"After the adoption of the Charter of United Nations in 1945, it developed that we were in a world state program under which state socialism was to be the declared form of government for us and for every other country in the world, and under which our individual rights and freedoms and even our political independence and right to govern ourselves and the very integrity of the Republic were all to be threatened by a new form of law-making known as "treaty law." - Frank E. Holman

He was a good Christian and he was a just Governor of Georgia who promoted all people including black people. He opposed federal intervention against individual freedom of choice, which made him appear a white supremacist in the cival rights era. He wasn't.

@roibasses I know Barry Goldwater was not anti-black. Lester Maddox wasn't either. He advanced blacks in the Georgia government more than any other governor before him. Blacks voted Republican because it was the party of Lincoln, not necessarily because of any particular policy of the Republican Party.

@mta415 He did not trust the federal government, was firmly against big government, and loathed government intrusion into an individual's affairs, and if he was around today, he would be a supporter of the Tea Party movement, just like other former segregationist Southern Democrats (who turned Republican), like the venerated Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms.

Lester Maddox would have loved the Tea Partiers!

@mta415 WHAT?!? Good grief! How naive can you be? Why don't you take a look at how many Southerners voted Republican back in Lester's day? What about Strom Thurmond who changed over to the Republican Party because the Republican Party fielded a candidate (Barry Goldwater) that voted against the Civil Rights Act? Ever heard of the "Solid [Democratic] South"? The South is nearly solid today, only it's Republican.
