Twice in the final, isn't it a great performance? Spain and France are teams which can surprisingly score at the end of a match, even in extra time.
Our German TV experts, international players among them, were not so bad. Matthäus stated that Bellingham and Kane were excellent players but seemed to be tired and worn out after a hard season.

So he played for his national team. In a country that has about 20 golden generations. Out of 40 odd defenders he was one of 2 but he was average. He played on the only english team at the time to ever make it to a euro final as a starter. But he was an avg player. So why was he selected nepotism? And if it was on merit? what what does that say about all the defenders he surpassed in the league? In a country which has the best players in the world.

He took an over rated country with over hyped players to 3 semifinsls and 2 finals including one for the 1st time out of England.
Let me sum it up.
He took a country of underwhelming players with a modest history of success and made them over achieve.
And now they believe they could fly.
Ungratefulness is worst than witchcraft.

What exactly is 'rocky' about being unbeaten in the WC 2018 qualifiers, reaching the semi final of that W/C, 7 wins and 1 defeat in the Euros 2020 qualifiers, reaching the final of Euro 2020, unbeaten in the WC 2022 qualifiers, reaching the quarter finals of that W/C where they lost to beaten finalists France, unbeaten in the qualifiers for Euro 2024, reaching the final of Euro 2024. Throw in only 4 defeats in 23 friendly matches and you have a record that most top tier international mangers would be rewarded with a contract extension. The English only think they should be winning trophies for the same reason they have just 'the FA' (not the' English FA') on their jerseys: unbridled arrogance even in the face of an unrelenting and unflattering reality.
Southgate has definitely achieved a lot and brought stability to the team. It’s always interesting to see different takes on his tenure and what fans expect from the national team.
All very good, but time to move on - Southgate fell short when it really mattered, with England missing real opportunities to win at least one trophy when getting so close (especially the last Euros final, but also this one & the WC semi in 2018 too)
Not every Englishman thinks we should be winning trophies; we're not all arrogant. I as an Englishman would have liked the performances to be considerably better than they were at this year's Euros but hey. As a coach Southgate and the team performed admirably at Euro 2020, but I genuinely feel that the team have gone backwards... and that is down to Southgate not being ruthless enough; namely that he should NOT have played Kane. No wonder Toney was upset at not having more game-time. No, when Southgate confessed after the final that Kane was not at the level he wanted him at, I was enraged. In fact, that admission was enough for him to be sacked immediately IMHO. And that my friend is NOT arrogance

Quite so. Statistically England are on a par with Portugal but stylistically have more in common with Belguim. They are both physically strong, not particularly technically adept but England’s overall record is slightly better. Like England, Belguim had some very good players in the 1960’s and 70’s; Lambert, Van Moer, Van Himst, Van der Elst and in the 80’s; Gerets, Ceulemans, Coeck, Vandenburgh etc. They have twice been World Cup semi-finalists and in the European Championship, runners up and semi-finalists.
People shouldn’t expect any more from England than the Belgians do from their team. The idea that England is some sort of elite footballing nation is nonsense and only has its roots in the fact that the game originated in these islands, but it was the Scottish who really adapted and refined it.
The World Cup victory in 1966 was due to home advantage, a handful of their best players ever, three of whom - Peters, Moore & Hurst were developed by England’s best ever coach - Ron Greenwood, whose West Ham side didn’t play traditional English football.
The success at club level in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s was greatly assisted by Scots, Welsh and Irish players.
England have never produced players skilful enough (with a handful of exceptions) for the very highest international standards due to the league’s physical, results-oriented football (which is what the fans really want) and because we have still not accepted the fact that coaching is a vital part of the game.
Another fact that is not often appreciated by English critics is that other managers are successful because they have a lot of really talented players at their disposal, and a manager cannot do a good job without the necessary resources in terms of human material. So, with limited resources, Southgate played the only way he can and when compared to other England managers I think he's performed a minor miracle.
