Big fan of the Darius series. Since the days of pumping quarters into those amazing multi screen cabs and time spent on console releases. Also 1:10 was a prophetic moment of voice over against background visuals for someone that grew up in arcades and wish they were as prolific as yesteryear haha!
Just to let you know that those slowdowns are there deliberately. They are not due to slow hardware. Slowdowns are in many shmups to help you out dodge bullets. And its an important feature to have in a game.
Bro. I just heard one of the songs randomly, im assuming it's the main theme and had me blown away I had to look up where it came from. I'm about to get it on ps4. Never heard of this game before. I'm excited
Man, I'd love if they reissued Ray Crisis on modern console. One of my biggest regrets is selling that classic PS1 game. Especially considering that's its shot up stupidly in price.
M2 aims to port games as accurately as possible to the source material, if the original arcade game has slow down it will be the same in their ports. Many shooters are intended to have slow down anyway and if it is removed the difficulty will usually bust your balls like in Gradius 3 on SNES. This game is brutal and during some moments that slowdown is nice lol.
Darius Gaiden for Saturn/Arcade is a different and earlier game in the series entirely; G Darius is a follow-up that introduced 2.5D visuals to the franchise. Both are good shooters however.
One of the best side shoot em ups ever from the playstation era, which I was proud to have experienced then again I'm that old I started with the Sega Master System 1 lol but I've had C64 as well. The playstation disc was worth some money that's for sure,
Great review John!!! Love this game, one my favorite ps1 games of all time! Have beaten all the routes and bosses back in the day! My favorite feature was the counterattack with the laser beam when suddenly u ll be seeing only your blue laser beam on screen and the controller shakes like an earthquake! This release doesn't offer much but as a big fan I may buy both versions! Love it 😀
G-Darius is my favorite of the series. Im not that great at shooters, and G always seemed to be pretty fair. I also love the capture system. I have it on PS1, so I might wait til I can pick it up for a good price.
@@zackschilling4376 no problem 👍 I noticed John says this at the end of the video but I wasn't sure if you caught that. Also I found the game on Amazon a few days ago but it's only up for preorder with a release date of late Dec.
LOVE the Darius series, my all-time favorite shoot 'em up series. G-Darius was great on PS1, actually one of the easier entries in the franchise. I'll definitely be picking this up. Still waiting for my copy of Darius Extra for the Genesis to ship.
Great vid as always, love the content, but my OCD is kicking in and the reversal of the u and m made me comment and I'll guarantee autocorrect screwed you over lol. Always love a good shmup though!
Dear Mr.Hancock, I love your channel, you have incredible insight, and I would love to see you do a “let’s play”, whilst also hearing you share your collecting/gaming experiences in a “long form” format.
As much as I appreciate the shoot em up genre, this is barely an upgrade over the version that is included on my copy of Taito Legends 2. For a few bucks (like five or less) if it eventually releases on Steam I'd add it to the game collection but otherwise I couldn't justify a purchase.
I'll let you in on a little secret... The Taito Legends 2 version is incorrect as in how it runs. This is the only version that is a full-on replication of the arcade original version of G-Darius. The TL2 version is known for running way WAY too fast. This is why this version is so great! It's running at it's correct speed.
I want to add a gake to my Amazon cart to reach the $35 free shippijg zone. I'm thinking about whether should I get this game, any of Cotton games of Darius Burst.
I pre-ordered it immediately. Mainly because it’s a physical release of a shooter. I don’t actually think it’s that good. I have played it on PS1. I am familiar with it.
$30 for one upscaled 20+ year old game?!? HA! I remember getting G-Darius, along with 38 other titles, for $20 or less in Taito Legends 2 for the PS2. THAT is the proper pricing for retro titles. How far we have fallen since those days, when even a C-tier title at best has an MSRP of $30. Hard pass.
meh, not sure I agree on if you like this era you'll like this statement. it's not a bad shooter, but I still think Radiant Silvergun in it's original form looks and plays better than this. this is a complete misuse of the term remaster. I would go as far as to say false advertising.
Played the PS1 version. Didn't know this for remastered. Thanks for keeping us informed.
This channel is underrated dude.
Darius twin on the SNES is a great game and a good palette cleanser when it comes to shooters compared to r-type
Come for the shmup action, stay for the flying metallic fish
I loove G Darius! My favorite Daius game.
Same!
Favorite game of ALL TIME!!
Use the Alpha Beams to counter the bosses purple Beta beams for MAJOR beam battles!

One of my favorite soundtracks for ANY game, absolutely insane.

I played soooo many hours of G Darius back in the day
Played this game for the first time on my ps1 around 2003, I was like 9 years old, great times
Is that a mini dock for the switch that you have it hooked to? Great video brother.
It is and works great.
Went to pick up my physical copy pre-order, looks like it was pushed back until mid October. Excited none the less!
Yep, physical release date Oct 15th.
@@johnhancockretro Was September 28th when I pre-ordered it 2 months ago :P

I have Darius Gaiden for Saturn, been really wanting to play this one, this Looks awesome!
You have the best Darius.
I've been looking for this game in stores
I played this as Darius gaiden on Sega saturn

Cant wait to play this on my PS4! i also have super nova for SNES! Great games
Sweet! And this being on a physical cartridge for the Switch is great! As I find these kind of games to be perfect to take on the go!
This game is bonkers. Rock hard as well. I was gobsmacked the first time I saw the heavy metal alien fish haha
I got the super Nintendo darius twin a few years ago. One of The only games my wife will play with me it's so weird

Always enjoying your videos.
I´m buying this game on october (physicall switch). I´m from Mexico, that makes it a little harder.
I already have this physical, Darius Cosmic Revelation from strictly limited which also includes another chronicle ex+.
So this version being reviewed here is on that physical collection? Excellent if so

My first experience with the franchise was on SNES with Darius Twin.
I want a thunderforce collection! Physical release of course
Beat Darius 2 on Sega Genesis once, hardest game ever in my opinion.
I got the physical release for PS4 on preorder.
Having ps4 and switch, for what system you recommend getting this for? Thanks for sharing.
Switch for portability. It's great!
I show footage on Switch. I lean towards Switch towards portability.

John could you do a video on Castlevania Advance collection? I know you are big fan of Castlevania.
I know it's controversial but ive always liked G darius more than gaiden.
Same here!
I picked up the collection Darius ex and Darius HD $30
This game is harder without slowdown
It looks ok but an HD remake of a game from that era should be reworked a bit more.
As much as I appreciate the shoot em up genre, this is barely an upgrade over the version that is included on my copy of Taito Legends 2. For a few bucks (like five or less) if it eventually releases on Steam I'd add it to the game collection but otherwise I couldn't justify a purchase.

I'd lovvvvve a new Gradius game, or settle for an HD remake of 5. But ... Konami.

Why do they keep releasing these Shmups everywhere but the PC? Do they hate easy money?
Guess I am going to have to stick to emulators.
Stuck with the 2D versions in 1999. Will continue to do so in 2021. Look extremely bland.
