Everyone says that Eddie is the only one with the friendship of Chris Cornell but the whole band was dear to Chris as was Chris dear to them and plus Matt Cameron is the drummer in this band and was Chris’s longtime drummer in Soundgarden so I have a feeling it’s a combination of all of them that wrote this song. Beautiful song Pearl Jam!

I'm sure everyone pretty much knows how close Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron were dear Soundgarden, I think people are just so moved that Eddie did this because for a long time he didn't express his feelings about Chris Cornell death so finally he did.
Since Matt and Eddie both are singing the song I’m sure they had the most to do with it but this feels to much like Eddie’s lyrical style I’m sure he wrote it, if not all. But the writing credits will be on the internet
I think it to Eddie a good while to find words profound enough to dedicate to Chris as did the whole band
Pearl Jam didnt have to come out and say what or who this song is about. This song speaks of truths, that he has never publicly spoken of. EV has never cheapened his dear friendship by getting into battles, or told of the battles his friend faced, unlike his dear friends widow, he knows it would only cheapen and devalue someone who was truly a loved friend to him and to Pearl Jam. This song has finally given him a way to do so, given him a voice to tell his truths and how he feels. Beautiful song written by a wonderful man for his dear loved but never forgotten friend CC. EV has always had class, masterclass!

I couldn’t agree more!! Well said. It is a painful song, because as you say, it reveals the truth of what went on between Chris and his relationship with Vicki. The queen of collections, self neglect, she fell off the alter, a vision you caught her, I wish it wasn’t you that she had led. Painful to hear. May Chris be free of the mental torment she more than likely imposed upon him. Much Love❤️

Wow! Unbelievable - almost identical thing happened to me, except that it damn nearly buckled me the 2nd time I listed, which was tonight. Yesterday evening I was grabbed by the guitar and the composition of the song. Tonight, the second time I’ve listened to this song I had snot coming from my nose as I cracked with a damn good healthy cry.

a hard week has passed in confinement alone. a huge crisis looming and difficult times ahead, I couldnt find ease at being at home distant from friends, workmates and family, though knowing that there is no turning back to a younger place, with less preoccupation. maturity comes with this heavy feeling of uncertainty. this new album soothes me back to control. I've read the comments and listened to the lyrics, so I can surmise this is a tribute to Chris Cornell. It's like Cornell's guitar style on some parts was also added as a tribute. I had a hard day when I heard Chris had died and this brought that back, but with a sense of hope and love. So yeah, I cried.
To all of you faithful Pearl Jam fans, thank you for supporting a great group of guys.
My wife and I saw PJ for the first time in 95' and they opened up with release. We were hooked. This song epitomizes the greatness of EV's musical brilliance and sense of mortality.
PJ matured with time and dares not to be painted into a corner. You guys spoke to me when I was twenty and you guys speak to me now when I am pushing forty-five. Thank you.

Mike D Ditto. Pear Jam spoke to me beginning in my early 40s. Pushing 70. I am still a fan of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Collective Soul, REM, and other alternative and grunge bands of the era. Foo Fighters, not so much.

Totally agree, even the acoustic guitars, reminds me of Songbook. And then the strumming, feels as if Chris was strumming the calm part and Eddie adding the wild changes. And how about the video? I can think of King Animal album and promo scenery when I see it. I will always miss Chris.

Suicide has always been frowned upon but it also has been happening since the beginning of time which is another way some of us leave here and others like my dad fall and hit his head and cause a brain injury that took his life.
