Thing with shmups is that if you try and beat them on 1 credit and optimise them for score, they can easily last you as long in hours as your typical RPG. Saying this as a fan of the genre, I've spent a bit too much money on single releases, but I've never felt short changed. These are games you can jump into for a quick go and that keep on giving.
We need a einhander HD port
The thing with G-Darius, if you fight the bosses without using the capture balls and proper usage of the beam, you are going to be in for a long drawn out battle.
One of my all time favorites of the series! I played this a ton on ps1 when I was a kid!

Its out on ps4 too. I believe if during a boss battle you fire your beam into the bosses beam it speed kills the enemy, makes the battles much shorter.
Pretty much NO ONE understands the Alpha Beam mechanic to the game. It's almost ESSENTIAL to good play as you rack up the multiplier. I've watched around 5 reviews for this game now and they don't seem to get the concept behind the beam battles.
It's actually SUPER frustrating for me to watch!
@@AzrialAlaria It is an essential technique. Whilst shooters can seem simple many have different mechanics and nuance which needs to be perfected in order to get good, many reviewers miss out on lots of gameplay details. Be interesting to see Cotton Boomerang reviews as the mechanics are deep in that game.

Can also get it on PSN. It just seems the physical release is for later, Amazon says "December 31" but I think thats a placeholder so it could change.
Yeah doesnt make sense Switch cart is out on Oct 15, but PS4 disc doesn’t release until end of year on Amazon.
Nice there was a game earlier this year that came out for multiconsole very similar i forget the name though. Love these games.
Am so looking forward to receiving my G Darius game-card and case. I had the first edition and so remember being able the enemies fire-power. Going to opt for the lo-rez option when delivered. Hd thereafter. Due to manufacture unforseen problem the game is slightly delayed in the uk
I was gunna ask about a standalone release of Darius gaiden on switch and PS4 to pay homage to the Saturn release . But I think the Darius cosmic collection has that game on it so , yeah … nice to have g Darius hd and at a way more affordable physical price if you get it off Amazon

I have G-Darius on Taito Legends 2 for the PS2. As much as I've played that one (maybe once), I'm not sure how much use I would have for an HD upgrade.
The Taito Legends 2 version runs WAAAAAAAAY too fast and is not at all arcade accurate. This version is the definitive full-on accurate version of the arcade game!

Wasn't the Darius's gimmick was that it had a double-triple wide screen?
I don't really follow the Darius series, so I wasn't sure if the arcades continued down that path in the arcades and we just get the narrower screen... or if Taito just narrowed the screen for both across the board.
Darius 1 / 2 and Burst all have multiple displays for their arcade versions. Darius Gaiden and G-Darius were never multi display arcade games and ran at the regular 4:3 aspect ratio.
Am I the only one that's kinda weirded out that this HD remaster didn't make the game widescreen, in spite of Darius being famous for it's double-horizontal-screen arcade cabinets?
G-Darius was never multiscreen, it was always 4:3 aspect ratio.
@@AzrialAlaria Yeah, maybe not G-Darius specifically, but I think the HD remaster had a chance to break out of a limitation likely caused by the need to adhere to Playstation spec.
The entire point of this release was to be arcade perfect while uping the resolution. Making it widescreen would require redoing the entire stage and enemy layouts.
The PS1 and PS2 ports had inaccurate slowdown.

Absolutely NONE of these reviewers understand that. I kinda hate watching these reviews over that. It gets annoying that they don't explain a MAJOR part of the gameplay mechanics.

A tip for the bosses to shorten them, when they use their beam attack you should use yours and it'll destroy them. (A dragon ball z style battle of beams will ensue where yours wins) don't just shoot them with normal projectiles.
I do enjoy the Darius games on occasion, great review.
