    I think I enjoy your vids because you have a funny and quirky way of explaining things. I mean this in a good way, it's sort of like stand-up comedy.

      Hi, thank you for your comment. I'm really glad you enjoy my videos. I try to just say things as I think rather than trying to make everything too perfect.

    You are a naturial at doing this Nelle, you make it look easy! Interesting insight into how your life has been affected. Just please don't hit me with a stick..... even when tempted! xx

    Nelle, that was brilliant. Your hearing loss is simply part of who you are, and people worth knowing, will make the effort to know 'you'. Oh and the next time someone asks you about your boyfriend tell them he's a willing piñata. If that doesn’t start a conversation nothing will.

    • @nellefindlay
      @nellefindlay  3 роки тому

      Hi, thank you for your comment. If anyone in this situation is the piñata, it's me. He is pretty good with most weapons. Normally when I start conversations about Will, the first thing I mention is the life sized metal Allosaurus he made as a school project. That's usually an impressive conversation starter and doesn't make it sound like I am abusing him or have a weird fetish.

    I like your sense of humour. 👌 And you do not lisp at all !!! 😜 (streamed it directly to my hearing aids - the thing I love most about my „Resounds“)

      Thank you for your comment. My hearing aids are phonak and have bluetooth too. Even though I can't hear very much, I still like the feature. Soon, with a cochlear implant, I'll be able to stream my cheesy power metal directly into my brain.

    First off I hold my hands up & say it was me that thought you had a lisp! But in my defence I am profoundly deaf so I asked a friend as on her first video I think Nelle said she thought she was starting to get a lisp! I always own up if I say the wrong thing! Plus I hope it's not worried you ☹️
    You should not have to say sorry for being deaf! When your out I expect now you tie your hair back so people see your hearing aids & your sunflower lanyard with I am deaf on it! But not sticking up for those who don't know you but they don't know what hearing loss you have! But once the hearing aids go in people treat you so much differently! Some treat you as if your stupid!
    I hate social gatherings it was my birthday the other week there were 4 adults & two children I could not cope I felt so out of place! I am hopeless at lip reading! So I ended up sitting on my own in the garden! Being profoundly deaf is so lonely at times! It's good you have your hobbies! I say this now I don't think I will be chatting u up anytime soon not only have you a boyfriend but I don't fancy being sliced in to bits with the metal sword I would not see or hear it coming! It must help with your frustration! One point I must make Nelle which I am an expert on your hearing aids should not whistle you have got new earmolds! The first video the earmolds whistled as they did not fit properly! So I would visit the audiologist where you got them & let them hear the whistling,you either need bigger tubing or a better fitting earmolds! I remember you saying it whistled when you laugh!
    I expect it still gets frustrating at times,silly things like going to make a phone call or turn on the music etc! All the things you took for granted! I was told by another you tuber if you let the adverts go through they get a small amount of money! Is it me or does Nelle look like a young Amanda Holden? Ok I am on the DeafBlind spectrum haha! Plus I love your stripped tops! I look forward to the next video! You have 65 subscribers already! And so many views! Yes I do watch the video 2 or 3 times to work out what's going on especially later in the day when my sight & hearing is at its worse!
    One last thing you don't see many blacksmiths these days that's a really skilled job! A dying art plus you must have strength to Wield the sword! 🧡

      Hi, thank you for your comment. Obviously if you haven't heard me before I lost my hearing it would be impossible to tell whether or not my speech has changed as a result of losing my hearing. I'm not bothered about you pointing it out.
      I do have a sunflower lanyard thing but I never put it on because I don't want people to think I'm just trying to get out of wearing a mask.
      Social gatherings are difficult. If I leave because everyone is ignoring me, I always make a point of loudly announcing it. I don't care if it makes me look like a diva.
      I would like to clarify that I am not a murderer and do not attack people with swords (without good reason). Also I would just like to mention that a well made sword is nowhere near a heavy as people seem to think and you don't need to be particularly strong to use it. The balance point should be pretty close to the handle so it's not difficult to control and a longsword weighs around 1 to 1.5 kg. It's less than that for a single handed sword.
      I'm not that bothered about my hearing aids whistling and there is no point getting new earmolds now, especially for my right ear as I will be getting a cochlear implant soon. Maybe after that I will sort out my left ear. The whistling doesn't bother me, and it at least stops other people forgetting I'm there.
      I still listen to music even though I can't hear it that well. My hearing aids have bluetooth so I can stream it directly. I'll be listening to power metal until I die hearing or not!
      I've never been told I look like Amanda Holden before, but I know I have a face that just looks like a lot of people. The most common ones I get are: Brooke Shields, Judy Garland, Emma Stone, and AJ Pritchard (who is a man). I am also regularly told I look like I'm related to my boyfriend/ his mum which is slightly concerning (even though I am 100% sure we are not closely related).
      Will isn't a full-time blacksmith, it's more of a hobby/sideline for him. He works as a welder fabricator and general labourer as his normal job. He's pretty talented at metalwork though and was in the news a few years ago for making a life sized metal Allosaurus skeleton as a school project.

      @@nellefindlay thank you for pointing out all those things it very interesting about the swords! You boyfriend does sound very talented! As for the whistling hearing aids etc I can see what you mean with implant surgery under a month away! So please forgive me if I said the wrong thing I was just trying to help but you have your own way of coping with your hearing loss! But I am glad we are allowed to follow your story! Had another hearing & sight test today it's confirmed without hearing aids my loss is 110db so officially I am profoundly deaf in both ears & my sight even with glasses does not meet driving standards so I have had to hand it back as it's on record I am DeafBlind 😭😭so it's been nice following your journey & you being kind enough to reply! I hope any of my comments did not offend they come from a good place! 💖

    Before I comment on the video I want to thank Nelle for sharing what happened from losing her hearing until now! You can see by the views & her followers her story is very moving & interesting! Most of us watching these video's are hearing aid wearers some are profoundly deaf like me & some are CI users! But if these videos help a few people it will be worth it! Some may decide hey these hearing aids look cool with those earmolds or some may say hey my hearing is as bad as nelle's so maybe I should enquire about seeing If i am a candidate for a CI!
    Nelle is a good candidate because she is young & still has good speech as she has only been deaf since the end of April & got hearing aids almost right away! I love how long each video is & the hard work with the captions! I don't have a clue how to do them! I think they can be auto generated but if you cannot hear what your saying it must be hard to do the captions! I wish I had found these videos a month ago brings back memories to when I had a moderate to severe loss & hearing aids were analogue! Just to slightly hear her voice my phone is turned up full along with my hearing aids! It's worth the bad earache after! 🧡

    Do you hear your HA's whistle? I don't hear mine, and my husband reminds me when they do.

    • @nellefindlay
      @nellefindlay  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, thank you for your comment. Most of the time I don't hear the whistling, but sometimes I do. I'm currently in the hospital after getting a cochlear implant, so I won't be dealing with whistling hearing aids anymore, at least in my right ear.

      One of the worst things about being profoudly deaf is if your earmoulds don't fit properly then they whistle! I have the same sort of earmoulds as Nelle! At the moment I have the most powerful hearing aids the NHS offer! But alas I can only hear a few muffled sounds or words! But with the volume turned up full my aids do whistle! I can't hear them so I get stopped all the time by people trying to be kind & telling me they are whistling! That's why earmoulds have to be a tight fit! Mine need replacing!
      Now Nelle has had one ear implanted she won't get whistling in that ear! She had 20 yrs of normal hearing now it's suddenly gone! Family members & friends try there hardest to help but sometimes they make it worse! Even being profoundly deaf hearing aids do help a tiny bit! But full credit to the NHS for fast tracking Nelle for the CI she has been deaf for around 6 mths so there is a good chance her brain will still remember certain sounds etc unlike those that have been deaf for many years! So I wish u all the best for activation day & beyond! 💜💜

    Every time I record with my phone and post on UA-cam, the video quality turns out bad compared to when I filmed it and I end up deleting it lol
    The video is usually about my hearing aids and hearing loss
    What kind of phone do you have? What settings are you on?
    Hmm I will actually consider mini golf 🤔 it’s just down the road , literally

      Hi, thank you for your comment. My phone is a google pixel 4a and I just use the normal camera settings. I really don't know what I'm doing so I can't really give any advice. If the video quality on my videos is surprisingly good then it really is just luck.
      To be honest, when I'm watching videos I don't really care all that much about the quality, so if I were you I wouldn't worry about it too much.
      I hope you manage to find a way to make videos. I will definitely watch them if you do!
      I hope you enjoy your mini golf.

    Frustration: I would reccomend sports or a punching bag. There are also so many other ways to deal with frustration. It has nothing to do with deafness. Enjoy findig you way.

    • @nellefindlay
      @nellefindlay  3 роки тому

      Hi. Thanks for your comment. Thank you for your suggestions. Punching stuff I'm sure works almost as well as hitting stuff with a sword. I am aware that everyone experiences frustration at some point in their life. I think it's just part of the human experience. For me though, I have never been as frustrated as I am when everyone is talking and I can't understand anything because I'm deaf. Thank you so much for your well wishes.
