- Botswana Threatens to Send 20,000 Elephants to Germany | Vantage with Palki Sharma
The nation of Botswana in Southern Africa is an elephant conservation success story. The country is home to one-third of the world's elephants. Over 130,000 elephants roam Botswana, where they are protected from poachers and other threats. But to sustain its conservation efforts, Botswana resorts to allowing elephant hunts. Botswana says the money from trophy hunts goes into conservation efforts. But Europe seems to be uncomfortable with this. Germany plans to make it more difficult for its citizens to import hunting trophies. In response to Germany's unilateral move, the President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi has threatened to send them a "gift" of 20,000 elephants.

I am a citizen of Botswana and my president is right. We are tired of European lectures. When they developed their countries they didn't consider animal habitats. Their drive was to civilize themselves and dominate the world. When it comes to Africa they want us consider animal rights over human rights.

Maybe the tourist should have been more careful. To many stupid and disrespectful people in the world
This video makes me want to move to Botswana. It sounds amazing there
Not to mention the havoc on crops. Just one elephant eats more than 149kgs per day. When a herd passes through your farm, that's the end of your agricultural career. And that happens even in my country Zambia. The West will never understand because they think Africa is one huge jungle meant for animals with humans encroaching on the animals land. And they think elephants have a lifetime supply of green food growing in abundance. The reality is that elephants are destructive, they uproot trees that took years to grow, leaving the terrain bare. Deforestation and desertification follow, and they move on to people's farms. The West would rather see elephants thrive than humans. A sad reality.
Botswana can redistribute elephants to other African nations
Send them to India. We can take care of them.
“Making mammoth mistakes…” Smoooooth Palki! That’s a smooth punchline seeing you’re on about elephants that looks largely like mammoths 😂
i liked that too, lol 😊
Nice! I didn't catch that until you pointed this out....
Europeans always want to preach what they dont practice.
Not all Europeans. Poland doesn’t interfere in Africa or Asian governments.
Here in the USA, various states have specific hunting seasons for animals such as moose, elks, wolves, bears, wild boars, deers, alligators etc. States such as Florida, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Wyoming etc generate funds from hunting license fees and keep the animal population in check. Hunting is a multi-billion dollar industry in America supporting tens of thousands of jobs.
West should not lecture Botswana. Period. I say this as an American citizen,
So has Germany confronted US yet? I guess the president is afraid of US and feels like bullying those Africans. I remember a couple of months ago another German political figure went to Namibia and questioned the Namibian president why he’s allowing Chinese to take over his country? It's because Brazil's part of the Amazon Rainforest is depleting rapidly, at a way higher rate than its neighbouring countries' which share the Amazon Rainforest with them, it's especially bad because Brazil has the biggest share of the Amazon Rainforest.

When did western countries will give money, technology transfer,
Because historically your biggest polluters.
You have destroyed forest all over world
Then give millions of piranha in germany
The reason why our elephant population is out of control is because they migrate in large numbers from neighbouring countries where poaching is rife, to Botswana where 38% of the land is dedicated to wildlife conservation and therefore safer for animals. We are now having instances where elephants are found thousands of kilometers away from the areas where they were historically found. They are quickly outnumbering the area, which they have to share with orher species, and now moving towards areas occupied by humans, which are also limited as 80% of Botswana is covered by the Kgalagadi desert. We are doing our best, and if we could find a country to safely relocate excess numbers to, that would be an easy option.

@@mrwaeta1 Would you kill people if there are too many of them? I wouldn't. Elephants instead of getting killed could be transported to other places maybe in another countries. Also you did not appear to have read my full comment because I suggested to have special patrols to dissuade elephants.
How about Africa takes care of it? Africa, lose our number will ya.
100 % Totally Agree with You 👍👋
20,000 elephants? To Germany? Now THAT'S a lot of scnitzel!
So germany bans hunting trophies in its country to disincentive the killing of endangers species and Botswana throws a fit because this could effect their bottom line...
Temples in Southern India will be ready to take these elephants. And they take good care of elephants. Infact they respect the animal for being the deity's carrier during festivals.
Not African elephants 😅
@@prasanthivasu why not. All elephants can be trained. We have expert mahouts who can manage this.
@@AMPA33 👌🏽👌🏽

Please, think before you speak. There are thousands of them over there and the grazing land is getting scarce.
Now in Germany, the autobahns would be flooded with elephants, therefore the Germans should send
all of their Benz , Audi and BMW vehicles to Botswana.
Fantastic idea. Even exchange. 😁😁😁!
Since germany & European union like to carbon tax in the name of climate change to developping countries. They should ride elephants.now instead of bmw mercedes. 😆
Very good idea
Uhm.
Picking a Fight ?
Threatening ????
Germany has not even Responded to this yet.
Which is not Surprising.
1.
Germany is CONSIDERING to "Limit" not "Ban" Hunting Trophy Imports.
This Generally means Germany is considering to put Regulations on the Import of Hunting Trophies like this. Which ensure that Hunting Trophies can only be Imported in a Sustainable Fashin and only from Countries which properly Manage their Wildlife Reserves.
In all Likelihood. Botswana which has a Proven Track Record of Properly Managing its Wildlife Reserves and has a Growing Population of Elephants. Only allowing Hunting to Control the Elephant Population.
Would never be Affected by this Law in the First Place.
2.
Botswana likely does not have the Ressources to Send 20.000 Elephants anywhere to be Honest.
3.
If Germany were to Ban Imports of Hunting Trophies. What Stops Germany from Banning Imports of Elephants and simply not allowing any Transports of Elephants to Enter the Country ?
Whats Botswana gonna do ?
Use its Navy to Stage an Invasion of Germany and Forcibly Unload the Elephants in Germany Ports after Capturing them ??? lol
So Yeah....
Nice Story for Cheese Paper News.
But really not more than that.
Germany will probably make a petting zoos and make money off of showing the elephants. So , whats the point? To help Germany?
Botswana 🇧🇼 is very beautiful Country in the World.
One of the best and safest countries to live in, Bots has done better than most European countries for many years in terms of standard of living.
Nope

We in South Africa support the Botswana Government and its people. Conservation is very expensive so anything that can support that should be supported.
The logistics alone of shipping 20000 elephants would be a nightmare lol
When animals are not properly controlled, they become problems not only Botswana but also in Australia, the US etc. Invite us Nigerians for some level of control. But bare it in mind that the elephants may become suddenly extinct.
😂😂😂
Don't take mercy from elephants granted,if they will decide to go for war;humans will be extinct.

To anyone saying Botswana should donate, they do that but it's not as easy as moving cattle
Lol 🤣 zoo keeper will be waiting for it 😂
Germans running to their bunkers!
Botswana must do it since the Westerners always speak of human & animal rights to expose their hypocracy.
Germany : MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. Fixed you economy. Heard it's not GOOD lately 😂😂😂
Germany will release 200,000 mice to scare the elephants.
👌😆
Nice
If they do that Germany would have to go without food 😂
Other countries: those damn rats! Possums! Roaches! Spiders! Ants!
Botswana: I know, I know! Elephants!
Pretend to be whaaaat🤣🤣🤣🤣palki always leaves speechless and stitches 🤣🤣
I thought Germany had big pronlems of their own.
Germany did not place sanctions on Botswana, did not ask Botswana to stop the culling, and did not ask German citizens to stop hunting elephants in Botswana. They just banned the import of elephant parts as trophies into their country. Stop overreacting. This is not good journalism.
Nonsense... there aren't 20000 elephants in Botswana!!😂 BUT, money is talking again i AFRICA!!
WELL DONE GERMANY!!! NONSENSE...
how do you get them to Germany and who pay's for it - great thread
Send them to kenya please.
U already have m23😂😂😂 why u need elephant
Trophy hunting is just sadistic and borderline sociopathic. Send the elephants to other African countries where the elephant populations are lower. Example Kenya, Ethiopia , Tanzania.
I agree. They can send them to other African countries.
The reason those African countries have low numbers is because they have been poached to near extinction. Obviously that would happen again if they did so. There is a reason why Botswana has a population of elephants that is actually almost 3 times its carrying capacity, it is because of its formidable conservation efforts that the elephants thrived here while others were dropping like flies. And for your information they did try to send them to another African country at one point but the elephants came back.
Should send them to europe
@@thembilemajafe1165 😂😂😂
@@thembilemajafe1165 Really? Which African country did Botswana send those elephants to? Can you give me your reference or info source on this incident?
