I tried using these sculpting tools to fix a character animation where a limb bend looked horrible. It was awkward but it worked. I had to go into polygon mode, which took the weighted mesh into unposed mode. Then I had to use the sculpting brush to select the polygons, then I used the grab brush to fix the kinks. Maybe the wrong way to go about things, but it was a quick fix. (Of course don't do any sculpting that changes the mesh topology or your weights will be broken.)
Sculpting performance is completely compromised in the latest versions, 2M polys it starts to become very laggy on a high-end machine. If you try older versions you can go up to 15M polys. Also, why when we grab a brush you can get out of it hitting W for instance. So annoying!
