- What’s your game of the year 2023? The whole PlayStation Access team gathers to talk about the best games from 2023. Okay, it’s not as glitzy as the Game Awards, but these are the best PlayStation games we played this year.
Picking the game of the year 2023 is no easy task. It feels like we’ve played masterpiece after masterpiece, from the epic RPGs of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Final Fantasy XVI to indie hits of Dredge, Cocoon and Teardown to the frantic horror of Resident Evil 4 and Alan Wake 2. With all those under our belt you can understand the challenge of selecting our 2023 GOTY.

Resident evil 4 remake. It was just fantastic and incredibly replayable
Baldur's Gate 3 without question. There's just so much game in that game, and so much love has gone into the making of it. How could it not be
I think it’s still FF16 for me, I’ve never seen such spectacle from a game before, and I’m usually not one to care about musical scores for games but oh man, FF16’s soundtrack is just… chef kiss 👌🏼

My GOTY is Lies of P. I haven't been so grabbed by a game that I was prepared to play it three whole times to get the plat since Elden Rin. Lies of P is far and away the best Soulslike I've ever played that wasn't made by From. No game has ever come close to matching the Soulsborne formula quite like Lies of P imo. I'm excited for the DLC and a possible sequel hopefully one day!
FF16 followed closely only by Octopath Traveler 2 but BG3 and Alan Wake are also extremely great games
Rob not picking a JRPG has really shook me. Could FF7 Rebirth not be his GOTY for 2024? It's scary to think about.
Baldur's Gate 3 brought back my love for gaming.
My game of the year has to be Lies of P. What a game! I now have the plat, having completed 3 playthroughs and collecting literally everything you can get in the game. The soundtrack... *chef's kiss*
Dave and I usually like similar games, so he's sold me on teardown.
Spider-Man 2 is my GOTY. Lies Of P and Resident Evil 4 Remake are my runner-ups.
for me it's RE4 remake. what a wonderful recreation of one of the best game of all time.
Lies of P absolutely blew my socks off, amazing instalment to the soulslike genre
I'm stuck on the black rabbit brotherhood boss fight but other than that lies of p is good 👍 💯
Every few months I come back to the channel and have a host of great things to watch while working doing chores etc, been a fan for years and looking forward to many more!

Armored Core! had been waiting since the last one- and it's spectacular.
Tears of the Kingdom for me. Had such an amazing time with it.
Baldur’s Gate 3, all the way. I’ve yet to complete it (heck, I don’t think I’ve made it past Act 1 just yet), and that’s because there’s a ton of replay value in this game because there are so many variables at work, from your class, to your background, to what race you’re playing as. It’s a brilliant game and is probably gonna be my GOTY for the next few years, at least.
Personally, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
There have been lots of good games this year, from Trails into Reverie to Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 to Fatal Frame 4, but for me it was Resident Evil 4 Remake. I enjoyed it so much that I finished both platinums back to back and just kept playing. Base game and Seperate Ways combined, I've play WAY over 30 times now and I'm still not tired of it. I also don't feel like playing it again soon, but fatique/dislike hasn't set in either which is a good sign for an amazing game.
I can't believe how fast the fast travel is in Spiderman 2. Not only that, but it is the only game I know that doesn't force you to fast travel to a specific location. You can fast travel to any point in the game's map and at any time!

Mechanicalls, the fast travel in SM2 is really awesome, yeah, but to be honest, i kinda miss the subway-animations from the first game.

yes! I got Teardown after seeing Dave's stream and it's honestly so good, have absolutely loved it!
If I had played more of it it would probably be Baldur’s Gate 3, but I just don’t have the time to be able to play open world RPG’s anymore so it’s between Dead Space Remake and Spiderman 2 and if I had to choose I would go with Dead Space Remake because even though I love Spiderman, I’m an even bigger fan of Sci-fi horror

I had this one for “Best Action/Adventure”….shame it came away with nothing smh AWESOME game from start to finish!

Resident Evil 4 is Best Game Ever Again... One of the best gaming experiences I've had in years.
I'm with Dave. I have PS Plus and don't buy many games outside of that so haven't played the other games, but Teardown was a wonderful surprise. Just blowing stuff up is fun, but clever puzzles in there too. Pretty easy if you just do the minimum for each challenge, but once you try for 100% you need to think outside the box and use all your tools.
Teardown is a bang on choice Dave! Still haven't finished it yet (it's much longer than I thought) but its rocketed up on my own personal list too. It's one of those puzzle games that makes you feel like a mad genius when you manage to accomplish all a level's objectives within the 60 second time limit, and sometimes it comes right down to the wire! It's both thrilling and highly satisfying in equal measure and one of the most unique games I've played in many years.
While I agree it's an amazing game, it released in 2020 so it can't really be a game of the year for this year
Resi 4 remake is definitely my GOTY but I also loved Dead Space remake and I'm really enjoying the Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk. Still gotta play Spiderman 2 and Amnesia: The Bunker though.
Mine will be Yakuza Gaiden, I've played the series since it's main inception and went through all the games, even imported the Japanese versions when I didn't understand them. It was a true masterpiece and also a very emotional one since me and my brother played from the first all the way to Kiwami 2. That was the last game me and him finished and he passed away after it from a heart attack. I'm gonna play every game they release with my son and his kids as a reminder of what we used to do together

2023 is when games were back. I havent played many of the new ones this year. Jedi Survivor im waiting for it to go on game pass. Final Fantasy XVI I loved what I have played so far. Spiderman 2 i suspect will be my 2023 game of the year when i get around to playing it. just need to do Miles game first.

My GOTY for 2023 was Alan Wake 2. That game gave me the feels!

FF16 and P5 Tactica are my GOTYs. Also, Haven (even though it didn't release this year) is my hidden gem of 2023.
It was a close one this year for me... but so much about Jedi Survivor just clicked for me. So it has to take the top spot.
What happened to today's livestream? Has it been rescheduled due to tech problems? I was looking forward to my game of the year being RE 4. ; D

Lots of great games this year. Mine was Dredge for the longest time. But then 3 days before new years, I started Lies of P and that game stole the show for me. I am also excited to play Teardown a bit more in 2024. I even made a video about it, because I couldn’t believe how good and how much fun it was.
Spidey-2 is my GOTY as well (and yes, I too have the Plat on that onel), but absolutely loved Alan Wake II, Dead Space Remake, Metroid Prime Remaster, Jedi: Survivor, Resi 4 Remake and Dredge.
And let's not forget PSVR 2 with Resi Village, Walking Dead Saints and Sinners: Retribution and Synapse. And I've not even played Baldur's Gate 3 yet. What a year!
Edit: And yes, Teardown is amazing. It's really kinda like a Hitman game.
Best game that I have played this year is RE4 remake
Baldur's gate 3 and it's not close it is a game changer since it's inception video game RPGs have been trying to replicate the tabletop experience with the amount of freedom that that entails. This is the first game to ever have gotten this close and it sets new benchmark of what can be done with these types of games. It's just incredible. With a honorable mention to Alan Wake 2 these two games are the two that push the medium forward this year.
For me this really was the year of Metal Gear. (rhyming not intended lol) I played all the main story games within this same year in chronological order of story events. Which means I started with Peace Walker in spring (had already played MGS3 last year, but played it again for good measure when the collection was released in autumn) and am now currently playing MGS4 and will probably still be able to finish it before Christmas. There were other shorter games in between as well but none of them I loved as much. And I also played the Mass Effect trilogy at the beginning of the year - but I can't make Mass Effect my game of the year every year. Lol
When it comes to how much pure (and often flat out chaotic) fun I had with gameplay then my personal game of the year would either be Peace Walker or MGSV - when it comes to which storyline I loved most then MGS3 or MGS4.
For me mgs2 was the real winner. Playing through it this time I absolutely loved it. Everything just clicked and it was probably one of the best things I played this year even though it came out in 2001. Imo it's the best metal gear.
Since I'm a FF fanboy, my goty is FF16. After that, BG3 ... what a game.
Street fighter 6 is also amazing and will be a game i'll no doubt be playing for probably the next couple of years if not longer.

FfXVI followed by BG3. But to be fair: web swinging around New York is The best thing I've done in a game in 2023.
Spiderman 2 has been my favourite of 2023, really enjoyed Armored Core 6 Jedi Survivor aa well
Alan Wake 2 and Burning shores DLC were my favorites this year :-)
Baldur's Gate 3, no doubt
Played Sea of Stars(Still need secret ending), FF16, TotK, Spiderman 2 (Platinum'd), Lies of P (Platinum'd), Super Mario Wonder, Mario RPG and I have to give it to Lies of P. First soulslike I finish and I can confidently say it is the best game I played these last 5 years.
I wish I could have a Bluetooth in my ear at all times and it was just Rob talking about video games!!!!!
My game of the year is RoboCop Rogue City. The legendary Peter Weller returns to voice Robo along with the incredible themes of Basil Poledouris for the music. It makes you feel like Robocop in his world.
My GOTY is FFVI pixel remaster Kupo ❤️ which was released this year

Resident Evil 4 Remake for me. I've put a whole ton of hours into it and I still want to play it.
Have still to play Marvels Spider-Man 2 and Resident Evil 4 so can’t really give a definitive answer yet.
In terms of triple A’s released in 2023 I did manage to play The Dead Space Remake, Forspoken, Star Wars Jedi Survivor and Wo Long Fallen Dynasty. Earned the platinums in all four and really enjoyed all of them.
My favourite indies from 2023 are Dredge and Bramble The Mountain King.
PS. Do the Access Team have any inside info on whether Alan Wake 2 will eventually get a physical release?

I loved BG3, but my personal GOTY is still FFXVI, I will always remember Titan and Bahamuth's fight omg

@@mydogeatspuke Spiderman and Resident Evil are such popular series that even non gamers know them and Baldayrs Gate 3 is thee most talked about game in 2023 so yea again compared to THEM 3 Teardown is absolutely off the beaten track.
Ff16 is my game I enjoyed the most this year followed by my frustration of lies of p.

My favourite two games of the year are both remakes. Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space.
I was playing BG3 in early access back in 2020, and I knew once it was fully released that it would be my game of the year. I only played a little in EA because I wanted to save it. And I was just floored with how incredible it was and how much it had improved upon what I already considered perfection. BG3 is a game I can see myself playing for years, with multiple playthroughs, trying new things time and time again.
For me it is either Spider-Man 2 or FF16. They are both so impressive in different way.
Horizon Forbidden West, because I'm very slow.
The people that don't say baldurs gate 3 just don't get how amazing it is technically and narratively

I had a smile ear to ear from start to finish. Playing as Venom was lit. Just a phenomenal game all round IMO.
After that it’s RE4, FF16 and Forspoken.
In a way because this year has been so stacked I often feel we’ve been spoiled for choice, but that’s a good problem to have.😉

spider man 2 however I need to play Alan wake 2 ........but of all the video games I played so far I think spider man for me is the best.
Just got my ps5 3 days ago (Spider-Man 2 slim bundle). Haven’t really dived too deep into Spider-Man 2, so I’ll give goty to Super Mario wonder, lol. I am impressed with the ps5 this far though.
Resident evil 4 was my number one choice for the first half of the year 😃
My personal GOTY is a tie between Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Resident Evil 4 Remake. I sadly didn't play enough of BG3 to make a decision on.
Wo Long had that Dynasty Warriors lore nostalgia and I was excited to be a Female Guan Yu.
RE4 made me play a game that I refused to play the original. I like how it felt like RE5 with modern controls. Really looking forward to the next remake.

If there was a few less side quests in FFXVI then I would have loved much much more, but the main story is killer.
