Excellent video. I had the same problem on my K series triple chime Keininger. Moon phase did not work, took the face off, noticed there was a gear missing on the same axle that the hour and minute hand mounts to. Ordered the part (moon phase pinion), installed it....and it worked. Went on with a set screw. Not difficult at all once I realized the issue. Another piece of advice I have for folks is to make sure your clock has the correct chains installed if you buy a used one. I had one weight slipping ever so often and it turned out to be a chain that had too many links per foot. I offer this advice because no one I asked knew what the issue was when I described it's behavior. Seems simple, but to a novice it was a challenge. Again good video! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for showing this David, I look forward to seeing you work on this. When I researched adding a moon phase to my Erector Grandfather clock I discovered that there's another way ( at least) to represent moon phase on a clock which is a rotating ball with half white and half black. I opted for this setup as it fit best with the overall drive train setup that I built for my clock.
Nice dog David I've met him before. Very interesting. The moon I mean I imagined the teeth on the moon wheel runs of the ah you're explaining it. I've been doing this work on clocks and watches for 30 odd odd years. I'll keep up with you David
Thank you for this. I have 2 moon phase grandfather clocks and neither date nor moon phase discs are working and looking down the side of the movement, it would appear that I have the same problem as you. I think it must be a common problem. Thanks for sharing. I don’t have the capability of making a gear so I guess no moon and no dates from now on. Out of interest, the face blank is exactly the same as mine although the decoration is different. So I imagine there was a forum somewhere churning these out and the clockmaker then did the decoration and the numbers et cetera.
Hello James, thanks for the kind comments. Apparently the mechanism did cause problems and it was often removed. Mine works fine at the moment but I could believe that dirt and grime could build up and stop it and to remove the wheels was a cheaper solution than cleaning the clock .
Thanks for wasting my time with the dogs pics to extend the length of your videos. Also, watching you explain the moon dial as it turned was another good waste of my time. Thank goodness for 2x speed and fast-forwarding.
Hee hee,, the dog is more popular than me but I guess I have to live with that! Thanks anyways for watching, hopefully the next video will be more to your liking.

Well done you! That's what I like about clock restoration and repair, every clock is different and has its own challenges to overcome.
Beautiful clock, beautiful dog, and beautiful beach, reminds me of childhood, 🎉🎉 greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank you, please send us some good weather
Very interesting vid. I learned a lot about how the moon dial works and how different clocks have different mechanisms. Great vid, TYFP!
Thanks for your kind comments

I'm interested in your moon mechanism, it sounds the way I would like to go when I start to build my own longcase clocks
Enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing 👍 🇬🇧
I appreciate your kind words. Thank you!
Great video David, thank you. Oh, and greeting from Bridgton Maine USA
Glad you enjoyed it

Thanks for watching, the final video is now being edited and will be out soon.
You skipped the part of removing it from the wooden clock. I ask because I had a hard time.
I realise that now and appreciate the problems! As it happens, my next video is all about removing escapements from cases.
