The Reorganized LDS now called Community of Christ in Independence Mo came 'clean' on the historical data losing a number of members in the 1970's and since then recognizing the LGBT community in keeping with science as well as never having disrespected the 'black' membership. I was raised in pre-mormonism (RLDS) and left many many years ago. There are more than 60 religious groups in America today having split off from the mainstream faith but continuing to use the B of Mormon as scripture! It goes on and on .... concubinage, polygamy, polyandry, the Boggs assassination, governmental treason! For the most part, people don't realize that Mormonism is Not Christian! Do research into the history from 1825 onward up until the present! I have been there. You likely have looked only into the present spoken words from the hierarchy. Every president somewhat discounts the words from the previous presidents not to mention hiding the history of the 'wrinkles' from the past! Although they claim upwards of 14 million membership in actuality there are only somewhere between 3 to 5 million that are active! There are more than 60 religious groups in America today having split off from the mainstream faith but continuing to use the B of Mormon as scripture!

Do research into the history from 1825 onward up until the present! I have been there. You likely have looked only into the present spoken words from the hierarchy. Every president somewhat discounts the words from the previous presidents not to mention hiding the history of the 'wrinkles' from the past! Although they claim upwards of 14 million membership in actuality there are only somewhere between 3 to 5 million that are active! I repeat, the mormons themselves are amazingly dedicated and principled peoples. It is long past time for the hierarchy to be truthful of the continuing deceits of the past. Why then, if they believe in modern & ongoing revelation, why is their Doctrine & Covenants not being added to for many many years. The RLDS (now called Community of Christ) have added revelations regularly !?

Man he tanked that answer big time! What about the woman? His answer " I love them" then he starts talking about his daughters ....then says we have woman in lower positions but no mention about putting them in the higher roles. The answer to the place of woman....they are the source of mans strength...but I guess not good enough that they could fulfill the higher roles. Something has to change!!!!!!

Gay teen suicide is 5 times higher in Utah than the national average among gays. The church is creating this environment and is not addressing the issue...nor acknowledging that there even is a problem.
LGBT suicide rates are much higher than heterosexual rates everywhere in the world. What does the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have to do with that problem and more importantly what does President Russell M. Nelson have to do with that problem? The only thing we can do is express our love for them. If you are implying that the Church should change God's commandments on what is sin, we as mortals are unable to do that.
Utah's youth ages 11 to 17 are dying at their own hands at the three times the rate recorded less than 10 years ago, in 2007.

It's not difficult to see the pressure the church puts on it's LGBT members to confirm to cultural standards. These youth get caught between wanting to conform to the church's teachings and maintain relationships with their friends and family.
This is why the first question during this press conference was concerning the church's relationship with their LGBT members. It is a problem that Russell M. Nelson could help alleviate, as the LDS Church President can help change the culture both within the church as well as within the state of Utah.

These are not cultural standards. These are standards based on commandments and doctrine that cannot be changed.
And I think this is where we arrive to an impasse in our discussion.
