All I knew about A&W until I moved from WV to WI was that they made root beer. Your content is so interesting, calming, and comforting. Thank you for sharing with us.
As someone from WI, I'll say that A&W has the best fast food cheese curds I've ever tried. Dunno if they're only in WI locations or everywhere though since I've never been to an A&W outside of Wisconsin, but yeah. Definitely worth trying.
I had an A&W a couple blocks away from where I grew up. It was the old fashioned type that still had car hops instead of a drive through. Their food was good but you went there for the root beer. Nothing beats fresh root beer from a soda fountain served in an icy mug.
So interesting to see how different the menu is in different countries. A&W in Canada is mostly burgers and chicken…and a decent breakfast American style.
In Canada, A&W is quite popular. It is amusing that almost none of the products you both had would be popular menu items here. In Canada (at least for where I am located), when people think A&W, they think about the burgers (specifically the teen burger) and the frosted-mug root beer. The other stuff is mostly secondary.
I used to work at A&W back in 2020. Fun fact : the chicken we use are from the same manufacturer as McDonald's so basically the only the batter are different.
As an American that has been to A&W locations in the US and Canada, the menu seems completely different with the exception of the root beer and the coney dogs. It shows how much some American chains have to change to local markets' tastes.

So many places that my mother and I would go to are gone. Most Kmart are gone and A&W. We would always have so much fun together and now that she's gone those memories are the most important thing I have left of her. She knew how to have fun!
I didn't know A&W was a fast food brand! I only know them for Root Beer- something I got from our local Oriental supermarket by the caseful. I say got as it wasn't always available and I've now found another brand which is more easily obtainable. Anyway, it was quite the surprise to see that A&W does things like hot dogs and fried chicken, rather than being the producer of soft drinks! It's also the first time I've really heard Mrs. Bacon speak- she has a nice mellow voice!
Sadly A&W fast food places have all but died in the US, they had their hay day in the age of drive through and car hops. A few still exist but many are closing down and they are just dine in.
A&W is still going strong in Canada. They make the best burgers and onion rings! They don't do hotdogs in Canada though. I wish they did because those looked friggin delicious.
A&W reminds me of the good old days when mum would bring us to…the one at Dunearn Rd. Root beer will be served on a tray attached to the to of the car window which was winded down. Miss those days.
Oh her voice is so beautiful. There was an A&W near me growing up. It was one of the last drive-ins. Ice cold root beer in a frosted glass, nothing better on a hot day.

Wow this is a flash from the past. The A&W was never that nice by me in the states but I always loved their floats. Haven't seen one open here in years
For some reason, A&W Root Beer is the last root beer chain restaurant, when there used to be more. Most of the ones here in the U.S. are combination restaurants, so you can get Pizza Hut too, or KFC. I guess they're owned by a parent company that owns them all? Food is burgers and hot dogs and root beer at A&W, I only wish they served waffles!
