Actually he had unstable knee that was prone to injury. If he wasn't an athlete he'd do just fine but like you said, his playing style killed his knee at just 23 yo.

Ronaldo aka R9 is the most complete striker to have played the beautiful game. He terrorized the greatest of defenders in Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Marcel Desaille, Lilian Thuram and Fabio Canavarro. Not to mention ridiculing the greatest goalkeeper in the history, Oliver Kahn. And that too in the World Cup 2002 Final. R9 was truly the El Fenomeno and the magnificent beast who was from another planet. Knee injuries robbed him of at least 3 years of his prime. Still, he is still talked about to this day. If only the OG Ronaldo played in today's era against today's defenders, he would have ended up with 1000 goals at least in International and Club Football. Ronaldo R9 is the best footballer I have ever seen. What he could do with a Football at his feet, no one came close. He was the most complete player ever alongside King Pele.

@@WolfIsco CR7 only referred to as cristiano, not Ronaldo back in the days. Ofc he is legendary, longevity matters too. But in terms of dominance, peak R9 was THE ONE. Even if CR7 scores 1000 more goals, will still not match predecessors as defenders in later era has no pride and happily accept the fact you are beaten. Also the game has changed into exhibition kindergarten games rather than competition. Regardless, CR7's work ethic is role model for any professionals.
Let's just say that number 9 is his , in any team in any life..

The greatest striker the world have ever seen
It’s funny when people say the current defenders are much faster which maybe true. But the most extraordinary thing about R9 was that he had power pace and absolute mind boggling control at the same time. Even the hardest hitting CBs couldn’t move him off the ball in stride. Let’s just picture a quick wingback trying to push him off the ball or a smaller frame CB in this new era. And let’s not forget he played in an era much less tactical and was considered a one man army striker he could take it from the midfield line to the opposing box unphased and he did not have to sneak in from the wing to do it either lol. I love Messi and CR7 but tactics helped their dominance more than anything.

Mostly his injuries were due to the style of football at that time. Football was very agressive and physical at that time and the types of tackles that were allowed are not allowed now. Messi probably would not even make into starting 11 in 90s.

Muitas vezes a gente vê o futebol antigo e fica clara a evolução do nível e compreendimento geral do jogo, e que talvez hoje em dia a maioria das estrelas do passado mesmo em seu maior auge, não brilhariam.
Analizando, porém, a performance de Ronaldo em sua posição pode-se perceber que atualmente há uma carência de jogadores que cumpram o que ele fazia VINTE anos atrás PÓS cirurgias e estando quase DOIS ANOS parado.. Muitos times NÃO TÊM um finalizador em alto nível e "um Ronaldo cairia bem", incluindo a Seleção atual do Brasil (2022). Lembrando que isso tudo em relação à ele PÓS cirurgias... Quando ele estava voando no Barça, na Inter e até mesmo possivelmente no começo de sua carreira internacional na PSV, o Fenômeno era mais explosivo e rápido em decisões, realmente fora de série. Aquele Ronaldinho eu posso cravar com tranquilidade que em qualquer time que se preze HOJE, teria no final da temporada o primeiro lugar em artilharia. Não tem como não ser. Ele era MUITO bizarro. UMA LENDA VIVA.
