In this moment .
This is the most beautiful choral piece ever written. Kudos to the Xhosa people who first sang this.
You were mistaken, It's a Zulu song, a father in isiZulu uBaba, and in isiXhosa uTata....
@@nkanyisomkhize853it’s origin is Xhosa though
@@hlatsepantomath nah😏
@@nkanyisomkhize853 listen to what they sing…Translation:
Ngob'umthatile umtwana wakho, uhlale nathi hololo helele
The Lord has taken his son who lived amongst us Indodana ka nkulunkulu bayi bethelela hololo helele
The son of the Lord God was crucified.
You are wrong. This is Zulu song. Indodana unyana in isixhosa.@@hlatsepantomath
It's 2023 and I still find myself watching this video. Amazed by how beautiful this song was performed. Proudly 🇿🇦

A proud Tuks Graduate watching all the way in China where I am currently teaching. Tuks gave me the best 4 years of my life!!! I remember Tuks Camerata did a flash mob at the main campus Merensky Library singing this very song, I was in tears! Especially that “oh baba” part it hit me hard❤️
👌👌
I'm watching today and savoring every note. I hope you are safe from Corona
i remember and i was so emotionally
Dad passed away on monday, and this song is so much aligned with what i feel today... thanks for your beauty, this song is an anthem with heaven.
May his soul rest in peace.
@@leerahdee332 thanks so much
The pleasure is all mine. 😑
@Cyril MF: Jesus is your comforter 🙏🏾
@@beautyphilips5861 wow you are so right Beauty Philips, thanks, be blessed you and your beloved
I have heard this song sung by many other choirs and i must say that University of Pretoria is my favourite one. They nailed it, voice projection, expressing emotion to the song... Perfection indeed!!
I have never in my long life heard anything more beautiful. Thank you South Africa for showing us that human harmony is possible
Its zulu
This is breathtakingly beautiful.
my brother is one of the choristers.I remember learning his music and going to every single concert i could, even being in this audience that evening.makes me cry every time.hearing the camerata preform moved me and changed me as a person.such a spiritual experience.
As a Tuks Alum, I couldn't be prouder. Everytime I hear this I am filled with so much warmth and pride.
this song is amazing, I truly believe in the transformational power of music. Amazing work, pure, genuine, powerful song.
That soprano note @ 57 secs...Beautiful...
The Choir Director is so wonderful and passionate 😭😭 You Can Watch His Conducting he is falling and love whith the sound I love choir music like this so much ‼️😍
A very good performance!! Greetings from Portugal!
this version slaps hard, the lament is brought out beautifully
Please bring this back. Asseblief!
Proud Camerata Alumni... what a masterpiece. I’m missing Tshego and Ithabeleng’s pleading alto voices.. those were the days. Great work Micheal.
cant watch it without being emotional, the lyrics and harmony hit hard in the heart. proud of tuks hlee
Lisbeth Mthimkulu that's too emotional
Goosebumps when choreo comes in! Greatest move of all time...
Dr Michael Barret is a Legend! Brilliant composition. I loved the adjustment of Jehova to Yehova to suit the Xhosa narrative.
Outstanding Ovation.
M still here during lockdown🥰
Greetings from Texas! This song is beginning to catch on with American choirs more, such a wonderful song. A couple of comments, having listened to several versions of this on UA-cam. I agree that there should be more bass, although I wonder if it’s the recording. TUKS performance is amazing, especially the way they emphasize the dissonances in the chords. It gives it a great emotional tension befitting the text. One things I prefer in the Stellenbosch performance is that it sounds like a solo being improvised over slow moving chords.
The Ndlovu youth choir sing it how it should be sung, depth
my oh my.......! And their facial expressions......this is a killer! i Cant stop listening.
this song made me cry...its just toooooo beautiful..i love it
Not only are all these performances absolutely incredible, they are a nice exhibition of our rainbow nation. But why don't they have this competition every year?
They do have it each year
@@thabangmasemola2087 Would be really good if that were true. I can only find 2016 on UA-cam. I don't have TV so maybe it's just not on UA-cam. Can you supply a link to later Varsity Sings
4 years later and i still love the details in this video
This song makes me wanna cry coz it reminds me of my late grandmother who is in heaven where she is resting in peace. I love you gogo.
I always cry when I listen to this song it's too much 😍😍😭😭😭
Thing about these songs is that they never get old. They make proud to be in SA😂♥️This choir is so on point. Love them so much 🖤 Kudos UP!!! You never disappoint. #TUKS 💯
Tuks Camerata has sanctified this song. A magnificent performance-Virtuoso! Great Voices.....
Can you ever 😭 beautiful!!! 2019 still watching. Thank you University of Pretoria 🙌🏾
For months of listening to these guys I still can't find any that can top this! I never get enough of it.
The Lyrics You might be Looking for:
Ngob’umthatile eh umtwana wakho (You took Your own son)
Uhlale nathi hololo helele (Who lived amongst us)
(Repeat)
Indodana ka Nkulunkulu (The Son of God)
Bayi’bethelela hololo helele (Was crucified + [A wordless expression of grief/ a wail])
(Repeat)
Oh Baba!, Baba, Baba Yehova! (Oh Father, Jehovah!)
Baba, hololo, helele (Father! [wailing]) (Repeat)
Bless You.
This is definitely the best version 😭
i love it so much. makes me miss the homeland man. thank you UP

The Lowveld High school choir brought me here
i listen to amazing choirs as such and just wonder... if humans are this good, the angels in heaven will blow my mind when i meet God
I'm in tears beautiful I can picture heaven when listening to these angelic voices ,Tuks I'm speechless🙌🙌🙌OMG!!!!!
Stellenbosch University version of this in Riga still takes the cake though ❤️
Absolutely
dang man school is over, favorite memory of choir for sure!
They killed it SHAME... IT'S AMAZING
This hymn is my favourite of them all (not just the vernacular ones). When I looked up the meanings of the Xhosa, I was astonished at the sheer beauty of it. I make it a point of order that the morning of Good Friday starts with this hymn - to have myself reminded of the moving message. Those long slow cadences bear its profound sadness perfectly, and yet they also rise to remarkable heights of upliftment.
Lord, please listen to your children 😭❤️
Exceptionally perfect....it floods my tears away...I luv u guys nd really wish to meet you someday😢😢😭
Some people are blessed outside, those voice❤❤
Beautiful❤❤i can never get tired of this choir performance it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it
It's amazing to know that it's not only me who's feeling like this about this song

These guys do them things....yhooo....this just got me emotional 😭😭😭
They just reminded me one of these days when we sang this song everyone was on tears and I won't forget it and it's still my number1 fav song...

I’m even wondering
Varsity Sing must come back 😔
29 March 2021, still goosebumps all over! 🔥🔥🔥🇿🇦
You’ve got to love the CONDUCTOR
I listened to this in my choir class for a paper he wanted us to do where we had to reflect what everything in the skng was.... so I'm home now- decided to watch it a 3rd time😌
I cried my lungs out after listening to this song again,
This is very pure, harmony and the blending of voices
now this is singing wowww. there are people who have mastered the art. mmm
That last note
Serene
😘😘😘
Still one of my favourite songs😍😍😍
One more thing that I like about Stellenbosch. Their bodies move, even in slow songs. That physical involvement shows an internalized rhythm that keeps the phrases moving and energizes the singing. Look at American choirs like St. Olaf and see what happens to the sound when the performers are not rigid.
Today, I stumbled on some of your comments. I am overwhelmed (and passionate) by the emotion and poetry red in the voices, technique and body posture of these singers! Greetings from Portugal.
Facial expressions are priceless 😭😭😭😭😭😭
great voices indeed...loved it although i cant hear the language
Still listening in 2023! Busy tickling my eardrums at 1 am
