    Red dot and promo powder are right above that on the burn rate chart. Fast powders for up to about 1 1/8th oz loads. Have loaded thousands of rounds in cb-1138 or the old winchester AA red wads(same thing) i load lee 1 oz slugs in ballistic products pt1205 wads with red dot also.

    Love them old stevens. Got an old pre 64 unserialized 16 single stevens that rolls rabbits every time. Paid $30 dollars for it about 30 years ago.

    That wad flaring trick is a dandy. So is the way you load the hull on the scale. I never would have thought of that. I use the powder pan. Your helping me streamline my thinking here. Good stuff Tyler 👍

    I'm new to shotshell reloading and have several manuals from Ballistice Products to learn to reload 000# and No. 4 shot , since that is what I have. Also the Thug Slug. This field is far more advanced than just reloading brass of whatever caliber, and yet, surprisingly easier to accomplish . I have had satisfactory results with AA, Green Dot, Red Dot and Longshot. I've played with 6 and 8 crimp, as well as roll crimps with an overshot card. In other words, all projectiles went down range and I didn't blow my face off. I always seek new ways to reload 12 guage so thats why I subscribed.

    Those 10 ga slugs really are hauling the mail. I'd like to see the results on deer, hogs, and bear. I think it would work like a sledge hammer on 500 pounders just fine.

    Im loving all the 10 gauge content. I got my slug design pretty well finalized. It's based on the original enfield Pritchett bullets from the Civil War era, redesigned as a true hollow base foster style slug Should be right around 2.25 ounces, I have yet to make the mold but that is a project I will undertake in the very near future. My brass shells are ordered, but they are several months out, to be expected for boutique solid brass shotshells, I'm a patient man though, things of quality are worth the wait. I joined the Facebook group like you mentioned in your last video. Some great information there. Was it you that posted the 2.25 or 2.5 ounce birdshot load for 10 gauge? Number 7.5 shot I think. Bet that smokes a clay! If it was you I was wondering if you might do a video on that? While its just a fun clay load, I'm more interested in its potential as a slug load obviously. For my poor man's dangerous game double "rifle" 10 gauge project, lol. Great video as always! The 12 gauge 2 3/4 loads are really nice too, as I would eventually like to load some stuff for my SPAS-12. Thanks for making all of these videos! Be careful and have fun!

      Yeah that was me. I think it was a 3 ounce load honestly. I’m doing a 3 ounce turkey load video, Remington hull tps wad 3 ounces of shot fits perfectly with a fold crimp.

    I just loaded about 440 rounds of #6 birdshot with the AA super handicap. I think i got the bottle for around $30 when I bought it. Can't find it now. Those last couple 10 gauge one hand shots were kinda sketchy lol

    I'm working my way through your video catalog and haven't run across it yet, but do you or have you (on video or not) used the Lee Loadall to just make a run of mass produced loads with just what the loader can provide [powder, the DIY wad and shot]? Just a run of similar shot shells or do you find that the process of making them by hand more exacting and rewarding?

    • @theshotgunscientists
      @theshotgunscientists  Рік тому

      Check out the Winchester AA hulls are awesome video and the 3.5” 12 gauge Lee load all video I used them like normal in those. I do use the press to mass reload game loads in mostly 16 gauge. Occasionally 12 and rarely 20.

    Heavy payloads of #6 is pretty impressive on the pattern board. I patterned a 2 3/4" 1 5/8 ounce #6 Federal Magnum years ago. It literally drenched the turkey target with shot. I know there seems to be a little bit of debate about #6 for turkey these days, but I sure don't know how it could possibly be a bad choice. I think there is a big trend to #5 lately.

    • @theshotgunscientists

      #6 shot is my favorite shot size. Good balance of pellet count and energy. A friend of mine just dropped a turkey at 60 yards this morning with a 2 ounce Nickel plated #6 shot load we did. I recorded a video of the load I’ll be posting soon. It’s tried and true on turkey at about 60 yards.

      @@theshotgunscientists I personally found out years ago that you shouldn't use anything smaller than #6 on red squirrels. I guess the debates range and rage between # 4,5, or 6. Looking at pellet count charts sure shows some stark differences in a payload count. I'm thinking those old 2 3/4" 1 5/8 ounce #6 magnums probably carried the goods better than anything I ever tested. The 1 1/4 ounce and 1 1/2 ounce #5 I tested looked ok on targets, but you could sure see the lack of shot when you switched to #4. May have to really re think what I had been told and thought about #4 shot all those years.

      @@kandllewgalvarole6171 Longshot can push a 1 once slug to well over 1700 fps. Something around 39 grains. It’s not that load unless you’re using it with an 18” barrel. Then it’s like thunder.

      @@kandllewgalvarole6171 for home defense you really kind of want something around 700-1000 fps with pure lead and just hope it won’t over penetrate too badly. I recommend getting titegroup and loading maybe 15 grains of powder and a 1 ounce slug.
