So Hajime created the initial spark, then it was modified into the meme we know now by Kaela, and then Miko added the finishing touch with 'My Soul'.
@@d-culture927 Yes! I’ve been seeing too many people say that Hajime started the “jdon”, but it was just that her accent made “macca’s run” sound like “macca zdon” (since the Japanese pronounce r’s with a tongue flap, which can kinda sound like “dr”, though, for most Japanese speakers, it’s more of a “lr”, but Hajime’s accent is unusual, so…). It’s just that Kaela misheard it as “macca jdon” (understandably, as “j” and “z” can sound very similar, especially to a non-native English speaker), and the rest is history. Notably, Hajime never thought she said “jdon” even as her repeating what she said continuously sounded like “jdon” to the others. She seemed very confused by the whole thing, honestly. (Which makes her easily distinguishable from Miko, who has a hard time understanding her own accent, even. Hajime, though, considers her accent to be intelligible, and is perplexed by others’ confusion.)
I think Hajime did a really good job actually, she obviously doesn't speak any English but she was more or less able to replicate the sounds she heard close enough that you can vaguely understand it
The animation skips over the portion where Kaela and Kobo start cooking with translating Hajime into English and manage a very good job of it... and then JDON.
Kaela's delivery is so impeccable. She speaks the word JDON with such PASSION, and she's just so confident and insistent! It would've never become a thing if not for Kaela's unique brand of trolling. Truly legendary.
And the part where Kaela looks it up during the collab and finds out it's similar to a Hebrew name meaning "God has heard." That really brought the whole thing together.
I remembered getting my stomach hurt laughing when all that 999 IQ decoding by Kaela and Kobo basically gone down in drain when Kobo realised she had to relay the message to ELITE MIKO 😂
The funny thing is that thing they decoded correctly-“Haven’t had brekkie yet,”-was actually passed down by Miko almost perfectly. It was the part they didn’t see a need to decode-“My shout!”-and the part they couldn’t really decide properly-“Might go on a Macca’s run soon,” aka “I got one Macca jdon,”-that Miko screwed up (and the latter was basically her just putting in odd “yeah”s for some reason). She actually did pretty well, considering. Though I am confused by how she got “soru” from “shout”. Mostly, it’s the vowel that perplexes me. How did she go from an “au” sound (how we pronounce “ou” or “ow”) to an “o” sound? Like, the difference between “s” and “sh” is subtle enough, the “u” at the end is just a quirk of Japanese pronunciation that happens when they try to pronounce English words, and Miko’s short tongue could explain how she got from “t” to “r”, but I don’t understand how “au” became “o”. (And, for the record, “soru” is the Engrish pronunciation for “soul”, since the Japanese don’t distinguish between L and R sounds.)
@@SargonsEye The French would actually write R the way Americans pronouce it: as a vowel for some reason. Three, in fact, 'eau'.
