    Return of the Jedi - Adding “Noooo!” To Vader defeating Palpatine and ghost Hayden.

      Growing up with the originals I dislike and hate a lot of changes (and welcomed a few as well) BUT this one was just soul-crushing. It's the worst of the worst. Edit: An no, HelloGreedo, it's not gone from the McClunky/Disney/UHD edition.

      The Noooooo!!!! is really stupid but I'm split between Hayden Christensen ghost retcon. On 1 hand, yeah it's stupid that Lucas replaced the face that Like had never seen before. On the other hand, in my personal head canon, I think when Vader sacrificed himself, he is no longer a Sith or a Jedi but instead reverted back to his kind-heart nature of a desert boy and the Force Ghost show the last form of the Jedi, Vader is Hayden again but I still dislike the change.

    Jabba in ANH. It looks like shit and ruins the reveal of Jabba in ROTJ.
    The BEST change however? Probably fixing the Emperor in Empire.

    Worst changes: adding Jabba, putting a beak on the sarlaac pit, Jedi rock
    Changes I like: the emperor in ep 5, Bobas voice, Hayden in return of the Jedi, Windows in cloud city

    The one that bothers me the most is that giant creature walking in front of the frame when Luke and Obi Wan first go to mos eisley. It has nothing to do with canon or characters, it’s just from a film perspective it’s awful and super distracting. Get that shit out of the way

    • @ReluctantWarrior
      @ReluctantWarrior 4 роки тому +4

      Not sure it was intended, but it adds a bit more context to how the sandtroopers surrounded Luke and co. so easily to ask about the droids - the landspeeder had to stop to let the creature by. I agree that having them walk right in front of the frame was annoying though. Could have chosen a better angle.

    My biggest issue with Hayden is the fact that they just used random costume test footage. He didn't even know what it would be used for. It would be better if they at least got him back in, aged him up a bit and let him actually act the scene.

    Traditionally, I would say that the edits to the Han shot first moment in the original version of A New Hope would be my first choice as most disliked film edit. But the Vader “No” comments added to his redemption moment in Return of the Jedi is definitely on an equal level for my most disliked film edit. Great one to start the live stream off with (sorry I missed it).

    Jedi Rocks is the worst, I feel embarrassed and uncomfortable watching it with other people.
    The CGI additions and Jabba in episode 4 are a close second.

    What I like: Everything in Episode 5
    What I hate: Mostly everything in 4 and 6 beside the endings with real ppl in 4 and the replacement of Yub Nub (I'm pretty split with the Hayden change)

  • @Maverick8t88

    Empire Strikes Back. After The Reveal and he’s walking out to his shuttle. The line used to be “Bring my shuttle!” in a voice that said move it before I kill you and your younglings. In the Not So Special Edition, he calmly says “inform my Star Destroyer that I will be arriving shortly” in a voice that sounds like he’s also about to order tea and crumpets and take a nice long bath. Completely disjointed emotionally from the previous scene and doesn’t fit at all. Just a few minutes later, we interrupt a climactic chase scene from Cloud City to show Vader parking said shuttle and disembarking. Ugh, the disruption of the timing is obscene! Thank God for Petr Harmy!

    • @ruudmc

      Completely agree. From the line change to the shuttle landing totally stutters the flow of the final Act. This and Jedi Rocks are the changes that make me long for the originals.

      ruudmc I see you are a man of culture as well! Jedi Rocks literally makes me swallow bile. I’m queasy now just hearing it in my head. Watched my Despecialized Edition ROTJ two nights ago. Max Rebo, Sy Snootles, and the gang just made me so happy in all their original glory. Honestly the Not So Special Editions are probably a big part of the hate that the Prequels got. People were so pissed off by the vandalism inflicted on the OT that all they could do was see flaws in admittedly very flawed films.

      @@Maverick8t88 The warning signs were there for the prequels with the special edition changes. I think someone else commented on the fact they feel embarrassed watching the Jedi Rocks scene if they're watching ROTJ with someone else - I can relate to that! Slightly depressing it's been around for 23 years now when the original only lasted 14 years! So many fans will only be familiar with the updates.

    Victory Celebration. Yeah pretty much that. I always preferred the original unaltered ending.(as I feel it's just better overall, also far less cringe) What's funny is that the new ending to Return Of The Jedi used to be fairly far down on the list for me when it came to terrible changes. Over the years however, I've had to put up with so damn many obnoxious fanbois who've tried to drill into my head that the Victory Celebration version of the ending is superior and that I'm an idiot for liking the original, that I simply can't stomach it anymore. Give me Sabastian Shaw and Yub Nub, fuck Victory Celebration!

    • @RandomStuffGarage619

      See in my opinion I feel like the victory celebration song is more fitting for the end of the saga but the song yub nub makes more sense to be in the scene itself so I always act like the Ewoks are playing yub nub while the movie is playing Victory celebration but I understand the hate for the change

    • @alexpollock6932
      @alexpollock6932 4 роки тому +1

      kayokango I actually prefer the victory celebration music over yub nub but I don’t like all the different prequel planets they put into the scene.

    • @buildup3592
      @buildup3592 4 роки тому +2

      Victory celebration is more appropriate than yubnub. Ewoks are the worst thing in return of the Jedi, the main (and actually good part) is Vader, Luke and Palpatine. Using an Ewok song at the end of the film is horrible decision when it should be a serious song reflecting on the victory and loss and future of their galaxy

    • @ManosApple
      @ManosApple 4 роки тому +1

      Victory Celebration is hilariously over produced. The generic and forgettable melody, the obnoxious child choir, the cartoonish insta-party the entire galaxy throws mere moments after the battle.(how would they all know so damn quickly? And how would they be able to so openly new year's eve it up even on planets that still have the empire being deeply embedded on them?(i.e. Coruscant) The removal of Sabastian Shaw was the crowning achievement of the stupidity. Even VC apologists showed some rare common sense in drawing the line with that particular element. People tend to coddle it but in reality ROTJ's new ending is every bit as bad as the special edition's many other defacements. In some ways it's the worst.

    Han shot first upsets me the most but the Jabba scene is soooooooooo bad. I feel like they could redo that now with some grace, but it didn’t even make sense. They had Han step on Jabba as if Jabba wouldn’t have murdered him right there. Han Shot first.

    Greedo shot
    And what triggers me the most the extra rock where R2 hides
    Nooooo
    Jabba spoiler
    Emperors hologram
    The blurb sound of the Sarlacc
    The animals in Mos Eisley (the only ones I like are the little kangaroos)
    Obi Wans scream to scare the tuskens
    Other than these I like the special editions
    Even Jedi Rocks

    Greedo shooting first is the absolute worst. It’s confusing, looks terrible and softens Han Solo’s edge for the sake of censorship. The painful ROTJ dance is a close second. I also miss the Ewok song, which was a big part of my childhood. Conversely, I’ve never minded Jabba in ANH. It looks terrible, but it’s an interesting experiment born from footage that was shot for the original film. It’s a legit deleted scene that was finished later, not just some random crap Lucas felt like tinkering with twenty years after the fact.

  • @ReluctantWarrior
    @ReluctantWarrior 4 роки тому

    I didn't mind the new effects for the ROTJ dance scene, but they should have kept 'Lapti Nek' and kept some of the extra Max Rebo members on the cutting room floor.
    I agree that 1997 Jabba looked like shit, 2004 Jabba looked better, but really - that scene should have stayed on the cutting room floor. It added nothing, just repeated what was already established in the Greedo scene.
    I don't mind the Hayden force ghost at all, I think both actors work in the part. But I agree the addition of Vader yelling "Nooo!" in the Bluray release was idiotic.
    I wasn't that bit a fan of the addition of the Emperor's screams to the scene of Luke falling into the core of Cloud CIty in ESB in the 1997 SE. But that was nipped in the bud as early as the 2004 special editions.
    Wasn't a fan of the Mike Zeroh character they introduced at the time the sequel trilogy was coming out either. For all the shit Jar Jar got in the prequels, at least he wasn't unbearably annoying, where as you can't say the same about Mike.

      @makutamaster Anakin Skywalker did die as a jedi. scared and broken but redeemed. he was alive as a jedi prior to his death. i dont think someone who gets redeemed ages in reverse 23 years or so. his soul was not destroyed by the dark side only corrupted. his son saw the good and brought him back. The change to the movie was just George Lucas mucking up the movie. i agree with some his changes but not this one the most. Sebastian Shaw portrayal was perfect and no change was needed. George Lucas explanation is flawed in my mind. going back to before falling to the dark side? really...... that makes absolutely no sense. lets say vader survived for years after his turn back to the light. would you have the same opinion? i am interested.

    • @ernestgrass1643
      @ernestgrass1643 4 роки тому

      @makutamaster your right to an extent. its true we are talking about a fantasy story. i wasnt talking about mustafar either. Vaders fall occured prior to going there. but anyway that is beside the point. If you remember the original scene vader was healed he had his hair, arms, legs and obviously his soul. now i think it was only done to have a stronger connection between the prequels. in my mind it is not needed. the connection was already there with his suit, death star and other easter eggs in the movie. now you avoided my question at then of my last statement and i am truely curious on your opinion on it. what if he lived and died years later. would his ghost have "reverted" to hayden ghost? or not? I am actually really enjoying this i dont have to many people around me that love star wars like i do and i cant have these discussions as often as i would like🙂

    • @ernestgrass1643
      @ernestgrass1643 4 роки тому

      @makutamaster i agree. his fall was complete when he vowed to sidious. but his redemption on the death star if you think about it would have cleansed him completely. thus the image of Shaw should have remained.

    • @ernestgrass1643
      @ernestgrass1643 4 роки тому

      @makutamaster i respectfully agree to disagree. do you read the new canon books? the reason i ask is Vader suffered from the memories and thoughts of the Jedi. thus showing the good that his son felt which is showing the jedi was never gone. thus the body of the sith is actually the body of the jedi anakin skywalker.

    • @ernestgrass1643
      @ernestgrass1643 4 роки тому +1

      @makutamaster i agree about the look. but Sebastian Shaw is the original face of Anakin Skywalker. just by virtue of fact and movie order release. I like the prequels but Hayden Christensen to me will never be the redeemed Anakin Skywalker. thats just my opinion. lots of people agree with me and lots of people agree with you. like i said i agree to disagree with you. our disagreement will not diminish our love for the greatest saga to ever grace the silver screen.
