- Recorded in Sydney, Australia on 3rd March 2008. 'White Winos' is from Loudon's 2001 album 'Last Man on Earth'. 'Middle of the Night ' is from Loudon's 2010 album ' 10 Songs for the New Depression'. Check them out.
Just an amazing song. Friend of mine who used to be an alcoholic told me she puts this on whenever she is feeling tempted, helps her out.
A fine mother's day song. One of my favorite Loudon pieces.
He has a great talent for capturing a mood , telling a story - White Winos is like a movie in song form.
this really strikes a chord in me. such a poignant representation of a broken home.
I guess that's the beauty of art. It's open to interpretation!
I just listened to this beautiful/haunting tune for the umpteenth time and realized that it might actually be about "blurring" the lines between close parent/child relationships and is rather Oedipal. "Thank God we stuck with white wine and we stayed away from..." Interesting.
Totally.
OH OH, I wish I'd been there . just 10 years too late :( But fantastic to see it here anyway
Wonderful song and performance.
Loudon's songs often have a tongue-in-cheek Freudian bent. Another song from this album (Last Man on Earth), "Surviving Twin," references wanting to "kill" his father. In the liner notes for the 40 Odd Years compilation set I think he mentions his friends telling him his mom was hot all the time when he was younger. So, I think there's something to it.
thank you homelessbrother. like to know a bit about this singer.
He didn't bee keep like Mr. Holmes. Lowdown did White Winos for his encore 1/22/15 at the Apple Room NYC.
anyone got "Date Line" to upload? It's from the same concert as this..

I've heard many times that this song is meant to be Oedipal - I don't see it - I don't think that was his intention at all- I think his mother was his best friend - am I wrong or isn't that what his song 'Homeless' is about?
It literally is about Oedipal. He even talks about it in father and son, which is connected to this song, and why he wanted to kill his dad and be with his mom sexually. Man you guys do not listen to loudon very much.
