- Tune in as I inspect my Apimaye bee hives that I haven't bothered in 2 months. At last inspection one of the colonies was queen-less, is that resolved now? Then we take a quick look in my 7 framer. ⭐Apimaye USA: apimayeusa.com?sca_ref=1691588.ER1t0q4BQU

Interesting leaving the supports in. Seems logical.
Made since to me.
I tell you, like you, I’m super impressed with Apimaye products. Every detail was thought of. Colonies look like they’re moving in the right direction.
Very Nice!
628 dirtrooster bees sent me over to your channel. I'm sorry for what happened to you but i know God will bless you and take care of you. You have a great channel and i am also from OHIO. Steubenville ohio is were we live. God bless you my brother.
I really like those hives. I have 9 hives currently but after 2k pounds I need a food manufacturers permit so I am tempted to learn about making nucs and selling them once I master it. So right now just building up my hives and setting up resource colonies if something happens. I am a veteran so I tend to get bored prior to bees so they seem to help me a lot as well. I enjoy watching them so much they are like my pets.
Making nucs is not hard it just takes practice. I only sell a little honey, my main income from the bees is selling nucs and queens. Best of luck on your beekeeping journey.
@@JCsBees Like anything else takes practice and research. I really like the bees and I find them interesting.
@@JCsBees my 8 hives turned to 30. I think that's a good base to start queen grafting. I have about 15 apimaye nucs and 1 experimental full hive with divided board and entrance like then nucs.
@mathgasm8484 Awesome job! Sounds like you growing fast! Best of luck overwintering them.
@@JCsBees I am in south Texas so winter is like a month.
looking good JC. I have about 20 of these with the wooden box set up. I love them
That's awesome!
I live in Michigan and run 50 to 60 hives. I do like the apimae because they don't rot like wood boxes. However, I haven't had the best success overwintering my bees in them. Even when I used 2 inch insulation on the top instead of their ventilated cover and put feed directly on frames instead of in their feeders. I seem to have a lot better success with polystyrene hives.
Awesome! I about to go through mine but they already look strong from the outside, a bit pissy though because of the dearth.
My Apimaye hives were a little aggressive last inspection. Since the rain has increased the flow and they have calmed down. Best of luck to you with your bees!
I'm interested in how well the undertakers are going to do with the entrance holes. I have 6 holes and beginning to see some caught up. Love the bottom system for upgrade so far. Ty for the demonstration of it Jason.
That's a very good point. It will be interesting to see how many dead bees are left inside the entrance. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi Jason mate, yep your apimaye hives are all looking good, I only have one apimaye hive just to see how the bees take to it and I’ve got to say my one is pretty similar to yours I also have some wonky comb especially on the bottom of the frames, I haven’t used the plastic frames yet so I’m thinking it might be the spacers are a little on the wide side and they have just a touch more room between each frame I’m like yourself mate too late in the season too start ripping wonky comb especially as mine are full of worker brood. Thank you for sharing your vlog with us Jason mate, seeing your apimaye hives doing well has given me some thinking to do about investing in some more of these hives.
I am using Apimaye brood boxes with wooden supers. I think I am going to force them down to a single deep for winter. I stopped using the spacers, there seemed to be a lot of cross comb when I had the spacer installed. Thanks for the video!
Do you commonly winter in single deeps? I am going to let the Ergo kit keep their top box but the others will be single boxes over winter.
@@JCsBees I am still relatively new, so no “typically”, but I did last winter in my wooden hive and they did well. Apimaye hives are new this year. I fed heavily late fall and gave them fondant over winter. Insulated outer cover also.
Hey JC, long time since last I commented. Anyway, I'm considering trying the Apimaye hives up here in the far NW MINNESOTA climate. Please continue your seasons review on this system, taking into winter prep and the following springs results. I've not found anyone yet in the far north reviewing this hive system, so I'll continue checking on your progress. Thanks -Bill
Hey Bill, It has been a long time since I heard from you, you should stop in every once and awhile and say hey so I know your still following. Good to see ya here! I plan to continue the Apimaye reviewing videos, no worries there. So far I am very happy with them. That said, I don't think I am gonna risk using their feeders for dry sugar, I've seen other feeders like that and the bees have a hard time making it back to cluster when it's cold. I'll probably make a shim to add the mountain camp method and maybe some Hive Alive fondant, the bees love that stuff last winter.
I like how the camera caught the bee flying at it . Enjoy the videos
I noticed that too. Pretty cool!
👍👍
I don’t wax my foundation, just feed them 3-1 water/sugar. They will drink it no problem, I also put a tub of water off in the corner of the yard with a couple of drops of lemongrass oil.
Hi Jason
I’m 20 minutes south of Columbus Ohio. We’re getting goldenrod here. I was wondering if you were to?
I actually just noticed golden rod blooming at the end of my drive.
interested in seeing every plastic bar spaced onto one frame just from 10 frames look like it might be a 9 frame box.
💕👍
Hello. Do you leave on the bottom tray for winter or leave the bottom ventilated?
Thx
I go fully vented. Helps the bees push out the moisture in the hives. I also provide an upper entrance.
Just want buy4 of the feeder caps. Loss brok 2. I like the feeders
Difficult to get those here. Need to import them from France I think it was. Looks good anyway. I'm not going for honey this year as I did before because I the strange weather we had so far.
With not taking honey to bottle will you have less feeding to do before winter?
What are the dimensions for the wood hive upgrade kit bottom board feet on center (front and side)?
Just did the exact opposite!! I have had Apimaye for a couple of years and now am trying some Hoover wooden ware. Also thinking of try out some Ross Rounds.
I hope you like the Hoover boxes as much as me. I am excited to try my new deep round frames.
Hi Jason, love your show. I have Apimay hives and was wondering how you would feed the bees with Fondant in the plastic bag with the top they supplied or replace it with a wood one with a hole in the center. Your opinion please. Thanks, Dan from Canada
Hey Dan, The Apimaye feeders are setup where you could feed section of fondant but I will probably remove feeders completely and add one of my 2" feeding shims. Hope that helps.
@@JCsBees It sure does help Jason thank you very much for taking the time to answer this
How did they do last winter?
Not sure if you can recharge gopros while they are recording. I use an Akaso V50 pro for recording my fishing trips. I drilled into the side of the waterproof casing so I could insert the usb charging cable and then hot glued around the hole. I then charge it using a small power bank in a sealed container running the cable through a gland. I can record a little over 8 hours of 1080p footage. Audio isn't great but is fine for syncing up audio from a lapel mic. If you don't use the waterproof casing the audio will be much better but not as good as a good mic. Hope that helps.
You can charge GoPro when it's recording. At least the one I have does it.
Yes it would be possible to record while charging, the issue is the camera gets hot so charging would only cause more issues I am afraid. If I lower the video quality then it does fine but I didn't buy a go pro to have crappy video quality. lol
Ah living in Ireland, overheating is not a problem we have 😄

My smoker has a metal ring under the burner chamber.
Mine does too but still it's risky to sit it on the plastic hives.
