    Right. So I drove it on the highway today. And it turned out to be a nice and calm drive. My wife who drives a a landrover freelander was in the middle row and really loved the ride and handling. 8.5/10 marks, may be more. As one of the Australian guy said, its comfortable on the tarmac road and around town and brilliant off road, which I haven't tried yet, but I can tell you I haven't really needed to drive it with all wheel mode even on icy roads, the rear wheel one did just fine. And one final comment about the problems with the 8 speed auto transmission. There are none. Period.

    Having just read a TopGear review where the Shogun Sport was given a 3 out of 10, it's very clear that roadtesters aren't actually used to what I would consider to be a ' proper offroader '.
    This will not be a volume seller, Mitsubishi knows this, they know the market they're after.
    It'll be people who like the outdoorsy lifestyle, probably are a fan of a wax jacket.
    A Skoda Kodiaq is not a rival for this car, it's a school run mobile.
    The Shogun Sport is the car that'll tow a school bus through flood water.

      @cambsfarmer 5 років тому +2

      Yes I agree with you, in that Top Gear review they reviewed it to other cars which are only "soft roaders" and can only tow 2 tonnes. This is a completely different vehicle for a very different purpose.This car can be used as a proper workhorse

    • @oddities-whatnot
      @oddities-whatnot 5 років тому +2

      Adam correct. Most SUVs these days are bought in 2 wheel drive only, because they want the fashion statement car, but not bothered about physical capability. Range Rover Evoque is a good example. Available without AWD. Pointless. Bling car for school runs and to show the badge off. If I needed a car to cope with every road and weather condition, id either get this, or the Landcruiser, or any Subaru as I dont actually go green laning or intend climbing 45 degree muddy slopes etc.

    Wish it had 3.5 ton towing like the L200. That would make sense with farmers. Drives a lot better than the old and great Shogun. Rear dif lock is great to get you out of trouble. Disagree with the difference between 3 and 4. 4 has heated seats, 360 cameras, adaptive cruise control, plus some extra speakers, leather trim etc. The rear spoiler makes an incredible difference to it.

      Great review by the way. Nice to see a review look at what it's for rather than just road manors.

  • @SuperMickey1967

    I drove mine first day today. Very good drive and I am talking between glossop and stockport and back. 2H rear wheel drive was perfect on icy roads and didn't need to use 4H. 8 speed auto gears means responsible pickup of speed in this era of speed cameras everywhere especially where you least expect them. England is no country for sports cars anymore. Steering is even better than my old 2009 Honda CRV and turning etc is no issue. Very little body roll. Yet to try it on motorway but will write a separate report about it later. Suspension ? I felt it was better than my old CRV as always lumps and bumps were similar in feel. I think the car reviews so far given to this model are a perfect example of either yellow or paid journalism. Especially top gear. The Australian reviews were far far better and less biased than the British auto press.

    • @cambsfarmer

    I own 2 traditional Shoguns, both LWB's, a 2014 SG3 (60,000 miles) and 2004 Elegance (150,000 miles and still going strong), one used as a family vehicle, the other as a van. Both are capable 'tug' vehicles, either of which can be used to pull a twin axle caravan and that is really the point. I don't need a vehicle to go off road but I do need a vehicle that has brute strength to tow over 2 metric tonnes plus carry a full family load including luggage for holidays if necessary up some very steep hills etc. I love the look of the new Shogun Sport but question it's torque capability and whether it will carry the same longevity. 8 gears also sound like one or two to many.

      @newmotoring  6 років тому +2

      Thank you Bryan! Shogun has been replaced by Shogun Sport, as we understand it. (Shogun Sport is the capable car, Outlander PHEV is the technical car.) The trouble with the old Shogun was the platform was just too old! Hence the discontinuation.

    • @mel816
      @mel816 5 років тому

      The indicators located on the right side is actually the "correct" side for RHD vehicles: it allows drivers to use the indicators while keeping their right hand on or near the steering wheel and keeping their left hand free for shifting gears (at least for manual transmission).
      Indicators on the left side are conversely meant for LHD cars (same reason as above but reversed) and apparently manufacturers based in LHD countries didn't bother switching/mirroring their layouts for RHD models😛

    I have to agree with others here and say that it would be great to have 3.5 ton towing capacity like my L200. The new gear box should be good and it'll be interesting to see the fuel figures for this car with the BFG All Terrains as fitted to the car in the video. My L200 with the same tyres returns about 28mpg on a motorway run.

    Good, balanced review, however, no mention of Mitsubishi's reliability record compared to their rivals. Clearly you cannot comment on the reliability of the new Sport yet, but the brand has a far better reliability record than Land / Range Rover etc. Reliability is of critical importance to me and is the reason that I only buy Japanese, yet you failed to mention it (or did I miss it?)

    A sensible and balanced review thanks. Comparing this car to the standards set by most SUVs in on road driving in good conditions, as most car journalists do, misses the point. If one wants towing capability, low range transmission and all weather, on and off road capability in an SUV there are no competitors apart from the Landcruiser in the UK which costs an extra £10 k +.
