Honestly I still haven't ever seen the movie but the first time I heard this song, I thought the backing music sounded SO much like something Hans Zimmer would write. It wasn't until I heard Time from the Inception soundtrack years later that I realized this wasn't the original version of If I Lost You AND that I was right.
It's not a direct copy with the notes though, which is what WOULD get anyone into trouble. However, since they only used the tonality and similar structure to 'Time', they're in the green! Besides, the band were fully aware of what they were doing, so much so to use a quote from the film itself during promotion with a slight alteration.
