Can the host of this platform share a bit about the genesis of this platform and how this foundation is being funded? Furthermore, I can fully comprehend the notion that Democratic principles/practices existed in Africa pre-colonialism; however, this fact is a bit romanticized at times and hinders serious explorations on how post-colonialism, we have been psychologically and socio-culturally reprogrammed out of our authentic African selves. Consequently, our collective inability to practice a democracy that benefits the majority on the continent. Democracy has become highly politicized and corrupted globally. It’s more about the practice of plutocratic ideals masked with a democratic facade. It’s the lobbying groups in the US that is controlling American Democracy 😢Voting has become performative after a candidate has been selected by Big Pharma for instance… Is it democracy in its current western iteration that is needed or is it African systems of leadership/governance specific to the African context that is needed? Who will lead and determine which case scenario will be best for one nation or a conglomeration of nations with varied borders on the continent?
I would like to hear a conversation between Dr Achille Mbembe, Dr Nduduzo Makhathini & Duma Gqubule curated by Dr Mpofu Walsh. Wherein we reimagine the politual, economic and cultural.
✅Democracy is achieved through politcs. ✅Freedom is achieved through the free markets. The productivity of the country is what will give each citizens their freedom as a form of location freedom, time free and financial freedom aka capitalism.
How does all this philopolitical hot air you guys are tripping on about create jobs, get us our land back and grow the economy. How is cosmology going to help us erase poverty. And what does anthropology and ancestors have to do with Democracy?
