    Unfortunately, Sqaure Enix did in fact meddle with Deus Ex Mankind Divided (and every other game theyve published within the past few years, I.e. Hitman and Just Cause 3). It was one of the executives of Square's HQ in London that told the development team that they had to make the awful Breach mode, shove Microtransactions in, break the ending to be a part of the 3rd part of this "trilogy", and to be sure to cut out as much content as possible to shove into DLC packs... #FuckSquareEnix

      +Timothy Lai Honestly, as much as I enjoyed the game, I don't think it deserved any GOTY award (unlike its predecessor, which like the vids author I also see as one of the best of its generation), and I'm actually relieved it didn't earn one because it would have been clear overrating.
      Even though it is pretty decent and well done in most aspects, it feels very rushed and incomplete in others, and for those flaws I think it ends as just an average 7.5 or 8/10 game and not a 9 to 10/10 gem.

    8:11 To be fair, MGS4 used a lot of motion capture and some very talented stuntmen. It really paid off in the long run, but for games like Deus Ex it's usually cheaper to just animate cutscenes traditionally.

    Serif VA refused to come back, they begged him to come back but he didn't wanted because if the stigma that fruit flies video gave him, he wasn't replaced or kicked out, that fruit flies video was him acting, there's an interview of him where this is revealed and goes into full detail of what exactly happened.
    he's perfectly sane and healthy and it also points out that if they didn't want to give him a job because if that fruit flies video, a Canadian law would've gotten the developers/publisher in trouble.
    I can't find the article right now but I'm sure if you're interested enough you'll check it out.

      True, but only the very end of the Ending is like that :) As a whole, the story of Deus Ex Human Revolution is well developped and complete and even if Mankind Divided didn't exist, it would be enough to explain why in JC Denton's era they are so few mechanical augmented characters. When it comes to Deus Ex's story (as a whole), Mankind Divided isn't as essential as Human Revolution is.

    Deus Ex Mankind Divided should have been a fantastic sequel but instead it's merely a decent one; the refinements to gameplay, the excellent level design and the continuing freedom of choice in tackling missions, in terms of fun factor it's all there. But sadly Square Enix got their nasty little claws into the developer and demanded that...
    A. The game's story be cut off abruptly for the purposes of selling DLC and a potential third game.
    B. Extra modes like Breach be added to work in further plans for DLC and microtransactions where more time could have been spent on the game's main campaign mode.
    C. Horrid single use microtransactions be thrown in a mere two weeks before release and then cover it all up for reviewers. Jim Sterling did a really detailed analysis of this in his Jimquisition episode: "How Square Enix kept meddling with Mankind Divided"

      most people with augs weren't rich though. it was being forced onto regular people for them to be more competitive in the job market. i don't know how people missed this in the previous games. you see shit ton of ghettos and homeless people who are augmented in the games. Pretty much similar to people in the real world living life beyond their means.

    • @Tamacat388
      @Tamacat388 8 років тому +13

      Why would they? MGS bosses are amazing and often times incorporate stealth. Some of them are ass especially in 4 I don't get why Brit loves the worst games in the franchise but otherwise the bosses are great.

    • @ThePreciseClimber
      @ThePreciseClimber 8 років тому +4

      Why would they? Because it's a STEALTH GAME! Action shit doesn't belong in a stealth game. Before MGS4 they didn't even have decent controls, so it's a double no-no.
      But if it's okay, then all the people complaining about forced combat in games like Human Revolution or Splinter Cell Blacklist have no merit.
      I think the former rings true.

    • @ankou000
      @ankou000 8 років тому +8

      Previous MGS games had controls that worked just fine. You can make a point about the original's lack of aiming in first-person, but the game was built around that limitation, which was proven by Twin Snakes being far, far easier when they added that mechanic in. You never needed to have fine aiming while moving, so it wasn't a priority to add it in.
      Second, the MGS series is not an RPG. There's no expected illusion of control over the game. You can't build Snake to be a master hacker, because there's no character building. You are Snake, who is sneaky and shoots things; at the end of the game, you're playing Snake, who is sneaky and shoot things. Meanwhile, the Deus Ex series allows you to specialize in combat, hacking, or breathing underwater, and it is very disappointing to people to run into a series of bosses that forces them to play counteractively to how they've been building their character the entire time. That's the difference between the two series, and why it's not applicable to say that the two are identical because they both have forced boss fights.
      Third..."Action shit doesn't belong in a stealth game?" The MGS series tagline is "Tactical Espionage Action."

    • @FrMZTsarmiral
      @FrMZTsarmiral 8 років тому +3

      I kinda agree. Most boss fights in MGS 1 and 2 rely on gimmicks or are action challenges with no stealth involved aside from Vulcan Raven, some of them are actually a bit obnoxious specially when you want a stealth challenge but the game presents an action-oriented challenge that has little to do with the core stealth mechanics. You can have boss fights in a stealth title if they're designed in a similar way to MGS 3 in where most of the time most of the core mechanics were useful in one way or another and tactical approaches were encouraged over just shooting the enemy. Compare the encounter with the Ocelot Unit in MGS3 compared to the shooting gallery that is the encounter with the Russian Mercenaries at the end of the Tanker chapter in mgs2.

    • @FrMZTsarmiral
      @FrMZTsarmiral 8 років тому +1

      I think some of the boss fights in 4 were better than most in MGS 1 since those were too basic and stealth was not an option. But they were pretty mediocre when compared to the boss fights in 3 which combined the critical thinking and mastery of the combat mechanics used in a few of the boss fights in 2 but also had plenty of room for stealth tactics and some use for almost every mechanics int the game.

    This game got such a bad wrap because of the idiots complaining about optional microtransactions that don't even impact the game at all and because of it we may not get another Deus Ex game for a long time. I don't buy the idea that Adam Jensen HAS to have no real choices because it's a prequel to Deus Ex 1.
    Really, the only bit of lore MD needed to heed was that mechanical augmentation was basically gone save for VERY few examples (the only civilian we see retaining her augments did say that she was former military).
    Hell, the fact that Adam was resurrected after being declared essentially KIA could have allowed him to act however.

    I think the reason they put they "pay with real money" extras in these games is because they see that it works with mobile games, so they somehow think that if they put that into a console/PC game then they will get the same amount of extra money. Though I don't really see why it really is all that necessary as console/PC and mobile are completely different markets; people play mobile for games they can quickly play and switch between while console/PC games are meant to have more time invested in them.

    I know this comment is a year late but I figured it's worth mentioning anyway.
    I just wanted to answer why companies use the BINK video compression pre-rendered movies over in-game cinematics. Sometimes there are certain special effects and graphics that cannot be done via the in-game engine. If you ever see a cross dissolve in a video game, that's definitely going to be a prerendered movie as no game engine (currently) has the capability to do a cross dissolve. So if there is a specific effect the engine is not capable of, those will be replaced with prerendered movies.

    Boss fights have never fit Deus Ex, ever. The smaller, more focused story of Mankind Divided could really only warrant one boss fight, without other bosses feeling forced in just to please MGS and Dishonored fans. There's no good reason for them to be there, it's a spy game first-and-foremost, not a commando game. Having boss fights constantly injected into the game undermines the idea of being a highly-effective spy, hence why I think MGS fails. If MGS actually gave you choice on fighting the bosses, then I'd enjoy it slightly more as a stealth game.

      "Square Enix's greed tactics"
      well they did make a Final Fantasy mobile game called All The Bravest, that was deliberately designed to force people to pay real money not only to revive characters immediately rather than wait a day or so but also for new characters, and most of the time you would end up with characters you already had rather than ones you didn't already have...
      Also they made a Final Fantasy mobile game that was basically a collection of the big boss battles from their older entries... you know what you might wanna add *SQUARE ENIX's nostalgia leeching tactics* to the list of things to not support.

Wait for about 7 years for XV, and enjoy that 15-20fps release. I love Eidos games, but I didn't buy the butchered Hitman, & I won't be buying this till it's in the bargain bin. I'll get the Hitman physical release next year, I'm just glad it'snot my wallet SqE is zapping.

    I almost skipped Human Revolution because it was a last gen title. Glad I didn't. I guess you have a point that there was less choice in MD, but I didn't really notice because the terrorists seemed not really likeable and from everything in Adam's history suggests he wouldn't become a terrorist.
    A big criticism of MD was that it didn't have an epic, worldwide, global conspiracy type story like HR, but I can overlook that too.

    DE:MD recommends 16gb ram, and apparantly it has a really big effect on performance (and maybe load times?) if you don't have it. Just f.y.i, I didn't install it on an SSD and the train takes about 30-60 sec for me (really long still, but not 5 min), and the only difference I can think of is that I have more ram and my ram is ddr4.

I had FPS issues, I had those huge loading times...and other crap and I just gave up. Well yes, this was a video uploaded in 2016, and Charlie admitted both on the video and by showing his PC specs (which are dated as you can see) that he didn't had an SSD installed at the time and was baffled by how things are otherwise

  • @HonestPhil
    @HonestPhil 8 років тому +2

    9:08 my loading times were completely fine, however I used my SSD drive for that. (20 seconds max)
    Running an SSD is pretty much standard by now isn't it? Those things are much cheaper than they used to be. Owning one for your OS & some extra programs shouldn't be too hard to come by.
    Edit: oh, you don't want a comment about that? WELL, I already wrote it so...

    • @Openyoureyesify
      @Openyoureyesify 8 років тому

      +Honest Phil I installed on my regular hard drive and the loading times were fine. Quick load is around 3 seconds, a load from abit further back is maybe 10 seconds. The only time that the loading is crazy is when you take the train between stations or when you load your latest save for after starting the game.

  • @ChiefExecutiveOrbiter

    • @Heartbeat0N
      @Heartbeat0N 7 років тому

      You can have a regular prosthesis that will cost virtually nothing in the future where robotic limbs exist. And the amount of poor augs in that game doesn't make any statistical sense unless most of them self inflicted cripples.
      Adam's case has nothing to do with it. He was intentionally subjected to as much augmentation as possible, because Sarif knew that he can take it.
