    i was 16 years old and at this concert. it was my 3rd of 4 times seeing elvis live. (astrodome 1970, astrodome 1974, and shreveport 1975 being the other times) and i can tell everyone, EVERYONE in the building had the time of our lives. INCLUDING elvis.

    I like Elvis but his fans are the most delusional bunch I’ve ever heard. Elvis is clearly, CLEARLY on some type of “downer” drug here. All the talent in the world can’t beat drug addiction and it doesn’t do Elvis any favors by turning him into this mythological, perfect figure. Elvis was all too human like the rest of us and many people get addicted to substances. It’s nothing to be ashamed about and help is available for those wanting it. For whatever reason Elvis was never able to find it.

      He should have never been touring under the condition he was at this time. Dr. Nick told Parker that he needs to be put in a detox facility but Parker demanded that Elvis complete his touring contracts he had to pay his gambling debts. Both him and Vernon caved into Parker's court threats if Elvis fired him. Parker should have been fired in 1975.

    I have his May 9, 1976 Tahoe show on tape& its the last Tahoe show he did. The show is very long, but he sounds incoherent throughout the entire show. He's obviously drugged, and I'm not someone who blames everything he does on drugs, but he's obviously loaded during his last Tahoe show

    I love him regardless. He was so worn out by this time. He really pushed himself way too hard there at the end. In retrospect I am sure many of those that loved him wished they had of been able to get him to notice!!

    This is a poor show for sure, but the worst I have ever heard Elvis was on his June 6th, 1976 concert in Atlanta. Find the cd "Big Boss Man In Trouble" and you will be shocked at how bad he sounds. College Park on September 27 and 28, 1974 are bad too. From what I've heard, I'd say this show is ever so slightly better than those.

    YES,I AGREE:THE CONCERT ISNT AS BAD AS THE THEY TRIED TO MAKE OUT!-elvis' voice was very slow in parts and he sounded very 'tired'..some have tried to say that he was on DRUGS but I don't accept this, I just feel he was tired and it was a bad day for him..Thanks for your 'feedback',its a good discussion.

    Elvis should not have been touring in this condition, let alone doing two shows a day. This was his normal sleep time and that's where he should have been.

    I just listened to the complete CD and while he talks slower than normal, he actually enunciates his words better than on several other occasions. The crowd responds with approval at each note he sings. He has some tough moments, but overall the show is decent. He does an excellent job on "America, The Beautiful" and sounds good on several other tracks. The biggest drawbacks are that as follows: He talks to the fans in the front too much and the introductions last too long.

    Awesome, I don't hear anything at all that makes this the "worst" concert of Elvis' career, only that he is more tired than usual, but he is allowed to be human and suffer from tiredness once in a while right?! By the way, Elvis' "worst is better than most entertainers best!!!!! You summed up this concert very well sir!!

    I have this show also and i love it. For an official CD, the sound is very good almost the same as the FTD soundboard releases.

    “This was his worst”? But it actually isn’t that bad. 😢 you can tell he’s not healthy but he’s giving it his all 😭 he should have been in some recovery program not the colonels cash cow.

    I agree the sound is incredible; even from the small portion I heard on a sample it is pristene and as a historian and completist of Elvis I will have to locate this show! I live in Texas and am searching for about 6 more shows to complete my 70s Texas collection

    They are slowing it down. Seems like i did see this concert and yeah when he did the song hurt he laid down but that doesnt mean he was doing bad.

    I was there. He had just woken up an hour before. It was a 2pm..Afternoon show on a Saturday. He even said why are y'all up so early? He got more into the groove at the end when he was more awake. Drove straight to Hobby Airport at the end and saw the Lisa Marie taxi away from the hangar and take off going to Alabama for a Sunday show. Its there where he was told about the Elvis What Happened book that was coming out.

    The sound is fantastic the highlights here sound good but the overall concert is the worst I've heard. That said Elvis had very high standards even through his problems he still put in some incredible performances but this one you can tell from his voice that hes struggling. The thing to remember from this period in 76 is that Elvis was being seen by a different doctor who was pumping with him with drugs so strong they nearly killed him a year before he went. The Col stepped in and they had to get back Dr Nick back..they'd fallen out with Elvis over the Raquetballs debarkle apparently How bad was the doctor that they had to get Dr. Nick back?! Elvis got his mojo back later in 76 but it was all too late. I think that doctor did so much internal damage to Elvis system that he never recovered fully.

    Certainly a problem in Houston; mainly in the recording I suggest. Please check out my collection (you tube vid) and see if there's anything you may want to swap?!

    Bad show, but in my humble opinion not worse than Hampton Roads one month before. The question is easy. Elvis, in summer 1976, should have not been performing on stage, he should have been in a hospital. I love Elvis so much.

    Screaming 'uncritical' fans aside, Reviews from a few dozen fans who were there showed they witnessed a painful and sad event. Same for newspaper reviews, knowing that Bob Claypool was an Elvis fan! There were reports of fans walking out halfway. Elvis band and staff were puzzled and management tried to solve things with the Houston police and Dr Nick was flown in to handle Elvis medication use. There a few decent tracks on the cd but in general he's not able to talk and sing at all. That's why.

  • @EncyclopediaDukeBrando
    @EncyclopediaDukeBrando 11 років тому

    I have a few friends who were in attendance that night; and yes he was off kilter....... most around them were puzzled by the performance; and according to the documented reports even the police were stunned by the show; so much that Col. Parker got Elvis the hell out of Houston; but I actually heard the San Antonio show from this period was just as bad if not worse

  • @cortezibanez3890
    @cortezibanez3890 11 років тому

    We have a few dozen fan reports and the reaction from the fans was shocking and heartbreaking. The recording supports that. He can't even keep up with the band or articulate well. That doesn't mean there are no nice moments though. But I can't think of any other show with Elvis in this bad shape. Still the King though...

    Yes he sounds bad here, but I still think his June 6th, 1976 concert in Atlanta has to be the worst I've ever heard him sound. He sounds almost good here in comparison! Has anyone else ever heard that show? The import cd is called "Big Boss Man In Trouble."

    It sounds pretty much like all his post-1972 shows. The setlist never really changed and he was obviously doing these shows in his sleep, induced or otherwise. The famous Hawaii telecast in '73 was pretty lethargic as well. Elvis seemed stoned out of his mind during the satellite show, he only looked better because of the punishing diet. Problem always was, Colonel and Elvis looked at his career as simply a money-making machine. When they found a formula that worked, they kept pulling that handle and collecting the coins. An artist needs a challenge, like Elvis with the '68 Comeback Special. This maxim applies with Elvis fans: "When you're famous, you can give the people anything."
