. Salvation IS NOT BY GRACE AND FAITH ALONE, and also the doctrine of "sola scriptura is a protestant heresy, like the other things you mentioned too.
In Revelation iit's also clearly written that nothing imperfect will enter heaven. Most people don't die with any attachement to sin left. Furthermore Jesus Christ clearly described the purification of the soul in the parable of the unmerciful servant in Matthew 18: 23 - 35. Paul also said that the work will be revealed with fire and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward, if any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though himself will be saved, BUT ONLY AS THROUGH FIRE, 1 Corinthians 3: 11 - 15.

I have frequent conversations with Protestants and lately I've noticed an interesting trend. If you show them a verse in a standard Bible like the NIV that supports the Catholic curch, they immediately say my Bible is not the true Bible. Then, if you ask them what Bible they use, they won't tell you. I've come to the conclusion that they are so committed to their current beliefs, they do not want to hear anything that might contradict their beliefs. They are happy to continue believing what they have always believed, even it is not Biblical.

The Woman is the Jews and her offspring is the church. So nice try there. Offering prayers to mary is offering prayers to satan because the bible is clear thou shalt have no gods before me mary is just like us a sinner in need of a savior who was saved by grace through faith alone. Mary is not my mother she is not the mother of God she does not make intercession Jesus does and she most definitely does not hear prayers. Veneration of mary is not a commandment. Luther, Huss, Knox, and Calvin figured this out the early church preached it and if you met Mary she would tell you to obey Jesus. If your church is not pointing to Jesus in all things it's satanic. (name me one protestant sect that has the monopoly on virtue and purity) The true miracle of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church is that it has outlasted all other nations and institutions in spite of her sinful members and clergy. If Christ's Church failed, then He is a liar, after promising that He will remain with His Church until the end of time and the gates of the underworld will not hold out against it.

Further, the many protestant sects have broken away from the arc and are floating (or drowning) in the storm on planks ripped off the main ship. These sects are barely surviving in the storm, constantly splintering further and paddling their own way with their bootleg (unauthorised) bibles, blinded by the storm and no clue where they're going. They constantly conduct pirate raids on the arc and steal away (proselytise) unsuspecting, uneducated Catholics like you.

Lets suppose purgatory is real. Looking at the martyred saints of Revelation 5-8, they were killed during the great Tribulation for the faith, an untold multitude according to Johns eye witness account. According to Rome purgatory could be years, decades, even aeons and yea even no time at all. Yet, here standing in heaven WITHIN the time frame of the great tribulation are those standing before God in a state of Grace glorified BEFORE the great tribulation has concluded. These are believers NOT in purgatory but standing before Christ.
What are the odds you suppose this great multitude, recorded by John, advanced through purgatory in a fraction of a time? All at the same relative time??? Given the churches adamant feelings on this Did this great multitude receive special attention from God outside the constructs and rules of purgatory???
Romes primary evidence of support is …
      1 Corinthians 3:12-15 ESV Right???
If purgatory is purification, then why does the believer hay/stubble suffer loss? What reward is given in purgatory pertaining to those whose works are burned up? One person gets reward, the other does not. What is the benefit of purgatory for the one who gets no reward?
If the reward is heaven, then this can’t be purgatory, because the reward of purgatory’s purification is heaven, and the one who’s works are consumed receiving no reward. Works of hay and stubble receive bo reward, Therefore, under purgatories reward does not apply and this passage couldn’t possibly refer to purgatory.
When righteousness is counted, apart from works, then works as a measure of purification in a place like purgatory fights the concept of righteousness counted apart of such things.
When sin is not counted against the blessed man, when Christ becomes sin for us, purgatories purpose loses logical reason.
The dept we owe for our sins is unpayable. That’s why the most we can contribute towards salvation is a broken and contrite heart over our sin but we can do nothing about it apart from God. If we pay for our sins in purgatory then jesus dying on the cross was for nothing. Jesus paid the fine. Simple scripture.
Any scripture apart from this logic like - not forgiving your brother or not loving your neighbor is simply commandment structures within the regenerate mind not commandment structures to cause the regenerate mind. God is the one that regenerates. God is the one that changes, God is the one that renews the mind, God is the one that directs and causes us to walk in his rules and statutes.
      1 John 3:9 ESV
No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.
The believers approach to sin is one of a non-practiced nature and inability to commit unrepentantly. This is why in love we are treated as sons before the father through correction. Hebrews 12:4-8

@@HillbillyBlack Revelation 5:8 never says that the saints that died went to heaven immediately, and the loss that a believer will endure is his loss of his rewards in heaven. Purgatory is also a light punishment for the sins we haven't repented for.

I THOUGHT YOU ARE MORE OF A SPIRITUAL LIFE. ARE YOU STILL FEEDING ON MILK AND NOT READY FOR SOLID FOOD?. Let the Holy Spirit clear things out. 🙏🙏When a man is defending a men belief system, he is bound to butcher Scriptures like catechism to make it whatever he wants it to be in accord with his belief. The fact the catechism said the elect needs purification when they die in such a non existent place is sheer foolishness. THE ELECT ARE ALREADY 100% cleansed. But the catechism will not allow that because it goes against its doctrines. Yes. We are no longer impure even if a righteous man falls seventy seven times, we rise again. You fall into sin that doesn't mean we become impure which then again Christ will have to die to cleanse again? No . Purification is completed. Only the repent part is needed if anyone falls after accepting the blood of Christ. Yes the stain of sin needs to be repent. We enter into God's throne through the blood of Christ & REPENT. Once repent, God chooses to remember it no more. The fact that the catechism makes the blood of Christ limited is the very essence it got the whole concept of Jesus death at the cross wrong. The blood of Christ has 100% cleanse & makes us pure. The cleansing part is forever. It doesn't mean that when we fall to sin then the cleansing is gone. God does not change His mind. No sacrifice is needed anymore. The very fact that there are no more animal sacrifices should make one open their eyes. What happens when we sin or fall, all it needs now is to Repent and believe in the power of the blood of Christ. Those who sin while struggling and not forgetting to rise back up and walk with God in spirit and truth are well assured. To think that we need cleansing again is madness. It's the blood of CHRIST. It is meant to cleanse all sin be it venial sin or anything.
(Noah's' entire family was saved because of Noah). You never know because of you accepting Christ, God can do miracle of saving your whole family. Because men's knowledge will make you think even when we accepted Christ, we are not yet perfect since we fall again. But that's is only men thoughts. Did it come to the mind what God thoughts is?It is done you are made perfect through Christ in your imperfections. That's why we are saved not by good works but by His grace & our faith. We are already perfected by the cloth of righteousness of Jesus Christ. That's why God will no longer remember our sin because when He looks at us, He looks through His son Jesus Christ who made us spotless in His sight.
      ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1:16‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬
[16] for by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities-all things have been created through Him and for Him.
[22] yet He has now reconciled you in His body of flesh through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach- ...
      ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:22‭-‬23‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬
[22] Since you have purified your souls in obedience to the truth for a sincere love of the brothers and sisters, fervently love one another from the heart, [23] for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable, but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.
If 1 Peter through the Holy Spirit does not tell you or confirmed you that Purgatory is false doctrines to waste our time to make meaningless prayers then God saved you all and removed your blindness.
Jesus did said let the dead bury the dead ( Mathew 8:22). It was simply you, who is alive focused on things that are alive and continue to LOOSE( take people out from this world) & BIND( Bring people into the kingdom of God) rather than on the dead.
I SEE SHEER FOOLISHNESS HERE TO PREACH OF SOMETHING TO WATSE OUR TIME WITH.
      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16:6‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬
[6] And Jesus said to them, “Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
[12] Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Beware false and wrong teachings are everywhere. Ask for spiritual discernment . Above all, walk in Galatians 5:25. As true Christians, all have been given authority to read and interpret the scriptures for Jesus has given the Holy Spirit as helper for all who believed. The Bible is an inspiration to all. LEARN TO SPEAK TO THE HOLY SPIRIT for Jesus said that the Holy Spirit is with us and in us. How to hear Him ? Make your life more spirited life over a fleshy life. Otherwise, you are not ready for solid food. Men's knowledge is great no doubt but without God wisdom is FOOLISHNESS.
      ABOVE ALL,
      ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭7:24‭-‬25‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬
[24] Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently. [25] Therefore He is also able to save forever those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Jesus continue forever. He is also a forever priest and better yet forever and intercessor also.
We can go directly to Jesus those who have a much better understanding.thatnwe lived by Spirit. One must understand Jesus is forever priest. Go and confess or repent your sin to Him.
To conclude PURGATORY is a false doctrine of men knowledge to de value the plan of God through the death of Christ in which His blood has eternally cleanse the human sin. Get it that even if an elect falls like King David but God has already cleanse him and because of what David did as he was continually seeking God strength & living in God path despite of his sin , that what counts. One must realised if a person fall into sin after he recieved baptism is no longer a sin that needs cleaning for the blood of Christ has already cleanse it. All it need now is to repent . So if the elect is continuing to worship God and obey His truth even when he died, he is spotless. The new life is forever. All the scriptures I quoted confirmed the purgatory is men-made purification that goes against God. Not cherry pick.
Shalom. May you allow the Holy Spirit to guide you brother rather than based on your own belief and your own self knowledge. A man who is more into spirit life will understand that nothing he holds is the truth for the truth is God alone. For God to reveal. Our very own belief system or the truth we think we know can also be not the truth of God.

There is actually a direct reference to souls in purgatory in the Bible. 1 Cor 3:15, and the setting requiring that situation is seen in Matt 16:27 and Rev 21:27 where [God will render to every man according to his works], and [Nothing defiled will enter heaven]. Remember that the totality of the truth is both Oral and Written. Written in Scripture, and Oral Tradition handed down and recorded in various places from the Apostles, disciples, and saints in the church. Purgatory has always been known to exist in the church. Thats why its in the catechism and doctrine. The church can invent nothing ... The Holy Spirit does continue to educate and illuminate those truths originally witnessed by the apostles and laid out by Christ orally, but nothing is 'added' per se.

[10] By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. [11] For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. [12] If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, [13] their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. [14] If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. [15] If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved-even though only as one escaping through the flames.
Brother. You 're off the topic. 1 Cor 3: 15 is talking about a person's work on the foundation laid down in Christ alone. The fire is the test of God to know what kind of work is it. It's not at all related to purgatory. Purgatory is defined by the catechism as a process of purification for the elect which is foolish at the sight of God for the elect are already purified forever and made spotless through the blood of Christ. Or are you saying brother that the soul are building some work in Jesus foundation in purgatory?
Here, the scriptures are merely a comparison that a person is saved and that save is like someone who has escaped from a burning fire. It's simple. Don't stress the typology meaning here. It's just a plain comparison of someone to a plain fire flame. Just say, Like someone who has escaped from an accident burning house.
The scriptures are not relating to anything else rather plainly to the meaning of the context. Don't twist it like the catechism way.
Don't just read 1 Cor 3:15 brother. Read it entirely and you'll get the clear picture brother.
The other scriptures you mentioned are clearly off the hook. Their own meanings.
I have explained clearly we are already made spotless. Etc. But that's up to you if you want to continue to follow the doctrines of purgatory.

    • @voxangeli9205
      @voxangeli9205 2 роки тому +6

Jesus took him directly to the paradise or to heaven.
He did not have “to go” to purgatory anymore for his own “cleansing” or “purification” on the next life, because his own suffering on the cross in the process served the purpose already for the necessary penance of his repentance of his sins.
He was made righteous by Jesus when he told the other guy that, as grievous sinners, both of them deserve the suffering on the cross instead and that Jesus doesn’t, because He is not guilty of any sin at all. This guy’s acceptance of his own suffering on the cross and his supposed willingness to accept this terrible punishment as payment for his grievous sins have made him righteous in the eyes of Jesus Christ.
Acts 26:20 shows us that there is necessary penance for the repentance of our sins in this life, and if we were not able to do so in this life before death or that if we still have some “imperfections” in our Christian lives (but don’t deserve eternal damnation either), it’s then that the concept of purgatory comes in.
Brother in Christ, does this make sense to you or help you understand the concept of purgatory in any way?
      God bless.

I was raised catholic, taught by nuns, priests, the missle, catechism & then I read the Bible, saw many catholic contradictions, many opinions that twisted the facts of how the scripture's intent was purposed & sadly, saw many deletions & additions to the RCC bible. God refutes what the RCC teaches about Mary, dead creations, purgatory & angels. God said "believers go to the grave at death, where they "sleep" until the resurrection" (I Cor 15). God never contradicts himself which means 'Mary' has never been on earth in any form that the RCC teach. No one on earth knows 'who' will end up in heaven or hell so why does the RCC pray to human creations who have died & r in the grave? The Bible plainly says that "no man has ascended to heaven" John 3:13 & "ALL have sinned" Rom 3:23, & "no one is truly righteous" Rom 3:10. Why has the RCC always ignored & contradicted the words of God? “For there is one God, and ONE mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” 1 Tim. 2:5.(not Mary, not the 'saints'). Purgatory is NOT in the bible & that's why you can't quote ONE single vs that says it is. All ur doing is throwing out a bunch of words that r opinions, not facts. The teachings of the RCC take the word out of context in order to pretend it refers to 'purgatory'. "Is God a liar"? Isa 6:3, "In vain, they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of MEN" Mt 15:9 Or is man a liar?

Purgatory is in the Bible. HENCE the video you ignored lol. Inform yourself friend, and don't remain an ignorant ex-Catholic who never knew their faith to begin with. Also, you said no man has ascended to heaven. That was before Jesus died and rose lol. This is what happens when people like yourself have free access to the Bible. You twist it to your own destruction (2 Pet. 3:16).
You non-Catholics all go by the Bible alone, all "pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance" and yet all contradict each other. No offense, but hardly anyone believes in soul sleep. It's a fringe belief, and most Christians, based off the same Bible, believe that people go to heaven. We can even see proof of this in the Bible. Rev. 6:9 for example.
So, soul sleep or not. Bible only Christians say yes and no. Baptism in the trinity or the name of Jesus. Bible only people say yes to one or the other. Once saved always saved? Some Bible onlys say yes and others say no and the list could go on.
Jesus started the Catholic Church, the very same church that gave you the Gospel in the first place. It was the Catholic Church alone that put the bible together, chose the books that would make up the Bible, and put it under one cover by the authority of Christ and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It was also the Catholic Church alone that copied the bible for over a thousand years and translated it into different languages and taught it to the world! It was the protestants who would take out books from the Bible over 1,100 years later.
Sadly, you did not know your Catholic faith before you left and you were duped by Protestant man-made religions. We have videos answering all of your claims that you don't understand.

To have to go to an intermediary place to purge any remaining sins before finally entering heaven is a slap in the face to the cruxifiction and resurrection. Yes, Old Testament and apocrypha books talked about praying for the dead, however it was for the hope that they would ultimately be with the Lord. I believe we both agree that there was a temporary place where the righteous dead would go, Sheol, to await the time of judgement and be with God. Christ’s death and resurrection was what all the saints of old were waiting for. He is the intermediary for our sins, he is the way to the father. Because of his sacrifice, we become the righteousness of God.

Because if you have believed and accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior and then you are already put right with Him, and repentance for them is only once! But then what Bryan said in 5:18 to 5:55 says it all and why we we can't go directly to heaven but we are already saved. We only needed to be purified. I know a lot of people too who claim that they have a change in life because they accepted the Lord already, but in deed does otherwise (hate for example, gossip, not being able to forgive), that's why we had to constantly examine ourselves, because we sin continuously. God knows that there are times in our lives that we have done heartily what He commanded us to do, and still we fall short. It would then contradict to God being just if He just erases all things done with love and faith for Him! and throw these people to hell! Shalom 🕊🙏

Therefore, this is still Old Testament times. Thus, he js not held to the same New Testament Commandments or standards. Plus, the Catholic Church teaches that if you have a deathbed conversion, you can still be saved. Again, it's an exception, but not the rule.
      Hope that helps.

Where in the bible is "plenary indulgence," " indulgence," or the other type of Catholic indulgence taught or explained? He who knew no sin became sin so that we might be made the righteousness of God -- WHAT CHRISTIANS BELIEVE!!!! WE ARE RIGHTEOUS BECAUSE OF JESUS! Jesus said IT IS FINISHED. Jesus' work & death is enough-- to completely satisfy the wrath & judgment of God. Catholics don't believe this. Even MOTHER THERESA did not KNOW if Jesus & Father God would accept her; she " hoped" He would. That's truly sad.

In regards to Righteousness and Sin @5:17
I always point people to Genesis 4:7 If you act rightly, you will be accepted;* but if not, sin lies in wait at the door: its urge is for you, yet you can rule over it.
God does not lie if He told Cain that acting rightly brings acceptance by God and mastery over sin then God made it possible for everyone to do so. Through Jesus, we now have the GIFT of the Holy Spirit to purge sin from us and purify us, it is a process. The Holy Spirit comforts us and encourages us to keep going, HE is our hope while we wait for resurrection. We cannot after knowing Christ remain within willful indulgences or walk after the lusts of the flesh that is doing things our way.
Beloved St. Paul says in Hebrews 10: 26-29
If we sin deliberately after receiving knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains sacrifice for sins
but a fearful prospect of judgment and a flaming fire that is going to consume the adversaries.t
Anyone who rejects the law of Moses* is put to death without pity on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
Do you not think that a much worse punishment is due the one who has contempt for the Son of God, considers unclean the covenant-blood by which he was consecrated, and insults the spirit of grace?
Lastly, Purgatory is a very Jewish teaching! If Jesus was born a Jew and the Apostles were Jewish, the early Church surely taught this. (Zechariah 13:9)

😊After Adam's sin, the gates of Heaven were closed, and no one was allowed to enter (John 3:13) until Jesus Christ redeemed the human race and opened the gates once again. Where were the spirits of Moses and Elias, who appeared and spoke with Jesus at the transfiguration (Matthew 17:3)? They could not have been in Heaven since it was closed, and they would have been lost had they been in hell. They had to have been in a third place. If there was a third place then, why not a third place now?
What about Lazarus? He was already dead four days (John 11:17) when Jesus arrived at his tomb. Where was his soul during those four days? It could not be heaven or hell for the same reasons as for Moses and Elias.
His soul had to have been in a third place.
      Philippians 2:10 says:
"That at the name of Jesus, every knee should bend of those in Heaven, on earth, and 'under the earth'."
'Under the earth', could it mean hell, or is it a third place?
Non Catholic theologians struggle trying to reconcile their denial of the existence of Purgatory with what Paul said in 1Corinthians 3:12-15:
"Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw- each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire*."
To whom do these verses refer? Obviously the person is not in hell, as verse 15 says "himself will be saved". He cannot be in heaven either as the same verse implies suffering, "as through fire", and there is no suffering in heaven. These verses say that man will be purified by fire and then will be saved to enter Heaven. Where will this, "yet as though through fire", take place if not in a third place called Purgatory?
"And who shall be able to think of the day of His coming? And who shall stand to see Him? For HE IS LIKE A REFINING FIRE, and like the fuller's herb; AND HE SHALL SIT REFINING AND CLEANSING THE SILVER. AND HE SHALL PURIFY THE SONS OF LEVI, AND SHALL REFINE THEM AS GOLD, AND AS SILVER, and they shall offer sacrifices to the Lord in justice."
      Malachi 3:2-3
"...Strike the Shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn My hand to the little ones. And they shall be in all the earth, said the Lord, TWO PARTS IN IT SHALL BE SCATTERED, AND SHALL PERISH, BUT THE THIRD PART SHALL BE LEFT THEREIN. AND I WILL BRING THE THIRD PART THROUGH THE FIRE, AND WILL REFINE THEM AS SILVER IS REFINED, AND I WILL TRY THEM AS GOLD IS TRIED. THEY SHALL CALL ON MY NAME, AND I WILL HEAR THEM. I WILL SAY: YOU ARE MY PEOPLE. AND THEY SHALL SAY; THE LORD IS MY GOD."
      Zechariah 13:7-9
"As silver is tried by fire, and gold in the furnace, so the Lord tries the hearts."
      Proverbs 17:3.
The metal refiner watches the silver, for if the process is longer than necessary, the silver will be harmed.
"He shall sit refining and cleansing the silver. And he shall purify the sons of Levi, and shall refine them as gold, and as silver..."
      Malachi 3:3.
HE KNOWS THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE WHEN HE CAN SEE HIS OWN IMAGE REFLECTED IN THE SILVER.
GOD SAID, "LET US MAKE MANKIND IN OUR IMAGE AND LIKENESS."
      Genesis 1:26
"...Woe is me, because I have held my peace; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people that has unclean lips, and I have seen with my eyes the King of the Lord of Hosts. And one of the Seraphims flew to me, and in his hand was a live coal, which he had taken with the tongs off the altar. And he touched my mouth and said, 'BEHOLD THIS HAS TOUCHED YOUR LIPS, AND YOUR INIQUITIES SHALL BE TAKEN AWAY, AND YOUR SIN SHALL BE CLEANSED'." Isaiah 6:5-7
What can this possibly mean other than a purgation of sins through fire?
In 1Peter 3:19, Christ preached to the spirits in prison. What spirits? What prison? We will become pure spirits only after we die, so the spirits have to be the spirits of the dead. Prison cannot mean Heaven, and souls in hell are lost forever. Prison must mean a third place.
1Peter 4:6, the Gospel was preached "even to the dead". Again, where were these dead?
Matthew 12:32, "...but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him either in this world or in the world to come." This passage alludes to another world in which some sins will be forgiven. What other world? Again it could not be either Heaven or hell.
Hebrews 12:23, "...and to the Church of the Firstborn who are enrolled in the heavens, and to GOD, THE JUDGE OF ALL AND TO THE SPIRITS OF THE JUST MADE PERFECT."
We have already seen from Revelation 21:27 that nothing imperfect will enter heaven, and in Hebrews 12:23, the spirits of the just are made perfect. Revelation 22:14 shows that there will be a cleansing before admission to the tree of life and entrance through the gates of the city. Where will all of this happen if not in a third place?
"For everyone shall be salted with fire, and every victim shall be salted."
      Mark 9:48.
What fire, but the purification fire of Purgatory?
"But that servant who knew his masters will, and did not make ready for him and did not act according to his will, will be beaten with many stripes."
      Luke 12:47.
Are people beaten in Heaven? Those in hell are lost, so where will this punishment be fulfilled?
Very strong evidence that a third place exists, is in 2Maccabees 12:38-46:
"...it is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to Pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins."
If there are only Heaven and hell, why then does Scripture ask us to pray for the dead? If the dead are in hell, prayer is useless. If the dead are in Heaven, prayer is not needed. Therefore there has to be a third place where prayers are needed.
St. Paul prayed for his dead friend Onesiphorus in 2Timothy 1:18,
"May the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that day."
Why would Paul pray for the dead if he thought his friend to be in heaven or hell where prayers would help neither?
The greatest torment in Purgatory is to be separated from GOD for a period of time. Remember, in this life we have five senses, and they are always a distraction for us when we try to concentrate on things of GOD such as prayer. After we leave this life, we are spirit and have lost our five senses. There are no more distractions.
Purgatory should be regarded as a great blessing from GOD. Even though souls there are in torment, it is only a temporary torment. All who go there are assured of eventually gaining the Kingdom of Heaven.
It sure beats the third alternative...

All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and *worshiped God,* saying: Amen! Just a thought on the reference in the book of second Macabees and the references in it which are attributed to Purgatory. Whether an official part of biblical study or not there is Description and Prescription. For example, Jacob took two wives, and had many children by Leah, as well as maidservants of both Leah and Rachel. This is description, but likely not God's prescription for how his people ought to live. It feels the same in second Macabees that while Judas Macabeas promotes praying for the dead and offering alms for them this doesn't sound like prescription, but rather a description of something that happened.

Luke 19: 22 "And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."
He can’t be in hell, because he has charity for his brethren. He asks Abraham to send Lazerus (not God). Abraham doesn’t say that Lazerus couldn’t go to his brethren, he just says that he wouldn’t be able to persuade them. They mention an impenetrable chasm between Abraham’s bosom and Hell, but NOT between either place and earth.
Luke 12:42 "The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43 It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But suppose the servant says to himself, ‘My master is taking a long time in coming,’ and he then begins to beat the other servants, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk. 46 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
47 “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."
4 possible outcomes here: faithful and wise manager goes to heaven
      abusive master goes to hell
master who knows what is expected but doesn't do it get MANY BLOWS
master who didn't know exactly what was expected of him gets FEW BLOWS
What do you make of the last two scenarios?

Since you claim there is no "purgatory " Then please explain where Jesus' Spirit went for the 3 days his body was dead? Sacred Scripture says ",, that he went and preached to the spirits who lay in prison. " ( 1 Peter 3:19) Where was this prison? was it in Heaven? If so why would there be a prison in Paradise? Was the prison in the Hell of the Damned? If so why would the damned need to hear the Gospel? .
as you say there is no "purgatory" then Jesus did not have to die on the cross. If Moses and Abraham and the rest of the OT Faithful were already in the presence of the Lord then Jesus did not have to die.
His death on the cross opened the narrow gate and the OT faithful passed through that narrow gate from the wilderness into the Promised land.
The OT Faithful that died waiting for the Messiah weren't in slavery in Egypt- the antetype of hell of the damned for they had been rescued but they weren't in the Promised land of heaven either. Jesus' death opened the narrow gate and fulfilled the Covenant. Please study the Hebrew thoughts of Sheol and the grave, and note that Sheol is NOT Gehenna. Gehenna is for the accursed and the Damned not Abraham or Moses.
The waiting in the spiritual wilderness is the best explanation of "purgatory" I can think of right now.
      Thanks for listening and remember Revelation 21 :17 & 1 Cor 3:15 especially verses 10-15. ----
the word hell means Hades or Sheol, the collective abode of the dead, divided into Paradise or Abraham's Bosom--the state of God-fearing souls--and Gehenna, the state of ungodly souls. Thus the descent into hell suggests that the Son of God carried the sins of the world to hell; or the Son of God carried Good News of deliverance to the godly dead such as Lazarus the beggar and the repentant thief.

Praying for the dead is not a biblical concept. Our prayers have no bearing on someone once he or she has died. The reality is that, at the point of death, one’s eternal destiny is confirmed. Either he is saved through faith in Christ and is in heaven where he is experiencing rest and joy in God’s presence, or he is in torment in hell. The story of the rich man and Lazarus the beggar provides us with a vivid illustration of this truth. Jesus plainly used this story to teach that after death the unrighteous are eternally separated from God, that they remember their rejection of the gospel, that they are in torment, and that their condition cannot be remedied (Luke 16:19-31).

    • @CatholicTruthOfficial

Thanks for the comment. Praying to the dead is an Old Testament term because when people died they stayed in the grave. They had no consciousness, and we could not communicate to them unless we conjured up their Spirit through some black magic or something. However, since then, Jesus has died on the cross and has conquered sin and death. Therefore, people who die now are not rotting in the grave, but they are alive with Christ and perfected with him in heaven. The Bible shows that people are alive in heaven in Revelation 9:6, they are conscious, and they remember what's going on. Jesus even spoke to two dead people, Moses and Elijah in Matthew 17 because they are not dead and in the grave anymore.

How did Jesus tell the thief on the cross today you will be with me in paradise, being a thief is a mortal sin and therefore could not go to purgatory, the only answer is Jesus Christ's perfect righteous was given to the thief, so there is no need for a place called purgatory that was brought into the church when Constantine United the church with the state in the 3rd century, purgatory is a pagan belief, Scripture will never back that up so all the passages u are using are being twisted. In Mathew 5 the context is the mortal sin of murder and can not be purified in purgatory according to your own beliefs, so when it says you wont come out of prison till u pay the last penny it's not talking about purgatory it's talking about an earthly court and prison. In 2nd maccabees. The men that were slain had committed idolatry because they had pagan amulets around their necks that was forbidden by the law to ware because it was idolatry. Idolatry is a mortal sin and can't be purified so the offering of 2000 pieces of silver could not be to get them out of purgatory. This is another example of twisting scripture to fit a pagan doctrine. There is no purgatory in the bible.

A great many people believe falsely in purgatory. A miserable place where people supposedly go after death. No place in the bible does it mention Purgatory. There is not a single verse with which to defend the false theology of purgatory. In fact, the very idea of a second route to heaven runs counter to God's redemptive plan. Jesus Christ was the substitute for all of us and His death paid our sin-debt. He obtained our eternal redemption with His blood (Heb. 9:12). If there is a place where people can go to suffer for their own sins in other words, pay their own penalty, then God sending His Son to die makes no sense and was a lie. In John 14:2, Jesus told the disciples that He was going away to prepare a place for His followers. Nowhere in Scripture do we find any mention of a detour into misery where we "earn" a pass into heaven. The Bible says that believers are either at home in the body, or absent from it and present with the Lord. There is simply no in-between stopover. I respect the right to believe as one chooses (Primarly a Roman However, this philosophy is not a biblical truth. Those who reject Christ get no second chance after death. They are eternally separated from God. But whoever receives salvation is completely forgiven of all sin and guaranteed an eternity with Him.

DO YOU WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN?
The Bible declares, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23 KJV). Because of sin, none of us can pay the price to enter heaven. Regardless of how many “good” works we do, we are still sinners by birth, unable to merit God’s favor. We have come short of God’s righteous standards.
Thus, in order to enter heaven, we need God’s righteousness. The good news is that, through the finished crosswork of Jesus Christ on Calvary, we can be made “the righteousness of God in Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV). We can receive God’s righteousness as a free gift! We can receive eternal salvation from our sins!
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8,9 KJV).
“The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23 KJV).
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1 KJV).
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8 KJV).
“In whom [Christ] we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” (Ephesians 1:7 KJV).
“In whom [Christ] we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:14 KJV).
“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9 KJV).
“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness” (Romans 4:5 KJV).
“What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:30,31 KJV).
Salvation = Faith + Nothing. It is free to you because Jesus Christ paid the price. Do you believe that? Have you fully trusted in that alone for salvation?
Jesus Christ (God manifested in human flesh), in His great love, grace, and mercy, paid the penalty for our sins. The Gospel of the Grace of God which saves lost mankind is: “Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and He rose again the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV). The Lord Jesus Christ shed His sinless blood to forgive us our sins, but the Bible declares that anyone who rejects the Gospel of Grace will have to pay for his or her sins in the lake of fire for all eternity.
When you trust exclusively in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, Jesus Christ’s righteousness will be applied to you. Jesus Christ is perfect, so His righteousness imputed to us is our only means of getting into heaven. Will you trust in Christ Jesus alone as your personal Saviour? I hope you will accept God’s offer today!

Always appreciate your presentations Bryan, but I have to strongly oppose this doctrine.
Romans 7,the whole chapter sets out who we are positionally with christ,in God.purgatory tells us the precious blood is insufficient for the cleansing of the stain of sin, purgatory tells us we are not children of God,adopted as sons and daughters, who can cry out ABBA,father,it's telling that 10 minutes in and the word grace hasn't passed your lips,
It's a dreadful heavy burden placed on the backs of the catholic, how long Lord after death before I'm ready for heaven? ,will my loved ones faithfully lift up prayers and give alms to cut short my time in this halfway house of purification? Sorry, but I'm cross,Luther saw what was there,in his New testament,he didn't.invent a spurious heresy, purgatory tells us 'this body of death' as Paul puts it,accompanies us after death and hangs around, its so shocking,I'm dismayed.

      Stephen,
      A. Do you die in a state of sin, having an inclination to sin?
      B. When you enter heaven, do you still have this inclination to sin? (of course not, you are purified, as nothing unclean can enter heaven)
What do you call the process from going from A to B of cleansing the soul ?
Keep in mind the verse below. One can never be saved in hell. And one can never suffer loss in heaven. It is describing another state of being after death. Purgatory. In reading the Old Testament, there was the abode of Abraham, a "place" of neither hell nor heaven.
_For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble-each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, _*_he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire._* (1 Cor 3)
      "Luther"
Father Luther had no authority whatsoever to say Christendom had errored, and error'd repeatedly and universally on doctrine. He made Christ out to be a liar as HE failed to lead His Church to ALL Truth as he promised. The Church was NOT the Pillar of Truth. The Church was not the Bulwark of Truth. The Church was NOT where the manifold wisdom of God was made known. Sola Scriptura gave him no right to say that his interpretation of scripture, decapitated from the Christian faith was right. That's too why he had no right to say that Father Zwingli was wrong on the Eucharist, bringing Fr Zwingli to tears.
" the precious blood is insufficient for the cleansing of the stain of sin,"
Well no. We are saved by Christ's sacrifice. Saved 100% by grace, an unmerited gift, through faith, a faith working in love. Purgatory recognizes both the spiritual cleansing of the soul that may be needed to enter heaven, and God's justice of debt due to sin itself.
"t's a dreadful heavy burden placed on the backs of the catholic, how long Lord after death before I'm ready for heaven? "
The "fire" of purgatory is viewed as the love of Christ purifying the soul. That's not a heavy burden .. .the soul understands as scripture states that nothing unclean can enter heaven. And one is after death outside of earth's time and space. How time passes afterwards is admittedly a mystery but that cleansing process may be very quick.

Purgatory and salvation are not the same issue. Here's the old analogy. If you break your neighbor's window. you've damaged your relationship. If you renpent and he forgives you, you've been reconciled (eternal punishment removed). but there's still a broken window. Who should fix it? Your friendship has been repaired, but you haven't made him whole. fixing the window fixes the imblance. (temporal debt paid.)
He would have been back in God's graces with the forgiveness. Heaven is open to him. But he can't enter with outstanding debt. It must be paid. It purifies him. Nothing impure enters heaven.
Imagine a guiy who leaves his family for the Hollywood dream. His family is left with sometimes irreversable damage like seeking comfort in drugs, crime, sex, suicide, etc.
If this guy repents on his deathbed. God will forgive him, an open heaven to him. But what about trail of carnage he's left behin?. Is it fair that his kids will never know God because of him? How could he bring that human damage into heaven with him?
Jesus bought our souls for eternal life. He never said that His act would repair all the damage we've caused to others.

      1 John 5:16-17
      Matthew 5:48
We must be holy (sinless, perfect, clean) to see God and enter into His kingdom. This is evident by the numerous scriptures that tell us that we cannot see God being unclean, we cannot see the Lord unless we are holy, we must be made perfect, etc. This can either be done by dying with no sin through our suffering and good will on Earth, or by dying with lesser sins and being made pure by God as through fire. This fire is the purgatory in which Catholics believe. If God deems us worthy of entering heaven, but we have unconfessed lesser sins, then we are given the opportunity through the grace of God to enter purgatory to purge the remaining sins to be made pure and holy so that we may join Him in heaven.
      Owed Debt
We owe God an account for all of our actions good or bad, and will need to repay Him...
      Luke 12:57-59
      Matthew 5:25-26
      Matthew 18:34-35
      2 Corinthians 5:10
God is described as our Father in the Bible and is truly our ultimate Father. During purgatory, we are to pay off the debt we have made here on Earth. We need to be pure to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. This debt is not like a cruel punishment, but something a father does out of love. Every sin that we commit greatly saddens our Father similar to a child and his/her parents. Our Father wants us to be with him forever in heaven, though, and thus we need to be cleansed of all our sins and tendency to sin. Nothing impure can enter into His Kingdom.
      Atonement for the Dead
Those who have died are prayed for so that they might receive mercy...
      2 Maccabees 12:43-46
      2 Timothy 1:16-18
Praying for the "dead" is something that has been done from the beginning. As Catholics, though, we do not need to pray for those that have been deemed to be in heavens such as saints, but ask for their prayers. Besides that, even if we are unsure whether they are in purgatory or Hell, we are called to pray for them. Although, there is not too much scriptural evidence of praying for the "dead", 2 Maccabees is pretty clear that it is something holy and pleasing to do. Since Jesus is God of the living (Matthew 22:31) and there is a purgatory, it would be a very good thing to pray for their souls and make atonement for them.
      Suffering
Our suffering is a necessary part of obtaining sactification so that we might be worthy to be in the presence of God...
      Romans 5:3-5
      Hebrews 12:5-11
      1 Peter 1:3-7
      Zechariah 13:9
It is impossible to have lived and not suffered in one way or another. Our life may end short, we may live long with a painful illness, and even from the point we are born our bodies suffer the shock of the cold air after being in the warm womb of our mother. This suffering that we endure is in union with the suffering Christ endured and as such is powerful in many ways. When looking at the many times we fail to follow God's will, He is forgiving and loving like a father and yet we are disciplined as a son is as well. This discipline is necessary to get us to where He wants us to be, which is to share in His holiness. For some of us, at the end of our lives we may not have ended in an unclean state. In these cases, Catholics believe in purgatory as many scriptures indicate a place to go through the fire to be purified and made holy for heaven. After all, unless we are made holy/unclean we cannot see our Lord.

@@reylambarte5615 Prove to you? It's very simple. The good thief went straight to paradise without passing through purgatory because he was repentant and was FORGIVEN by Jesus. By virtue of this forgiveness, he had NO stain of sin at the moment he died, and so could go straight to heaven. However, if a person is guilty of sin "that leads to death" (1 John 5:16-17) and fails to REPENT and receive FORGIVENESS before he dies, such a person goes straight to Hell (the Bible describes going to Hell as a form of "death" Revelation 20:14). But what about a person who is guilty of sin "that does NOT LEAD TO DEATH" (1 John 5:16-17) and fails to receive forgiveness before he dies? That person would not go straight to HELL (i.e "eternal death" ) because his sin is a sin that DOES NOT lead to death. But would he go STRAIGHT to heaven? No, because NO FORM of impurity (sin) can enter Heaven (Revelation 21:27). Thus, the ONLY option left for such a person is to undergo a period of purification in the after - life before entering heaven. The church calls this purification phase purgatory

Thank you for the question. The thief was under the old Covenant law, not the New Testament law or teaching, because Jesus had not even died or risen yet.
That aside, we don't know for sure whether he went to heaven that day or had to go to purgatory first. In Jesus wouldn't even rise and set people free from their sins for 3 days until he rose from the dead. So he could have gone to the Abode of the Dead during that time which is where everyone else was that Jesus rescued.
Either way, the Catholic Church teaches that certain people can go straight to heaven. He had perfect contrition of sin on his Deathbed and so could have gone straight to heaven. Not everybody goes to purgatory first. On the other hand, it is possible that he did and still went to heaven with Christ that day since it's outside of space and time. It doesn't really match up one with the other like our timelines do here. Hope that helps.

I have a strong argument against Purgatory. I would like to respectfully present it to all of you. Purgatory never sat right with me as I thought about it. It seems like a silly/false thing from my perspective. I have not grown up in the Roman Catholic Church so i look at scripture without any preconceived notions about what I'm going to find there. I did not grow up religious so I also did not have a strong perspective on Christianity or its doctrines growing up. Just so you know where I'm coming from. I came to Christ in my early 20's when searching if God existed. With that being said, I will proceed. The doctrine of purgatory cannot be true if another doctrine that we hold even closer to us is true. I believe both doctrines are dogmas in the Roman Catholic Church. There is purgatory, but then there is also The Resurrection of the Saints. Here is the argument : If the resurrection of the saints (also called the 1st resurrection) is true, then purgatory can not be true. Why? : The reason is because the way purgatory reads or is believed throughout history is that it is a sentence or holding place to purge temporal sins before entering heaven or Gods Presence. According to Roman Catholic belief and history there are different amounts of sentences to this temporal punishment. Some long, some short, some ridiculously long etc. Now, Christians die every day. They will die every day all the way up to THAT day. The day Jesus speaks of when he will raise up ALL of those who believe, glorify them in new flesh, and those who are still alive will also be changed and glorified instantly and we will all be re-united with the Lord forever. It is like a family event! It is extremely exciting. We both, RCC and Prot , share in this hope. This is the Great resurrection, also called the FIRST resurrection. These are those who are resurrected to eternal life. Now.....How can all Saints be resurrected ALONG WITH those who have not even died yet and be united with Christ immediately if they A. have not FINISHED their temporal punishment (those who were dead) and or B. have not died or started to serve that purgatory sentence yet? I mean.....those alive in Christ when he comes are not perfect......or are they? If we take the protestant belief that ALL and I mean A L L sin is purged when we trust in Christ then this problem does not exist. BUT.....if we go the route of purgatory then this event simply cannot happen. It is an impossibility. It is only possible if purgatory is not true. While doing a bit more digging, I found that Purgatory is not dogma in the Roman Catholic Church. BUT.....The Resurrection of the Saints is. Therefore you would have to believe in the Dogma over the doctrine. They are not compatible. and if they are not compatible and purgatory is not true, then we must also toss out indulgences, because if purgatory does not exist then indulgences also do not exist and are pointless.

If there was such a place as "purgatory" then Jesus would be as plain about it as He is about Heaven and Hell. The problem is that you don't believe that the death, shed blood , resurrection, and perfect righteousness of Jesus is sufficient enough to make us perfect in the presence of God immediately. What you don't realize is that Holy Spirit changes our hearts here on earth, but we will be forever changed by God Himself in the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:42-44).
