Just remember that The Donner Cut is a rough " general idea" taken from the stance that in an alternate reality "Superman: The Movie" had its own original ending and not the one they took from the originally as-scripted Superman II. It's mainly good for seeing the Marlon Brando and extended Metropolis fight footage, and is not considered a finished film in any sense of the imagination. In a sense, you would need to use the old ABC television extended cut from the 80's as a guidepost that had both cuts blended together... then add back in the Marlon Brando footage, which had not been available at that time.
Christopher Reeve's wife was also just the nicest, sweetest, most loyal and loving person. She died young from lung cancer, despite never having been a smoker, orphaning their son at only 13. Life isn't fair, is it? 😢
yes and to add to those facts, CHRIS R was a big hockey fan and SHe would be with him at NY Rangers home games. I was so shocked when they said she had been diagnosed with cancer and less than 6 mnths later she died! Just a tragic story
Christopher Reeve was a class act all the way. I had the pleasure of meeting him once. It was about the time Superman 3 came out. I was on a ski trip in Colorado with some friends. One morning we heard a commotion outside the lodge and went to check it out. People had recognized him but it was obvious he had tried to enjoy some skiing incognito. His hair was different and he had on dark glasses, but at his height and physique there was no blending into the crowd. Later in the day he came into the large lunch hall at the lodge. The place was pretty crowded and I was at a small table by myself. When he got through the line and started looking for a seat people were flocking around him and he was obviously uncomfortable. As he walked by I motioned to the other chair at my table and said he was welcome to it if he liked. He thanked me and sat down in the corner where the crowd couldn't fit. They slowly dispersed. We sat and ate quietly for half an hour or so making small talk about the weather and condition of the snow. I was dying to tell him how much I loved superman and my favorite movie of his Somewhere in Time. I would have loved to get an autograph too but kept my cool and acted like he was any other stranger at the resort. I excused myself and said I was going to hit the slopes again before the weather turned bad which had been forcast for late afternoon. He asked if I minded if he tagged along. Of course I said he was welcomed to join me. We took the lifts to the very top and skied together for a couple of hours. He then stopped at a sign to turn onto a slope that was way beyond my abilities and I told him I wouldn't survive if I went that way. He laughed and thanked me for the company and we parted ways. One of my fondest memories from my college years. He was a genuinely nice human being, even after his tragic accident. He is truly missed.
Superman 3 with an obviously coked out Richard Pryor inserted by the studio execs to boost ticket sales gross was possibly the worst superhero movie I've seen in my life. This one movie was what tarnished an otherwise impeccable comic book hero movie franchise
There's a version on the story for Non that is quite horrible. In it, Non was a member of Krypton Science Council and Jor-El's mentor. He was happy that Jor-El actually surpassed him in scientific knowledge. And he was the only one who would support Jor-El's theory on the inminent destruction of Krypton. For that, they captured him and lobotomized him entirely, leaving him next to mindless.
RIP Margot Kidder (Lois), Christopher Reeve(Clark), Ned Beatty(Otis), Marlon Brando(Jor-El Pa Krypton), Susannah York (Lara Lor-Van Ma Krypton) Jackie Cooper(Daily Planet Editor), Glen Ford(Pa Kent) , and Phyllis Thaxter (Ma Kent)
As a big fan of Superman and these movies, gotta say I appreciate you just getting into the movie and suspending disbelief as opposed to picking every little thing apart. You definitely get all the reasons the Christopher Reeves Superman movies are so special.
christopher reeve was the reason i wanted to be an actor. and him as superman was the reason i got into comics. if not for him as superman, i would never gotten into other superheroes from batman, to spider-man, to captain america, and so on and so forth
This movie had the one thing i always wanted to see when i was a kid: ACTUAL SUPERVILLAINS! So-called superhero movies and tv shows always went the cheap route. All we got were bank robbers and terrorists, with the occasional mad scientist. But this movie actually WENT THERE!
In one of the great mistakes of my life, in 1994, Christopher Reeve did an appearance at a sci fi convention near where I live, but I decided not to go because I figured he'd be back since he was doing conventions now. Unfortunately, a year later is when he had his accident and was paralyzed. I really regret not meeting him because he'll always be THE Superman to me.
That's like the year my dad had a chance to go see Jimi Hendrix in concert near his house in Southern California. He figured he'd have a chance to see him again next year. The next year Hendrix had overdosed and died.
I'm Brazilian and SUPERMAN for me is the best superhero movie of all time! I watched it at the cinema when I was a child and I still feel like a child today and I am enchanted by the action scenes and special effects! For me it will always be a wonderful and untouchable classic.
As a child I wanted to be Christopher Reeve when I grew up. I saw him as an image of what a man was supposed to be like. And I’m not talking about having super powers I mean his character as a person. Also, I loved Superman 3. It was funny and entertaining. Superman 4 is umm well it’s ummm it has Christopher Reeve in it that’s the best thing I can say about it.
A few years ago a friend of mine wanted to buy a new Guitar. He had stopped at a music store in Bozeman Mt and the staff spent a good deal of time with him. He left without buying anything. He checked with the music stores here in Billings but couldn't get over how well he had been treated in Bozeman. He decided to take a trip there and purchase one from them, As we approached Livingston our conversation turned to Margot Kidder and how much we loved her portrayal of Lois Lane. Livingston had been her home for many years. When we stopped for lunch we commented on how cool it would be to accidentally run into her. He wound up buying a new guitar and we came home. The next day the news announced that Margot had died. It was a sad day for both of us. I never did ask him if he thought of her whenever he played it. To me she will always be Lois Lane.
You mentioned Christopher Reeve's likable reputation. There's a story about him that we were told, touring Mackinac Island several years ago... As others have mentioned, the 1980 movie Somewhere In Time was filmed on location on Mackinac, so Reeve was there for a few weeks. While he was there, the island had a showing of his 1978 Superman, which he attended. During the showing, the film's audio went out. So Reeve stood up and delivered all of the film's dialog, until the audio was fixed.
The issue I had was Superman is a guy who has to treat the world like paper 24/7. He has perfect mastery of his powers as not to hurt people (this would be his ultimate weakness during the diner fight) but he trips over a rug? I figured that he loved Lois so much, he was legit nervous around her and it got the best of him.
Christopher Reeve filmed part of "The Rose and the Jackal" at the Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad near Atlanta. A friend of mine worked there and was the actual engineer of the train that Reeve's character was supposed to commandeer in one of the scenes. He backs up everyone who talks about how nice Christopher Reeve was in real life.
Terence Stamp who played General Zod would go on to portray Jor-El (Clarks father) in the tv series, Smallville. Also Margot Kidder, "Lois" and even Christopher Reeve would make a couple guest appearances on Smallville.
Yes, great mentions!! I would like to add that the lady that plays Lana Lang, Annette O’Toole, in Superman 3 also plays as Clark’s mom in Smallville, for those that don’t know.
The other thing is, the fortress of solitude computer probably should have had some way to detect if a threat has arrived on Earth and it should have alerted Superman. 😲
As Larry Niven explained in "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" it is a good thing that Lois didn't get the chance to sleep with Superman because his bodily fluid are also "faster than a speeding bullet" so Lois would have died from the shock of them going right through her
@@ArgonTheAware which is why his mother told him if he wanted to be with lois he needed to lose his power. Not something explain in the movie but it make sense in this context.
I really liked Jen's reaction to the magic kiss at the end. Margot Kidder and Christopher Reeve were great in these movies. For some reason the orange juice part always stuck with me. It's such a small detail but goes a long way in showing Lois' idiosyncrasy and how Clark plays off it. The running joke is that putting on glasses makes him unrecognizable but I love Clark's mannerisms and clumsiness. Hiding in plain sight. Also, Gene Hackman scene "Superman, thank God! I mean, get him!!"
@@DeltaAssaultGaming having read Superman comics for 40 years I can tell you Margot Kidder was the perfect Lois Lane. Smart, brave and true. Amy Adams is just sort of there, she doesn't show any of the spirit or wit of the comic book Lois.
20:48-That second ask was way more aggressive than the first ask to "kneel" 22:33- That's the 1. It can't be topped. That line is just too perfect. The volume, acting, facial expression all perfect.
Okay, Jen... Since you are so smitten with Christopher Reeve, you MUST see 'Somewhere In Time' which came out in the early 1980s. It is a tremendously romantic film with the stunningly beautiful Jane Seymour as his love interest. It is based on a novel called 'Bid Time Return' by Richard Matheson. As far as the Superman films with Reeve, there is 'Superman III" with Richard Pryor, Annette O'Toole (as Clark's high school crush Lana Lang), and Robert Vaughn. It is a fun film, but it's more Richard Pryor's movie and Superman/Clark Kent is in it. As for 'Superman IV: The Quest For Peace', it's a mess. It had a story by Reeve, and he was really passionate about the themes of the story, but between a small budget by the studio that made it (Golan-Globus, which made quite a few schlocky low-budget movies in the 80s & 90s), the director not doing a good job, and other factors...it's not very good. Just warning you now. It was Reeve's last performance as Superman. However, he did return to the Superman Universe...in season two of 'Smallville', in the episode "Rosetta", Reeve played Dr. Virgil Swann, a quadriplegic scientist who helps young Clark Kent (played by Tom Welling) learn about himself. 'Smallville' had many characters played by 'Superman' film alums...Martha Kent was played by Annette O'Toole for most of the series run, Margot Kidder also made appearances, and the voice of Jor-El was played by Terrence Stamp (General Zod). It's a pretty good series if you ever get interested. As usual, it was fun watching you swoon over Reeve (I'm a straight guy who had a man-crush on him for most of my life...I get it!). Looking forward to the next reaction!!!
As pertains to Superman 4, the story behind it could be its own movie. However I do have to say, it was not the directors fault at all, he literally did the best with what he was given considering the budget was slashed by more than half and then further reduced so they could finish Masters of the Universe. What they put out was even a miracle as it should have been worse just based on that. Furie(The Director), Reeve and the cast did as much as they could to save it.
The whole thing with Superman in this movie was a conglomeration of decades of comic book madness. Superman was introduced in 1939. For four decades (at the time of the making of these movies), countless comics were made about him; at various points Superman, Lois Lane, Jimmy, Supergirl, Superboy, and Krypto the Superdog all had series ongoing, and he appeared in other heroes' comics as well. So how do you keep him fresh and interesting for so long? The writers were constantly giving him new, newer, strange and stranger and stranger powers. Originally he was 'faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to *leap* tall buildings in a single bound!' By the mid 1950's he had super-hearing, super-windy-breath, super-freezing-breath, super-suck-up-tons-of-water, x-ray vision, heat-vision, shapeshifting (by flexing his facial muscles he could change his appearance), Amnesia-inducing super-pheremone kisses (he had to kiss Lois frequently to make her forget every time she figured out his secret identity) and on and on AND ON. There had been Superman movies and shows before, but these were the first of the modern era of superhero movies featuring state-of-the-art big budget special effects. But clearly the writing was seat-of-the-pants and they gave little consideration to how to carry forward a sustainable set of sequels, much less a full franchise like Marvel has been doing lately. How do you one-up Superman spinning the Earth backwards to alter time? A flying cellophane 'S' symbol, I suppose. At least it's unexpected.
That was my biggest beef with SM1. Rewinding time by flying around the planet. Yiu can't really beat that as a super power plus 'killing' Lois like that and promptly bringing her back less than 5 minutes later hurts future stakes. Otherwise, near perfect films these first two. SM3 is pretty good, too.
Everyone liked Christopher in the industry. No one had one bad word to say about him Robin Williams was his best friend and it destroyed him when he died.
I am a Superman addict as well, I love all things Superman. The greatest hero, the kindest person, the love story. I would suggest you might enjoy watching Smallville as well!
Sarah Douglas... man what a smokeshow 😍 She didn't star in many blockbuster roles, but she was in several shows in the 70's and 80's... absolute bombshell. She went on to be a great voice actress, and you've probably heard her voice in many DC animated movies and series.
Sarah Douglas is in the second Conan movie, played a startlingly evil villain in Babylon 5 'Deathwalker', and much earlier, was in one of the late 1970s-early 1980s 'lost world / dinosaur adventure movies'. 'The People That Time Forgot'. Lots of fun.
Christopher Reeve was a real life Superman 🦸♂️ all that he went through and never quit. My Dad used to fly me around the house as a kid wearing the costume, great memory. Broke my heart that my hero in the 80s accident happened in my home state of Va. Great having him in episodes of Smallville with Tom Welling. The best part of Superman 3 is him fighting with himself, not trying to spoil that, but that whole part of the movie is great and in 4 that Lois remembers is awesome too.
My older brother and I saw this in the theater when it came out and the scene where Supes was crushed by the bus, my brother and I truly thought that he had died! General Zod, Ura and Non were great characters to bring into the sequel. Lex Luthor had me and my brother laughing our asses off! Gene Hackman is a legend! You need to watch his movies "The French Connection" (1971) and the sequel (1975). I'm so glad that you got to enjoy this film! 📽❤
Yes I said it The best superman movie yet After watching this once I got older the message I got was no love should make you give up on what you were meant to be
I think the scene at Niagara Falls where Superman flies past the Canadian flag may have been a nice tribute to Joe Shuster the co-creator of Superman. He was the artist who gave Superman his look. His fellow creator of the character was the American writer Jerry Siegel.
To spell out what I think you were getting at, Joe Shuster was Canadian. From Toronto (great city btw). In fact, Metropolis was originally based on Toronto rather than a US city. And Jen didn’t mention that Margot Kidder was Canadian. Born in the NWT to a Canadian mom & American dad. (I’m actually American but I spend some time north of the border visiting friends and relatives.) Chris Reeve was great. Superman II (mostly shot simultaneously with Superman I, btw) was my favorite movie for most of my life. I still rank it quite high.
23:58 Mark! "Supe" sounds like "soup" and that reminds me! One of my favorite brands of peanut butter is "Superman Peanut Butter"! Sandwiches made with it went well with the soups that Grandma used to cook for us back in the day. 😋
That scene with Gus getting Brad drunk was hilarious!! Actually, I feel like every scene with Brad and Gus was great. Richard Pryor and that other actor (can’t remember his name right now) are so funny in this; really like the scenes where Brad and Clark interact, and he can’t stand Clark!!! 😂
I remember when Christopher Reeve passed away, it took a while to sink in, because it just didn't seem right that he didn't walk again in life time, he evoked such faith in the impossible. For most of us he is Superman
Is it weird that I keep on tearing up every time I hear his music and see him saving someone in the first one? I was 3 or 4 when the first Superman came out.
I saw this at a preview for newspaper delivery kids (I was one) and it was the most amazing audience response I've ever seen. They cheered and applauded non-stop and literally jumped up when Clark shows up at the diner. An audience of Jimmy Olsens.
You actually can trust Luthor… to be untrustworthy. 😁 The later sequels are not as beloved, but I hope you will still watch. Reeve is great in all of them.
To piggyback on what BigGuy617 wrote: Lois and Clark did get married in "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman", which coincided with their marriage in the comic books. The wedding issue actually hit the stands the same week that the show had the wedding episode. Currently, there is a show on the WB (and I believe on HBO Max), "Superman and Lois", which just finished up its second season. Lois and Clark are married and have twin sons (fraternal twins). The chemisty between Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch is terrific, and the production of the show is far and away better than any other superhero series on the WB. It is close to, if not equal to, theatrical quality in writing, visual effects and pretty much everything else. The episode where Lois realizes that she is in love with Clark and not Superman (she didn't know at the time it was the same person) was really endearing (season 1, episode 11 - "A Brief Reminiscence In-Between Cataclysmic Events").
I love these movies so much! Every time I watch them, I feel like a kid again. Even though Christopher Reeve is no longer among us, he is still one of my biggest heroes.
I always liked the fact that the tv show Smallville cast the actor who played Zod in Superman II as Jor-El... the actor played Chancellor Valorum in Star Wars I: Phantom Menace
You really should watch "Somewhere in Time" where Christopher Reeve costarred with Jane Seymour. It is a love storage you will never forget. The British elderly lady who was a main character had a short part and the producer told her, "You only have 4 words, but everyone will remember those words". The were, "Come back to me." Please you must see it. Such a love story as you have never seen before.
Terence Stamp who played General Zod,was the perfect choice for that character.Did you see 2006 Superman Returns? That story basically picks up what happens after Superman gives up his powers in this movie.
31:42 Mark! When Sonny Bono died while snow skiing because of a tree collision, there just happened to be a rash of snow skiing incidents involving people and trees, back in the 1990s. 😢 Musicians are wary of travel by airplane because so many of them have died because of crashes, going all the way back to Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richie Valenz in the 1950s. However, equestrian incidents don't happen as often. Actress Kaley Cuoco had one, but rather than ending up in a wheelchair as Christpher did, she of her legs was crushed and the bones were replaced by titanium. They did such a good job, that you would have to know where to look to see her scars. Her recovery period is why "Penny" is missing in a few episodes of "The Big Bang Theory". The character "Penny" had a boyfriend who wore a "Superman" costume inspired by Christopher's! 😊
Soon as i saw your Cape Jen it dawned on me one of the gifts i sent would have been perfect for this reaction 🥺. Youre such a romantic jen its no wonder you enjoyed this movie so much . Your sister worked at Niagara falls thats so cool 🙌 im curious now to what job she did there 🤔 . Been a long time since i saw this movie that was fun , cheers jen
7:41 Mark! Thanks for knowing to call it a "LEM"! 🎉😊 By the way! It took too long for "DC" to learn that sound waves require an atmosphere! Once they did, we saw both Superman & Supergirl wearing helmets with an air supply and radios so that they could speak and be heard! 😮😅
There's a deleted scene where at the end of the movie the three villains are arrested and seen in handcuffs. This is important because without it, it looks like Superman kills them which goes against his code. I've even heard there was supposed to be a comedic scene where the depowered General Zod ends up in the same prison with Lex Luthor. However this was never filmed as Hackman had left the project and refused to work for director Richard Lester.
One of the minor gripes I have with evil Kryptonians in Superman movies is they're often portrayed as arrogant for nonsensical reasons. Take the line, "they need machines to fly," in this movie, for example. She utters the line like it's unthinkable that humans couldn't fly when she only found out she could fly a few hours ago herself. If she'd criticized the helicopter as primitive, that would've made more sense.
23:32 Mark! Not just ladies with babies, but school buses! By the way! The "Marlboro" truck is the last time such product placement happens because of the controversy! New movies now have a legal disclaimer in them concerning depictions of smoking and tobacco products! As for the tanker truck? In "Man of Steel" it is one owned by "Lex Corp"! 😅
Christopher Reeve will always be the one and only Superman for me too. The way he switches between dorky Clark Kent and Superman is masterful and nobody else has been able to match his performance in my opinion. I've just found your channel and working my way through some of your old videos, I don't know yet if you've reacted to Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve, if not I recommend it.
27:22 Mark! Aha! The controversial scenes! When those who dislike Superman snapping General Zod's neck in "Man of Steel" make reference to Christopher's "Superman" not being a killer, it is pointed out that in this movie, in this scene, he apparently does let the trio die, if not outright kills them, just by exposing them to the very cold temperatures outside, including under, the "Fortress of Solitude"! 😮 By the way! A contemporary of Superman's known as "Doc Savage, Man of Bronze" also has a "Fortress of Solitude" up there! In the comics Santa Claus is based up there! Somebody at "DC" eventually realized how crowded it must be, so Superman's home was relocated from the frozen Artic Ocean to Antarctica! Being on frozen land there's no cold water for victims to slide down into to their doom! 😮
Superman III was my favourite. I remembering going to see II and III in the cinema and being blown away by the effects lol - still love them all though.
Others have mentioned Somewhere in Time as a good Christopher Reeve period-piece romance. You also might want to try out The Aviator (1985), a survival adventure/romance with Reeve as a mail pilot in the 1920s, and Deathtrap (1982), a murder mystery.
Superman III isn't quite as good as the first two but it's still enjoyable, especially if you like a light-hearted Superman. One sequence in particular is considered among the best in all the movies. It was a good decision to watch the Theatrical Cut for this one. While some people prefer the tone of the Donner Cut, it really isn't a complete film and thus not as suitable for a first viewing.
Superman III is great for Reeves' performance as the good and evil Supermen, one who looks like homelessuperman, one who looks like Clark Kent. It's based on a 'red kryptonite' story from 'Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes: 'Satan Girl' '. Well worth finding, and a year before Captain Kirk got split into good and evil versions. The goofy villains of Superman III (except for how the intelligent Miss Teschmacher would reappear in the Supergirl TV show) would fit better in Batman 1966, but if you can ignore them, it goes quite well.
Rewatching these all for the first time in decades, I actually might have enjoyed II the least out of all of them. The first film has held up pretty well over time and is still very enjoyable to watch. But the second film felt like it wasn't executed to as high of a degree - prob due to the lengthy shooting schedule trying to film both of them, and to the switch in directors. Where as I still found the action entertaining enough in the first, the action in this felt really cheesy and really dated. So when I got around to watching III again it actually felt reinvigorating to watch for me. It still had a ton of flaws and was really cheesy in a lot of ways, but Richard Pryor and all the humor they injected into it at least made it a fun ride. And I dug Annette O'Toole's performance as Lana. I think its kind of a shame they didn't revisit that plot line to some extent in IV and capitalize on Lois's jealousy at the end there. So for me at least, I'd probably rate these movies as I, III, and then a tie between II and IV with maybe even giving a slight edge to IV since I think the the action was at least a little better in IV despite the many silly aspects of that film.
3:28 Mark! Jen, howdy! 🖖 Oh, he does! He's able to use his Superspeed, though. Unlike one of the animated versions in which we see him step into a janitorial closet and then see his silhouette change clothes at regular speed! 😂 Please don't forget Helen Slater's "Supergirl" movie from 1984! It's a British movie, so there's unintentional humor based on their lack of experience with life in Illinois! 😮😅
The original ending of the first film was Superman releasing the rocket into space, which explodes and releases the Kryptonian villains. But they needed to finish the film on time, they used the original end of the second film. They couldn’t afford Brando, so they decided to use Lara instead of Jor-El, which is just *one* difference compared to the Richard Donner Cut.
Perfect timing for this Jen - today's Terence Stamp's (ZOD) birthday! A great sequel - you can actually stop here w/this franchise unfortunately. Indeed Reeve is the ONLY Superman & Kidder for Lois!
Richard Donner who directed the first film was also making superman 2 at the same time as he made them interconnect, unfortunately he was fired because the films were going over budget and managed to finish Superman 1, but was unable to finish 2 as they hired another director who changed the tone, which is why you don't see Marlon Brando as Superman's father. There is a Richard Donner Cut which flows better, I would suggest you watch it next if you can.
Agreed, the Donner cut gives Lois more agency in figuring out Clark is Superman and more footage of Reeve's unique physical portrayal of Clark. Other differences past that likely won't interest Jen as much.
Hey Jen given your love of Romance and Christopher Reeve you should probably watch Somewhere in Time(1980). Maybe not a well known film to react to but you would enjoy on your own time.
Nah. The romance between Christopher Reeve and Michael Caine in Deathtrap (1982) based on the play by Ira Levin (author of a little book you may have heard of--ROSEMARY'S BABY) is, like, SO WOKE 🤣
33:15 Mark! 3.2K Thumbs Up + Mine! You're welcome, and thanks! 😊 Notes: Ahem. Hmm. I'm glad that you enjoyed this movie! Yay! 🎉 But now, at the risk of "spoilers", there are some details that you should know! 😮 Yes, please watch the next two movies with CR and "Supergirl"! Supergirl as "Kara" has Lois Lane's sister Lucy as a roommate and Lucy has a poster of Superman on her wall! It was the last minute option to show how it is connected with Christopher's movies! The movie also introduced Magic to the mythos! The fourth movie has Lex and his nephew! The actor that plays the nephew goes on to play Lex himself in the "Supergirl" television series! But wait, there's more! The first two movies have the "Donner Cut" editions. The movie "Superman Returns" ignores the last two CR movies and the HS movie. Brandon Routh won a Christopher Reeve look-alike contest to help him get the role! The only character not to get recast is Marlon Brando's character! Even the City of Metropolis gets "recast"! 😅 BR goes on to play a different "DC" character for the "Arrowverse" set of shows that includes "Supergirl" and because of "The Crisis On Infinite Earths" he eventually returns as "Superman"! "The Atom" and "Superman" even appear in scenes together! Television series "The Flash" and movie "Flash" even share a scene! The recent "Flash" movie gives us cameos by Christopher and Helen as "Superman" and "Supergirl" in the same scene, side hugging! 🎉 Since you ❤ him, I strongly encourage you to continue your movie journey! For me having Gal Gadot as "Wonder Woman" and Helen Slater as "Supergirl" in the same movie was the best part of it, even as so many others endlessly go on about Batman! 😅
The little comment toward the end "I've been working out," is kinda doubly funny because in prep for Superman, Christopher Reeve worked out and gained about 35 pounds. His trainer was David Prowse (Darth Vader).
Loved your reaction to this. It took me back to my childhood and made me appreciate this film again (understand I was burned out from seeing it so many times), when this movie was new, and it, along with things like the Star Wars trilogy and the Indiana Jones original trilogy - ruled the cinema.
Great reaction jen!!! Glad you enjoy these superman movies, Christopher Reeves is great as superman, Margot kidder will always be lois lane, RIP both of them, hard to believe Perry white(Jackie cooper) was once an original little rascal, can't wait to see your reaction to superman III, it's a decent film as well...thanks again Jen!!..👍👍😉😉

You made the right choice the Donner Cut sucks
Really looking forward to this reaction! This is probably my favourite of the Superman movies! 😎
The Donner cut is a bit rough.
Highly recommend Donner cut.
Superman has so many powers in this movie that he never had before, and never had again. 🤣

That's a fantastic story! Or should I say "super"? I think it's great that you had that shared moment and that memory to last your lifetime.
Superman 3 with an obviously coked out Richard Pryor inserted by the studio execs to boost ticket sales gross was possibly the worst superhero movie I've seen in my life. This one movie was what tarnished an otherwise impeccable comic book hero movie franchise
Has anyone ever noticed that "slap" sound after the little girl goes in to tell her parents that a man flew down and rescued the cat out of the tree?
Everyone does it's what makes the movie and naughty by 70 s standards.
32:40 "Lex Luthor, you're still the worst"
I think you just made him smile 😉
You know, even regular humans can stick their hand into fire for a split-second without getting burned. He wanted to tell her! 😁
As a big fan of Superman and these movies, gotta say I appreciate you just getting into the movie and suspending disbelief as opposed to picking every little thing apart. You definitely get all the reasons the Christopher Reeves Superman movies are so special.
Thanks Paul! Christopher Reeves will always be Superman for me 🥰
christopher reeve was the reason i wanted to be an actor. and him as superman was the reason i got into comics. if not for him as superman, i would never gotten into other superheroes from batman, to spider-man, to captain america, and so on and so forth
@@jenmurrayxo Jen, Superman iii video reactions???
Superman II was by far the best Superman film.
This movie had the one thing i always wanted to see when i was a kid: ACTUAL SUPERVILLAINS! So-called superhero movies and tv shows always went the cheap route. All we got were bank robbers and terrorists, with the occasional mad scientist. But this movie actually WENT THERE!
Thanks for this reaction, so much fun! Love watching these types of things that I grew up on with a fresh set of eyes. 😃
I think we need to get a big, bright yellow letter "J" for Jen's super outfit!!
I recommend seeing both "Superman III" (1983) and "Superman IV: The Quest For Peace" (1987)!
I watched this film SO many times growing up. I definitely prefer it to the first one. I had a bit of a thing for Sarah Douglas, too!

17:32 "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!"
28:39 "Yay...THAT was a Super-kiss"
Well, I guess this IS the perfect movie.
20:01 Fun Fact: Rocky is played by the late Pepper Martin, who was born in my hometown of Hamilton, Onatrio.

Superman 3 had the most scary scene of them all, I am of course talking about the infamous Robot lady scene
I love this 🥰
@@jenmurrayxo I'm glad you got your kiss 💋 great movies 1&2.

Where's Superman III? Come back and finish this series. It's a must see.
The best Lois and Clark romance in my opinion is in the 90's series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman".
Awesome reaction btw!!
Been a minute since I’ve heard anyone describe a crush as dashing. A term that needs to resurface to be sure.
The other thing is, the fortress of solitude computer probably should have had some way to detect if a threat has arrived on Earth and it should have alerted Superman. 😲
The chemistry between Clark and Lois was very heartwarming
Margot Kidder really wasn’t a good Lois Lane.
@@DeltaAssaultGaming I never read the comic books but I thought she was great and now I compare other actresses to Margot’s interpretation.
@@DeltaAssaultGaming having read Superman comics for 40 years I can tell you Margot Kidder was the perfect Lois Lane. Smart, brave and true. Amy Adams is just sort of there, she doesn't show any of the spirit or wit of the comic book Lois.
Gene is hilarious and I love his delivery, even though the script makes Luthor too much of a joke.

“I want the man I fell in love with”
“I wish he was here”
The superhero romance dilemma summed up in 2 lines…and I love how you reacted to it!
During one take of the shot in which Lois punches Ursa, Margot Kidder accidentally punched Sarah Douglas and knocked her unconscious.
Sarah Douglas... man what a smokeshow 😍
She didn't star in many blockbuster roles, but she was in several shows in the 70's and 80's... absolute bombshell.
She went on to be a great voice actress, and you've probably heard her voice in many DC animated movies and series.
@@Grizzlox I've actually met Sarah Douglas. She always played evil villains but she couldn't be nicer in real life.

I loved seeing the people of New York, uh Metropolis, willing to confront the Kryptonians.

And when his wife died, too. So sad.
MVP goes to Super Man , Clark Kent , Christopher Reeves They all get it 😂😂😂

You actually can trust Luthor… to be untrustworthy. 😁
The later sequels are not as beloved, but I hope you will still watch. Reeve is great in all of them.
Awesome reaction. You almost had me shed a tear before that Super-kiss 😂
👍
I always liked the fact that the tv show Smallville cast the actor who played Zod in Superman II as Jor-El... the actor played Chancellor Valorum in Star Wars I: Phantom Menace
Don't forget who played Clark's mum. Lana from the original film. Margot and Christopher also appeared.

22:37 Mark! There is at least one funny meme of actor Neal Patrick Harris stepping in front of this version of the "General Zod" character! 😂😅
Happy Birthday to Terence “General Zod” Stamp!
Musicians are wary of travel by airplane because so many of them have died because of crashes, going all the way back to Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richie Valenz in the 1950s.

By the way! It took too long for "DC" to learn that sound waves require an atmosphere! Once they did, we saw both Superman & Supergirl wearing helmets with an air supply and radios so that they could speak and be heard! 😮😅
BEST Superman movie EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"It's gonna be a long walk back from the Ice Palace." Yeah, I don't think he and Lois quite thought that through! 😝

That movie is soooo good! ❤
If you REALLY want to see a dashing Christopher Reeve, then you should watch his romantic period drama, "Somewhere in Time."
Great movie, better get some tissues tho.
By the way!
Maureen McCormick recorded a cover of Can You Read My Mind. This was the same woman that performed the theme song for The Poseidon Adventure(1972).

Superman III was my favourite. I remembering going to see II and III in the cinema and being blown away by the effects lol - still love them all though.
I love how the depowering chamber fills Clark’s face in with bone and blood vessels.
The Donner cut is every bit as complete as the theatrical cut.
i like part 3 as well. but i have to ask the sequence you're talking about. that is considered the best. i have never heard of this
@@rfridaythe13th junkyard
Please don't forget Helen Slater's "Supergirl" movie from 1984!
To my knowledge, he is physically and dressing. He’s just doing it so fast you don’t see it.
Perfect timing for this Jen - today's Terence Stamp's (ZOD) birthday! A great sequel - you can actually stop here w/this franchise unfortunately. Indeed Reeve is the ONLY Superman & Kidder for Lois!
Kneel before ZOD!
The rest can be fun if you absolutely don't take them seriously and understand there were many issues with filming and budget
My friend and I quote this movie all the time. One of those rare times when the sequel is as good or better than the original.
This was the best sequel ever
👍

But now, at the risk of "spoilers", there are some details that you should know! 😮
Yes, please watch the next two movies with CR and "Supergirl"!
BR goes on to play a different "DC" character for the "Arrowverse" set of shows that includes "Supergirl" and because of "The Crisis On Infinite Earths" he eventually returns as "Superman"! "The Atom" and "Superman" even appear in scenes together!
Television series "The Flash" and movie "Flash" even share a scene!
The recent "Flash" movie gives us cameos by Christopher and Helen as "Superman" and "Supergirl" in the same scene, side hugging! 🎉
Since you ❤ him, I strongly encourage you to continue your movie journey! For me having Gal Gadot as "Wonder Woman" and Helen Slater as "Supergirl" in the same movie was the best part of it, even as so many others endlessly go on about Batman! 😅
I love when Zod called Lex the Ruler of Australia. no one tops Gene Hackman as Lex Luther
The little comment toward the end "I've been working out," is kinda doubly funny because in prep for Superman, Christopher Reeve worked out and gained about 35 pounds. His trainer was David Prowse (Darth Vader).
You would probably enjoy the Lois & Clark tv series. It focuses on the love story between the two.
I can't wait to see you react to Superman 3. These videos are awesome 👍
This is my favorite Superman movie.
Another rewatch done, Jen. I shall do some more for you and your channel tomorrow. 🙂
Really appreciate it Adam! ☺️
@@jenmurrayxo My pleasure, Jen.
