Your handwriting is amazingly good. Wish I could write like that. At best my writing looks like lots of round noodles coiled in circles. At worst it looks like a spider with parkinsons has fallen in an ink pot and crawled out to die... PS I've done the inks in the window test and I found that ballpoint pen ink was by far the worst. It literally vanished to nothing except the indentations left by the pen. Lamy black fountain pen ink didn't fade. Indian ink didn't fade, neither did Chinese ink. Rollerball ink and gel ink didn't fade. These were all black inks. I've got some blue-black registrar's ink [Diamine] which is supposed to be iron-gall ink. It works perfectly in a fountain pen and it's proper permanent. If you spill water on it, the writing remains totally unscathed.
I wonder how Rorher und Klingner make their fountain pen friendly blue iron gall ink. With little or no gum Arabic I suspect as it isn't slightly water resistant and is truly one of the easiest inks to wash off the fingers. Nice color anyway. Very informative. p.s. I have a few mature white and red oaks in my yard and, sadly, I find neither galls nor truffles there.
That was an impressive video, thank you. And I believe that the cheapest fountain pen ink is iron gall or contains it some of it. I was astonished when I found out that the cheapest blue fountain pen ink ($3/60ml) performs better on cheap paper than a branded one. No feathering or bleedthrough. The consistency seems the same and since I tend to flush my pens often, I don't think any damage is to happen. So far it's all good and well.
2 questions: 1. Does Iron Gall stick well to multipurpose paper? I am trying to be a comic artist and I am afraid of smearing the inks (especially considering my experience with Noodler’s Non-X Feather variant-will it stand a better chance on the Multipurpose paper?)? 2. Is iron gall ink safe to use in a Fountain Ink Pen such as a Jinhao x750 Zebra G-Nib Frankenpen?
I was wondering how you store your dip pen holders. My collection is growing very fast and I have 30+ holders and about 1000 nibs. Storing the nibs was easy but the holders are proving to be problematic because most of them are 7" or longer. Most pen cases only fit 6.5".

Iron gall ink is permanent, it's the pens and paper that fade away.

Great presentation and experiment! I enjoyed the education along with its clarity! Not bad!

I keep mine in a wooden case, but I'm sure you could use a cup style pen holder...
Bravo! Thank you. 🌈
Why do you have to let it sit for two months?
Can you link me to your recipe for Iron Gall Ink?
how much do you charge for the oak gall ink?
