Hi DG Bene, Welcome to the caravanning community 🎉 We’re delighted you found our tips helpful, wishing you many happy travels & adventures in your new caravan 😀 Keith & Michele.
These tips are great. I hopefully am buying our first caravan this year 2021. Your videos have nudged me into buying a caravan which I have been thinking of doing for years. Thankyou.
Many thanks for your kind words Mark, we’re delighted you’re finding our videos helpful, good luck with the caravan, sending our best wishes, Keith & Michele.
Wish I had seen your fridge tip before I went off grid for the first time in my swift challenger! I bought it second hand and I don’t think it had ever been used on gas.I’ve now subscribed
These are great tips. I am returning to caravan life after a gap of 17 years, so need to remember how things are done, and some have changed too. I have watched a few of your videos and they are all simply brilliant, perhaps the BBC will be after you for presenters soon. 😀
Hi Andrew, Thank you so much for your kind words, we’re delighted you’re finding our videos useful. Welcome back to the caravanning community 😀 If we can help at all please feel free to email us. info@carefreecaravanning.co.uk Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
I turn the mirror auto fold off to save the towing mirrors doing any paint damage to the door if you lock the car with them on. May sound stupid, but I've placed a label on the mirror glass to remind me to switch this off (getting to an age where I forget things!!!!).
Hi markallisonparamotor Many thanks for watching, we’re delighted you’ve enjoyed our videos & found them helpful. New vlogs coming soon. Wishing you a very Happy New Year, Keith & Michele x
hi, I bought caravan for me and my friend to go fishing, I got it for 140 pound. I fitted towbar onto my car myself and took caravan onto a site last weekend. none of us had a clue what we were doing, we got caravan stuck because we had span it round on the spot twice because our cable wasnt long enough. we had numerous other problems but in the end it was a great weekend. we got help from another couple of people who seen the mess we were getting into, they said it was hilarious lol. jst wanted to share that
Hi Ste, Welcome to the community & many thanks for watching, we’re delighted you’re enjoying our videos & finding them helpful 🤗 Sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
A small suggestion on Aquarolls (and similar containers)....they're heavy when full and I've never understood why folks struggle to stand them upright on return from the water tap (if you have a weak back it's an action risking hurt or worse)....Most of the modern containers have a separate access cap in the side, so simply roll the barrel into position with the side cap at the top and drop the pump/pickup pipe in.... it's one more lift avoided. Energy thus saved can be used to pour more beer/wine.... :-)
Great tips 🤙 regarding the step goin in to caravan buy 4 new jack pads and attach those to the bottom of the step saves carrying the piece of wood and stops steps sinking
Delighted you’re finding our videos helpful Nathan. Congratulations on your new caravan, wishing you many happy travels & adventures. Best wishes, Keith & Michele.
Some useful tips guys, as a footnote I've just attended a C & M H manoeuvring course, they recommended when you reverse your van onto a pitch, always make your last move a forward one, this then takes the tension off the hitch and aligns the brakes, only a small movement is needed, I hope this helps.
We’re both enjoying your videos, we’ve just returned to caravaning after many years away. I would recommend to course to anyone, I was fine with towing, my reversing wasn’t brilliant, the course gives lots of practical and useful tips. Keep up the good work
Hi Keith & Michele , just found your channel and subscribed, love your videos , it’s amazing no matter how long you have been caravanning you always pick up new tips from others . Thanks for taking the time to do these Best wishes Howard
Hi Howard, thanks so much for your lovely comments, greatly appreciated 👍🏻 Welcome to our channel 😀 You’re absolutely right, we ourselves are picking up tips, learning along the way & being asked for advice on various matters. We’re more than happy to help. Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
Great guys 👍🏻 thanks for those. I noticed you attach the mirrors to the top side of the car mirrors. If you find they vibrate making viewing wobbly, try attaching to the underside which has less leverage.
Great video you two! Loved your tips and could relate to most. Looks like you had a lovely weekend away with amazing weather. Our first trip out was last weekend and we were bombarded by Storm Freya....enough said!! Keep up the good work :)
Thanks Guys 😀 We were incredibly lucky with the weather 😎 The site was excellent, review on that next week. Hope your trip went well despite the weather 😕 x
Just found your channel. Excellent tips, used to use cable ties to stop the flap blowing up and down, not any more. Just found 2 elastic bands dropped by the postman !!
Great tips I can relate to the rattling water inlet cover used to drive us made. Looks like we have the same caravan bought from the same dealer, who are very local to us. Best wishes Jon and Karen
Loved the tips thanks. We learnt the water flap tip many years ago but then found driving a motorhome on the motorway with the unsecured flap constantly hitting the side of the van is also incredibly annoying. Especially when it wasn't me who forgot to secure it! Going back to a caravan now and had forgotten the extending hitch issue; thanks for saving my bumper. 😁
Hi Dean, thanks for watching 👍🏻 If you have any questions about any caravan topics that you’re worried about, please let us know & we’ll do our best to help 😀 Keith & Michele info@carefreecaravanning.co.uk
Hi Jan & Bob, No, not wrong 😀 The top ups are literally for topping it up. For example, if you’ve had a shower at night you can easily top up the aqua roll instead of having to disengage it from the caravan & roll to the nearest tap. Handy if it’s dark, wet & windy! A lot of people do this with a watering can stored beside the aqua roll, we do it with the collapsible water carrier as a space saving measure. Hope this clarifies the topic for you. Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
I've no idea how I'm going to remember all of these tips over UA-cam in the near future when I take my debut voyage of caravanning in New Zealand. My head is spinning ! I have driven a 40 foot designer transporter with 2 lwb fridge vans onboard across the country for Polar Motors in York UK in the 90s before I left the Homelands but that was a rigid chassis and didn't seem so daunting as 21 feet of a wobbly caravan behind an Isuzu SUV ! Goodness ! I guess I should sub so I can post at the time of emergency advice LOL Winter Greetings to you both from Middle Earth 🙃
Hi Steph, You’ll be absolutely fine, a few trips & it will all fall into place 👍🏻 If you need us, please email carefreecaravanning.co.uk We’ll be happy to help. Sending our best wishes, Keith & Michele.
Hi Keith & Michelle, just found your channel. Love these top tips, always really useful. Will be getting a few of those water carriers, what a great idea. Subscribed 👍 Thanks Helen & Dave
Hi Keith and Michele very useful tips it's good to pass tips on to other car avers it helps a lot It looks like u were bless with good weather look forward to your review of the site tour thanks for sharing .kev
Some very useful tips. I love simple solutions to a problem. Regarding caravan steps we had the same problem of the step sinking.so we got a new step the type with tube all round the bottom of the step this makes more surface area with the ground and works perfectly.might save you carrying that piece of wood
Great tips thank you, just a thought, if you clip the mirrors onto the bottom of the car mirrors instead of the top it won’t knock them off when selecting reverse. You may need to change the sides of the extended mirrors.
Hi Hey Ho Let’s Tow, Many thanks for your kind words, we’re so pleased that you’ve enjoyed watching our videos 🤗 Haven’t been on the road yet this year, we’ve got a new Baby Granddaughter 🥰 She’s demanding all our attention at the moment 😆 Hoping to start our season in the Spring. Nice video thanks On the Aqua roll well it a role why carry weight when you can easily role 40lts Again as you say what ever works for others I just thought you have turned an easy job to a harder job James
Hi James, We don’t fill a 40 litre aqua roll with containers 😂 They’re merely a top up if you run out at an inconvenient time 😀 Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele
Just ordered my first ever caravan for jan/feb delivery. Any site recommendations would be appreciated, in Devon, Cornwall, Dorset,New forest etc. Don't know how many sites have fully serviced pitches these days but that's what we would prefer. Thanks and great channel
Hi Christian, Thanks for your lovely words 😀 Wishing you many happy adventures in your new caravan & if we can help in any way, please feel free to contact us info@carefreecaravanning.co.uk Thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Great tips, especially for newbies (like us!) and particularly the unhitching and mirror ones, thank you! Live 'n learn, always good advice, but there will always another way and some will have different preferences for surmounting the same problem - human nature... 👍🏻
That was fantastic. Thanks a lot for the tips. For someone starting the adventures in "caravaning" that was really helpful. Also allow me to say that you two make a lovely couple.
Re: the water containers, my top tip is get yourself a second aquaroll, fill both to start with, when one is empty or low, simply swap the pump head over to the full one, then take the empty one to refill at your leisure. I've been doing this for years now as do many seasoned caravanners and never have to worry about running out, or hand carrying 10 litres of water.
Hi Keith and Michele, putting strip of masking tape on your car mirror prior to fitting towing mirrors will stop the rubber feet marking your painted mirror cases. Remove the tape after arriving on site. 👍
My answer to the steps sinking into the ground (no carpet involved) is to use 40mm diameter plastic tubing such as is used for internal or external domestic plumbing. Cut sections out of them to insert the legs of the steps into. This spreads the load preventing any sinking into grass or fine hardstanding. Very lightweight and easily dropped into small spaces in the boot of the car for transporting.
Some great tips. Instead of carrying a piece of wood around for the steps I bought some furniture castor cups off good old amazon. They are about 2 inches in diameter so should fit most steps.
Hey guys, some really useful tips there, and some things that I still suffer with every time, like the tow hitch into the bumper and the flapping water inlet cover! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Just found your channel and subscribed. I've been caravaning for a few years and thought I knew quite a bit but I leaned a few new things. Thanks great content and good presentation
"if you are brave enough to reverse on to pitch" ! electric movers are creating a whole group of caravaners who have lost the art of reversing, wonderful when you come face to face with them on a country lane, the look of sheer panic on their faces is a joy when they realise someone will have to go back :-)
The de rigueur caravan tip which you missed was after you have hitched up use the the jockey wheel to lift the car marginally to show that the hitch up is complete and safe.
Hi Tom, Thanks for that, we have in fact covered this in another video titled “Caravan Advice & Tips For Beginners” Thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele.
Add to the mirror tilt, switch off the auto fold, if like mine your mirrors fold right in the towing mirrors his the window glass. So when I fit the towing mirrors I switch off the auto fold. On my Mercedes it's done by the menu buttons on the steering wheel.
Hi there, I notice you have a BMW and probably an x3 or 5. you have obviously mastered turning off the reverse sensors better than me. Even when following BMW's instructions for turning the sensors off it still applies the breaks when i try to reverse. Have you a work around for this?
Hi Rob, It really sounds like you may have an issue with your caravan brake linings. Most modern caravans have a brake system that unlocks the brakes when the caravan is reversing. It sounds like this may have failed on your caravan. Although we’re not experts, we would advise, when you can, to get the brakes checked out. Hope this helps, best wishes, Keith & Michele.
Thank you both. From what you’ve just said I suspect it might have something to do with the way the tow bar electrics have been fitted. I’ve had two BMWs and two caravans where I’ve had this problem. The tow bar was fitted by the same person on both occasions so based on your comments I think this may be the problem.
Alternative for Tip1: If you have a motor mover - engage it and carefully move the caravan backwards away from car until hitch has extended. 5 great tips - happy caravaning!
thank you for the tips, i will be using all of those! weve been vaning now for 2 years and absolutely love it, i have just subscribed and i look forward to watching more of your videos :)
Hi Keith & Michele, dont know if you have ever used you outside shower, if you have would you know how to fit the ultraflow bridge connection under the seat. thanks
Hi Irene, Unfortunately we don’t have an outside shower so we’re not familiar with this type of connection. Hopefully someone else will comment on here or alternatively if you are on Facebook you can join a group called DIY Caravan Repairs and Maintenance & post the question there. It’s a really helpful group 👍🏻 Sorry we can’t be of more help. Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
thank you for that tip on the on the spring chasiss on the caravan i try to tell my wife i put my handbrake on but the van moved forward marked my bumper so thank you
I wish I had a quid for every mark on my rear bumper. But I wouldn't want to implicate my wife. It just ain't worth it. PS. Of course, it's called "bumper" for a reason. So no problem.
Thanks for the tips Keith & Michele, wel appreciated.

Hi Des, Great tip, thanks for sharing 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Agree. We always use 2 aqua rolls.
Would be great here in the US to have the hand break installed on our camper. I've used the "emergency" break away twice to help. Lol!!
We are new to owning a caravan, after having years of motorhoming, yet i still find im still learning. Thanks for your tips.
Hi Paul, Many thanks for watching & for your comments. Wishing you many happy adventures in your new caravan 😀 Keith & Michele
With experience of both, which would you recommend for a newbie?
Hi Keith and Michele, putting strip of masking tape on your car mirror prior to fitting towing mirrors will stop the rubber feet marking your painted mirror cases. Remove the tape after arriving on site. 👍
Another great tip from you Colin 👍🏻 Many thanks for sharing, Keith & Michele.
Thanks for sharing your tip John 👍🏻 and thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
Some great tips. Instead of carrying a piece of wood around for the steps I bought some furniture castor cups off good old amazon. They are about 2 inches in diameter so should fit most steps.
Hi Jonathan, thanks for that tip & thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Very helpful, just about to start caravanning so these as fantastic, thank you :)
Hi Alan, Many thanks for your lovely words, wishing you many happy adventures in your caravan 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
Hey guys, some really useful tips there, and some things that I still suffer with every time, like the tow hitch into the bumper and the flapping water inlet cover! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Thanks for watching guys, simple tips but useful 😀
Good stuff, nice useful advice, keep em coming
Thanks Andrew, new one out on Friday 👍🏻
Just found your channel and subscribed. I've been caravaning for a few years and thought I knew quite a bit but I leaned a few new things. Thanks great content and good presentation
Hi Barry, Many thanks for your kind words, never too old to learn 😀 Thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele
"if you are brave enough to reverse on to pitch" ! electric movers are creating a whole group of caravaners who have lost the art of reversing, wonderful when you come face to face with them on a country lane, the look of sheer panic on their faces is a joy when they realise someone will have to go back :-)
Thank you for the tip :)
Hi Steinar, Many thanks for watching 👍🏻 Keith & Michele.
Excellent advice Paul, many thanks for sharing 👍🏻 Best wishes, stay safe, Keith & Michele.
The tow bar was fitted by the same person on both occasions so based on your comments I think this may be the problem.
... so einfach und wirklich nützlich
Thank you Andreas, delighted you enjoyed our video. Best wishes, Keith & Michele.
Alternative for Tip1: If you have a motor mover - engage it and carefully move the caravan backwards away from car until hitch has extended. 5 great tips - happy caravaning!

@@keithandmichele thanks for getting back to me x
thank you for that tip on the on the spring chasiss on the caravan i try to tell my wife i put my handbrake on but the van moved forward marked my bumper so thank you
I wish I had a quid for every mark on my rear bumper. But I wouldn't want to implicate my wife. It just ain't worth it.
PS. Of course, it's called "bumper" for a reason. So no problem.
