The blade that Hunter and Wrecker use are called vibroblades. They are electrically charged blades so they also act as an EMP. Rebels is not bad, just like clone wars it takes time in worldbuilding. But after season 1 it takes off amazingly. The thing is that rebels does not follow the 'story arc' type storytelling, that's why many episodes may feel like fillers but they do have consequences.

On one hand, chronological order is often better so it would make sense to watch The Bad Batch before Rebels. But in this special case, maybe your order is smarter. Rebels has 75 episodes (if I remember the number right) and Mandalorian has 16. So it will take a while to watch all this and maybe the Bad Batch series is finished when you start with it and then you can watch it in a row while people like me have to wait a year for season 2 :)
You should definitely judge Rebels after watching it yourself. People say Season 1 is bad, but people told you the same about Clone Wars Season 1 and you ended up enjoying it. I'm hoping it's the same with Rebels cause there's some great stuff in season 1 that people overlook because they were so butthurt that Clone Wars was cancelled and they wanted Rebels to have the same art style and same dark tone instead of judging it for what it is.
Most of the channels that I have watched react to rebels loved it. He should definitely ignore the people who say it sucks because it most surely does not.
Season 3 was the best, narrowly followed by 2 and 4. Season 1 was still pretty good, just tamer. That said, the widespread Imperial goofiness and incompetence does drag down the level of threat at times.
I marathoned Clone Wars with my friend, and as we neared Rebels, I downplayed it and told him we would only watch a handful of "essential" episodes. But after watching the first episode, he instantly fell in love with it and we ended up watching the whole series.
I still remember seeing the story reels of this arc at star wars celebration and it was so cool. And seeing it fully animated is even better! I love how Wrecker uses a republic commando gun Dave Filoni actually told us Echo was alive after the inital cancellation. Then of course we saw how he would’ve returned with the story reels

I love how Dee Bradley Baker is the voice of all the clones but gave them different tempos and pitch levels to make them unique on their own. It's absolutely amazing.
@@maul8384 And there's a reason for that,but while a show about overpowered bad asses is pretty cool at first, it can get really stale quickly, as a bunch of guys powering through any obstacles they face, doesn't really have the most story potential. Another problem that arises is that you have to throw something at them that challenges them, but since they're overpowered the thing they have to go against has to be even overpowered and when they defeat the challenge you have throw something even more powerful at them. At that point it goes into a loop where everything becomes so ridiculously powerful, it jumps the shark. While I'm not saying that the Bad Batch being op in the show couldn't work, I am saying it most likely wouldn't.
Fun Fact: There was going to be 2, 4 part arcs starring the Bad Batch. This one in which the reels were released back in 2015 and one more where they teamed up with Yoda on Kasshyyk and with Wookies.

The first episode of season 7! When this first came out and was all we had of the new season, I rewatched this episode like 10 times until the next episode came out.
Think about it, this entire episode (and a lot of the show as a whole) is just Dee Bradley Baker (the voice actor for the Clones) talking to himself. XD It's even better once we get to The Bad Batch show, when he's every main character in the show, almost.
Clone Force 99 - If You didn't know The Bad Batch is also a tv show -- clone wars spinoff. These episodes were their introduction - Also whoever told you Rebels was bad, must have been on crack. No other way to sugar coat it. It's AMAZING. You'll dig it.

I think people complained at first because it was a different animation style, but once your past the new animation style there is nothing really to complain about. The characters are a hit right from the off, and they only get better with the deepening characterisation as the show develops and unrolls.
My personal problem with rebels is that it feels very childish at times and that whole thing with the inquisitors using their lightsabers to fly was really, like REALLY stupid but otherwise I like it too

And I actually LOVE those crazy force elements that were introduced. I'm a sucker for that stuff hahah I think it's really a matter of personal preference. The main reasons I prefer Rebels to TCW is the way the story flows, how it focus on the same core characters throughout (which I loved) plus the rebellion era is my favourite overall. Alsoooo it served as the introduction of my new favorite character, Thrawn! There are many other reasons why I love it but I'd be writing all night 😂

Both shows have their childish moments and their darker moments. I think TCW had some things that went a bit darker than Rebels did but it also has a lot of moments that went way more childish. I don't remember seeing any Jar Jar type characters in Rebels that made me roll my eyes as much. I did love all of the characters. Some I wasn't crazy about at first but they really grew on me. I love the connections to the other shows/movies as well. I know Primate goes into things and makes up his own mind and I think he'll end up liking this one too. I'm sure he'll miss the old TCW crew though.
nah, rebels is all good, all the time. and 100% necessary to watch before mandalorian *edit: just because something can be lighthearted doesn’t mean it is completely childish. and just because something can sometimes be lighthearted doesn’t mean it is all the times lighthearted. rebels, by the end of it and in many ways, can often be more emotionally impactful than even a lot of the stuff from clone wars. it’s good. it goes somewhere. it builds on clone wars and sets up mando. it’s got some of the best moments in all of star wars. it’s good.

Not long after the show was cancelled after season 5, Lucasfilm released a bunch of unfinished stuff that only been partially animated. They released a couple of short clips along with two full length story arcs. This was one of them, so it was really cool to finally see it fully animated after all these years. The second arc was one about Anakin and Obi-Wan trying to steal a giant kyber crystal from Grievous. Like I said, there were a bunch of short unfinished clips released too, but my personal favorite is one showing a western style duel between Cad Bane and Boba Fett decked out in his classic green armor, which is meant to explain how he got that iconic dent in his helmet
I really liked the kyber crystal arc (especially as I think I remember it involving them discussing Ahsoka and trying to work through that) and kind of wish they'd done that one to instead of spending 4 episodes with Trace and Rafa (I think they are fine, but just that it could have been two episodes). Plus it ties into Rogue One a bit as well!
Definitely play “Republic Commando” if you haven’t! It’s one of the main inspirations for the Bad Batch. They’ve put references to the game in Clone Wars before (the protagonists Delta Squad cameo in the Savage Oppress arc and Captain Gregor was a clone commando too) but the Bad Batch is the first time a clone commando squad has had a major role in Disney Star Wars
rebels season 1 is like clone wars season 1, little more kiddy, little less in their stride, but then after that season it gets wicked good, the lore that introduced is crazy

Btw, before you start Rebels, there’s some Rebels shorts they released before the show premiered. They’re neat little intros to the hero characters. One of them even gets a callback in the show. They’re on Disney+
Good idea, they can be watched in one sitting, just make one video on them, its only about 12 minutes of content but good introductions to the characters
Not gonna lie i have only ever watched clone wars in release order. The whole chronological timeline is too much work and it makes just as much sense to watch in release order.

Yep, The Bad Batch you see in this story arc is what you see in the new TV show that just completed its first season last month. The series starts right before Order 66 starts and covers how the Empire was formed. It's good stuff and it was renewed for a second season. Not sure when that will air. But hopefully it will at least be aired by the time you finish Rebels and The Mandalorian because it's going to take a while get through those. But you're right. You need to see Rebels first before watching The Mandalorian. You don't need to see The Bad Batch. And actually you'll love the pilot episode of The Bad Batch better if you watch Rebels first. You'll see why I said that if you remember this comment.
The bad batch starts right at the end of the clone wars series where it leaves off. And when I mean the end i mean the very very end of the Clone wars. That end yes
I definitely agree that you need to see Rebels before Mandalorian. And here's the thing - I LOVED Rebels. I did not like Clone Wars very much the first time I watched it; the movie, first season and Ahsoka's early characterization really turned me off (plus I just didn't really love the idea that Anakin had a padawan we never knew about and that this character ends up being super important but then we never hear about her again). Eventually it did grow on me, but I think the low points of TCW are lower than the low points of Rebels...although I'd argue that the high points of TCW are among the highest in Star Wars. I still don't really love Ahsoka, even in later seasons (I have issues with the Season 5 arc that kind of ruin its impact for me). But I loved Rebels from the first episode - it's more of an ensemble show so it follows a tighter perspective, but I also loved the art style and music style (more heavily influenced by McQuarrie and classic Williams) and I loved the characters. I think it's more consistent in quality and it does have some really amazing developments and character relationships. After seeing this I am also really excited for you to get to TBB. I think after the awesomeness of The Mandalorian for some people it felt like a little bit of a let down, but it's still a really fun show, and I think given the things you loved here you will love it. "The Bad Batch rides for each other"...oof.
Rebels has some of my favorite moments in Star Wars so judge it for yourself. Plus it has some important plot points in it for the Mandalorian. The people who don't like it mostly don't like the art style (its different but based on the concept art of Ralph Mcquarrie for the first movie made in 1977) and forget that Season 1 of the Clone Wars was "more kiddish" while ignoring that Rebels gets more mature after Season 1. The other complaint I hear is you don't see all the violence since the rating is lower meant to allow young kids to watch with their families ignoring how messed up some of those deaths even without seeing all the details. Honestly, I think most of those people who complain were just so mad Clone Wars was cancelled they were biased against Rebels and never were going to like it. I don't think the bad things in it are any worse than the bad stuff in Clone Wars. As for order, I don't think it would hurt to see Season 1 of Bad Batch and watch Season 2 while it comes out as it introduces some of the Rebels characters early years. It might be fun to see them in Bad Batch before you start Rebels but its up to you.
To be honest the last 4 episodes should be considered as a movie and should be watched as such. I watch this so many times just to soak in every background moment epic moment, reference and more B-1 battle droid: Do you know what's going on? Second B-1: maybe it's another drill? New hope reference 😝😖
If you are going in chronological order, then you should start with the Bad Batch series before going into Rebels, because the events of The Bad Batch starts during the last moments of the Clone Wars thus before the events of Rebels.
Normally I’d agree but if you have all the previous knowledge of Rebels and Mando, it makes Bad Batch more enjoyable imo (especially for a certain two parter in the middle of that season)
I feel like Bad Batch would have the best impact if watched directly after clone wars/revenge of the Sith, but I guess waiting isn’t bad either since it’s what the rest of us did and also we’re still waiting on season 2. There is some stuff in there that works best if you lead right into it though and a few things that tie it to rebels. I just can’t wait for you to see some of the stuff in Rebels and mando though. Don’t let the change in art style throw you off of rebels. There is some straight up banger stuff in there some of the best stuff I’ve seen from Star Wars lore in fact.

It's kinda nice that we go back and focus on the clone characters before the end. Rex, Cody, Jesse, Kix, and Echo have been around for so long now.

Yep, The Bad Batch you see in this story arc is what you see in the new TV show that just completed its first season last month. The series starts right before Order 66 starts and covers how the Empire was formed. It's good stuff and it was renewed for a second season. Not sure when that will air. But hopefully it will at least be aired by the time you finish Rebels and The Mandalorian because it's going to take a while get through those.
But you're right. You need to see Rebels first before watching The Mandalorian. You don't need to see The Bad Batch. And actually you'll love the pilot episode of The Bad Batch better if you watch Rebels first. You'll see why I said that if you remember this comment.

I definitely agree that you need to see Rebels before Mandalorian. And here's the thing - I LOVED Rebels. I did not like Clone Wars very much the first time I watched it; the movie, first season and Ahsoka's early characterization really turned me off (plus I just didn't really love the idea that Anakin had a padawan we never knew about and that this character ends up being super important but then we never hear about her again). Eventually it did grow on me, but I think the low points of TCW are lower than the low points of Rebels...although I'd argue that the high points of TCW are among the highest in Star Wars. I still don't really love Ahsoka, even in later seasons (I have issues with the Season 5 arc that kind of ruin its impact for me).
But I loved Rebels from the first episode - it's more of an ensemble show so it follows a tighter perspective, but I also loved the art style and music style (more heavily influenced by McQuarrie and classic Williams) and I loved the characters. I think it's more consistent in quality and it does have some really amazing developments and character relationships.
After seeing this I am also really excited for you to get to TBB. I think after the awesomeness of The Mandalorian for some people it felt like a little bit of a let down, but it's still a really fun show, and I think given the things you loved here you will love it. "The Bad Batch rides for each other"...oof.

Rebels has some of my favorite moments in Star Wars so judge it for yourself. Plus it has some important plot points in it for the Mandalorian. The people who don't like it mostly don't like the art style (its different but based on the concept art of Ralph Mcquarrie for the first movie made in 1977) and forget that Season 1 of the Clone Wars was "more kiddish" while ignoring that Rebels gets more mature after Season 1. The other complaint I hear is you don't see all the violence since the rating is lower meant to allow young kids to watch with their families ignoring how messed up some of those deaths even without seeing all the details. Honestly, I think most of those people who complain were just so mad Clone Wars was cancelled they were biased against Rebels and never were going to like it. I don't think the bad things in it are any worse than the bad stuff in Clone Wars.
As for order, I don't think it would hurt to see Season 1 of Bad Batch and watch Season 2 while it comes out as it introduces some of the Rebels characters early years. It might be fun to see them in Bad Batch before you start Rebels but its up to you.

If you are going in chronological order, then you should start with the Bad Batch series before going into Rebels, because the events of The Bad Batch starts during the last moments of the Clone Wars thus before the events of Rebels.
Normally I’d agree but if you have all the previous knowledge of Rebels and Mando, it makes Bad Batch more enjoyable imo (especially for a certain two parter in the middle of that season)

I feel like Bad Batch would have the best impact if watched directly after clone wars/revenge of the Sith, but I guess waiting isn’t bad either since it’s what the rest of us did and also we’re still waiting on season 2. There is some stuff in there that works best if you lead right into it though and a few things that tie it to rebels. I just can’t wait for you to see some of the stuff in Rebels and mando though. Don’t let the change in art style throw you off of rebels. There is some straight up banger stuff in there some of the best stuff I’ve seen from Star Wars lore in fact.
