The Brews' original series saw 2 withdrawals, namely the Dragons and the Forrests, and the rule was that if a team had to withdraw from the competition, one of the highest scoring losers would step in and take their place. Pretty hilarious throughout this special that most of the first clues coming up was the eponymous number 1.
I thought so too. They all laugh, "what a hilarious mistake", but her brain was functioning exactly in the manner the category was presented. She saw the three and thought "well there's the plus one". Baffling why they would have another "plus one" in the same idiom. Oh the humanity!
When she mentioned "freeze the screen and solve the crossword" I felt caught out, because I had done just that already at the beginning. But as somebody had already said, it is missing clues on screen. I especially wanted to see how they transitioned from letters to numbers.
19:25 This is a correct answer, no? The last episode number and title are still going to be what they are, regardless of whether it ended on a two-parter. Guess they wanted them to give precise details, but that's hard to presume them to do without having seen clue 3 (or being a superfan of the series).
@@cannot-handle-handles I don't think their answer was the third clue -- it was the fourth. I guess it's a little odd because we say it ended on a "two part episode", so "episode" has two meanings here. It can both refer to either part, to which "the final episode" means part two (which I think means their answer is correct), or it could mean the two parts together.
@@cannot-handle-handles I don't know; I'm speaking as somebody who doesn't know the show that well, but knows the typical episode titles were "The One with ..." However, when I was playing along, I thought the third might've been the "final episode" of the original run, and the fourth clue might've been a special made afterward.
27:38 can someone explain why they laugh? The category is idioms plus one. So she is right. The answer written here is plus two, not plus one. Maybe a bit stupid that she misread the consonants, but they react as if the whole phrase doesn't make sense anymore, or as if it is silly to say better than one instead of better than two. But that indeed makes more sense! What am I missing?
In the idiom you sum one to both numbers, so "Two heads are better than one" becomes "Three heads are better than two". They laughed because they did sum one for the first number but not for the second, and the missing vowels lead you to doing that as well
Wasn't really a fan of the "One" sequences. There should really always be a possibility of them getting it from just the first clue, but this makes that pretty much impossible to guess. What if a team had guessed after one clue, and got one of the other questions right instead, would that be fair?
I'm giving myself points for "ummmm, one" since that's the passcode in Meet the Spy. Also, Victoria was right on the final question, the category was "plus one", not "plus one and plus one"
The pedant in me has a slight issue with the factorial question. One! is not the same as 1! If you are treating the ! as a mathematical symbol, then the whole symbolic structure has to be treated that way, and One! makes no sense. (equally for Two! etc). I know it's not supposed o be taken *that* seriously, but sometimes wrong is wrong.
Another episode! We are on a streak! Please enjoy, and happy new year again!

Double thanks!
Thank you so much for these, and Happy New Year from Canada 🎉🎉
Thanks for being singularly wonderful. Loving these in NZ
Thank you!🎩
I finish one and look up to see there's already another! You spoil us!
Please, don't say "one" again for a long time...
Now this is gonna be "one" of my top fav episodes of "Only" Connect, I never laughed this hard before, thanks for the video.
Olympic gold medal levels of commitment to the bit. Amazing job all around.
the low stakes nature the teams feel during these specials make them so much fun! thanks for uploading!
This special was a singular sensation.
Every little clue they made.
Wonderful!😉👍
I like the cheeky reference to England as "abroad" in the first round since they film in Wales.
yes, gave me a chuckle - also like that it wasn't referenced by anyone in the studio
That question in 13:31 is now ONE of my most favorite Only Connect question ever
Thanks Wheels, much obliged!🌷
I'm getting spoiled on Only Connect. Gonna be expecting to see a new episode on a daily basis now.

12:30. If anyone’s looking for a treat look up “Chris Cornell - One” in which he sings the lyrics from Metallica to the tune of U2
21:47 i was like “one… fire… desire…. i want it that way lyrics ??”
Gee thanks, now I'll have that stuck in my head for days. ^_^
Thank you for the uploads, and Happy New Year!
The specials have been so enjoyable. Thank you for the uploads!
5 points on the twisted flax sequence! I'm so proud.
Is there a picture of the crossword available? Kinda want to see if I can solve it lol
edit: nevermind thanks victoria lol
of the episodes of all time
Lots of fun and Phoebe is simply gorgeous! Thank you.
Totally enjoy this show, these people are way above my non linear thinking scale, but oh so good at it.
Technically, the answer at the buzzer fits the category better
Right!? The given answer is off by one from the category as stated.

Victoria is STYLIN’ tonight!
Here comes the first: One
I love how by round two this was cracking up both teams
Victoria cheering for one factorial. XD
5 points for the "Eye of Horus" music question.
now we need that puzzle

Very clever questions
Scott and Scott would love those connecting wall categories
Thank you!
9:11 Ok, who has finished the crossword? Zoom & Enhance.
No one noticed the red herring in the first wall, happening to be one of the producers of the u2 song it turned out to be
Lovely!
I thought James was in a thruple!
9:05 for alvvays
I think The Brews missed an opportunity - "The Brewsers".
When she mentioned "freeze the screen and solve the crossword" I felt caught out, because I had done just that already at the beginning. But as somebody had already said, it is missing clues on screen. I especially wanted to see how they transitioned from letters to numbers.
One no longer looks like a word to me. Surely it's pronounced oh-nay
or to rhyme with cone.
it is only an anagram of a Brian
“Three heads are better than two” would be an idiom plus two though, wouldn’t it?
That was brilliantly weird.

Well, even without seeing clue 3 they could have realized that their answer was the third in a sequence of three.

I can see rhe cryptic crossword but the resolution is too low to make out the clues. Anyone have a copy?

I think she might be laughing because she's embarrassed, while the others could be laughing out of sympathy.
The crossword is incomplete! i have never felt more betrayed.

Not seeing Metallica's "One" in this episode made me so sad.

finally, an episode for the americans. 🇺🇲🦅 particularly, those of us who identify as being "of the bottle".
The friends question was unfair they answered correctly
They didn't even give the title... And it was suspicious that there was a third clue left, if 235 was the last episode...

Hmm, tea is not brewed - that is beer, etc. Tea is in fact steeped, so maybe they should call themselves the Steepers ??
Both are brewed. It's not the same process, but both methods of producing something hopefully drinkable are called "to brew".
First
I think you mean "1st" lol
I think you mean "one"
