Rifugio Bolzano - Alpe di Suisi e Sciliar

The "castle in the mountains", from the outside Rifugio Bolzano impresses with a fairy tale charme. Located on the top of Sciliar/Schlern, its panorama opens its view on the Denti di Terrarossa, Catinaccio, and Latemar. The inside is a simple, traditional mountain refuge, which never seems to lose its winter cold in its walls.
We planned an overnight stay there, a first night of a multi-day hike - however, given the weather conditions, we cancelled the other nights and decided to just enjoy the Sciliar hike and its beautiful panorama on Alpe di Suisi. You can do Rifugio Bolzano and return easily in one day, however, we started at about lunch time and enjoyed the social part of overnight stays in the mountains - and not so much the temperatures.
Please, only go to the mountains well equipped - especially to the Dolomites. And, please, respect no fly zones - Parco Naturale Sciliar-Catinaccio is like all natural and national parks in Italy such a no fly zone.
