Hilario Durán feat. by WDR BIG BAND - Opening 2 / Mambo Influenciado

For several concerts entitled "Cuban Night," Cuban pianist and composer Hilario Duran brings Latin jazz to the WDR Funkhaus.
In the rehearsal, the WDR Big Band plays "Opening 2," composed and arranged by Hilario Duran (solos: Karoline Strassmayer, saxophone, and Ludwig Nuss, trombone), followed directly by the track "Mambo Influenciado" (K: Chucho Valdés; A: Hilario Durán). Recorded at the rehearsal in WDR Studio 4 at the WDR Funkhaus. Solos are played by Johan Hörlen on saxophone and Hilario Durán on piano.

It's rare to have two altos with such power and ability in one big band .....

This man Hilario arranged my first Latin track that I vocally recorded at the Wellesly Sound Studio in Canada some years ago, it was an absolutely pleasure to record that track while watching this man and his orchestra work. Magic! Musica Picante! Thanks Hilario!!!

For some funny reason it reminds me that some of the big bands in the Military are fabulous. Poke around. I've heard some insane arrangements. Been big on Hilario since the 80's.

Mal was ganz anderes ....... woran erkennt man im Detail eine gutes Orchester oder Bigband. Abgesehen von der spielerischen Qualität. Nun, gewiss AUCH an dem sauber geschriebenen LESBAREN Notenmaterial in der entsprechenden Schreib-Größe und Vergrößerung der Partitur. Hier entdecke ich SIE (oder dass) WIEDER. Ein sauber durchdachtes Notenmaterial. Das ist für mich als ehemaliger Semi-Musiker das Hauptmanko. Bei den meisten Bands gibt es eine A4 Noten-Mappe zum Rätselraten oder Geübte haben oft ein Tablett dabei, weil Sie bereits auswendig spielen. Mannomann bzw. Frau. Es gibt viel Geschriebenes im Notenversand zu kaufen, aber entweder ist es auf lapprigen Papier im Kleindrucker schlecht kopiert, oder wenn fünf Musiker im Orchester Tod umfallen, dann merkt es keiner, weil es immer noch in-etwa-klingt. Ich lechze manchmal nach den riesigen Arrangements von Peter H. ( Seelig ) oder H. Last Biografie). DASS macht einen Profi-Arrangeur oder Orchesterleiter aus. Eine noch so kleine öffentliche Rundfunkanstalt achtet darauf, dass es im Zeitablauf nicht hakt. Bei noch so guten Amateure-Ensembles wird nur darauf geachtet, dass es nicht zu sperrig in der Handhabung ist und optisch von vorne nicht stört. Wer schon einmal mit sehr guten Galas-Künstlern gearbeitet hat, weis wovon ich rede, wenn die Augen die vielen Noten gleiten, meist über zwei Pulte verlängert WENIGSTENS lesbar sind, um den oft grenzdebilen Inhalt schon mal in der Probe zu erfassen. Ja, warum schreibe ich dies eigentlich, evtl. Liest es mal einer meiner Ensemble-Leiter, die meine Vergrößerungen irritiert betrachten ...

Lastima años de años y no cambian las sonoridad en arreglos..repiten lo mismo... siempre es que el nivel de Chucho Valdez será inigualable..y algunos pianistas cubanos actuales no muestran innovación etc.. igual ésto es un buen trabajo .. pero desafortunadamente nada novedoso...😔
