- Seventeen-year-old Tanya Crandell (Simone Joy Jones) can’t wait to spend the summer living it up with her friends in Spain before heading to Howard University in the fall. But when her mom (Ms. Pat) decides to head to a much-needed wellness retreat in Thailand, Tanya is forced to stay home with her three siblings instead. Following the unexpected death of their elderly babysitter (June Squibb), Tanya gets a job working for the confident and ambitious Rose (Nicole Richie). Juggling work, family, and a complicated romance, Tanya faces the responsibility of adulthood at the cost of her summer of freedom.
This movie was a product of its time. Today in the social media age, a company will find out an employee is a teenager and mom will find out the babysitter is dead pretty quick.

The trailer looked better than the movie. The original was nothing special to me so could have been a great remake. Went to see Ms. Pat. Wished we got to see her doing funny stuff throughout to contrast the kids misadventures. Wish for Tyra banks instead of Nicole Richie.

In the original, the mom left money for the kids. But when the babysitter died, they couldn’t find it. So the sister got a job so they could continue enjoying their parent free summer vacation.

"Reimagined" = We drained all the fun and redeeming characteristics from the movie and churned out the leftover slop for the room-temperature IQ "modern audiences"
The original "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead" was an awesome film about overcoming challenges, earning your way to success, and maturing. Politically-speaking, it's also a very (lowercase L) libertarian movie (making money, being independent, shouldering responsibilities for yourself and others). There's no way this "reimagining" is going to have the sophistication to carry those lessons -- it'll be the woke slop about victimhood and being obnoxious to spite the waycists that we've all come to expect.
To be fair, the film makers should've have done the proper thing and race-swapped the babysitter too -- she could've been an old, traditional black woman trying to reign in the kids and impart some wisdom, but the things she might've said would have hit too close to home and led to firings at BET as a result.
What in the Mean Girls 2024 remake was that!!?

Easy money, tax write-off, and the ability to say "see! we have diversity in our movies!"
It's all about making as much money as possible with as little risk as possible. That's why remakes, reboots, sequels, and adaptations are the name of the game. Low risk, high reward. The budget for this looks pretty low for a mainstream movie so if it doesn't turn a profit then the studio won't panic.
Studios nowadays treat movies as a business, not an art form.
