  • Zircar Luminar Mold Mix 7 is a refractory mold making medium designed to allow the replication of three-dimensional objects in glass and bronze. Mold Mix 7 is sold as a powder and is prepared for use by mixing thoroughly with water until a paste is created. This paste can then be formed into the desired shape and dried before use. Properly prepared molds of Mold Mix 7 will resolve fine details and possess good strength. Mold Mix 7 molds with no undercuts can be used for multiple castings

    I made and open faced mold and the glass got fused to the mold even when using kiln wash. And the glass didnt flatten out on the open side. Any suggestions?
    Do you let the kiln wash air dry or dry it in the kiln at 400 degrees Fahrenheit? Thanks for the help!

    I am interested in making a Hump mold for slumping. Would I be able to paint the mold mix 6 into a silicon mold and form this mold by building layers?

      @luminarglassproductszrci4802  2 роки тому

      Yes! Mold Mix 7 works when directly applied to silicone, it will peel off of the silicone when it is completely dry.

    I am wanting to do a casting of a couple of ceramic pieces I have make out of clay and bisque fired ceramic. Can I use Mold mix 7 directly on these to make a mold?

      Hi Jet, you should not put the mold mix 7 onto the ceramic directly, it will stick (if sticking happens it can always be removed with water). You can use a mold release before applying the mold mix, we generally recommend Smooth-On Mold Release.

    Once the water is added to the powder, how quickly does it need to be used?

    • @luminarglassproductszrci4802

      The wet mixture can be sealed and kept indefinitely. If it dries out you can simply add a little water to re-hydrate it

      hello! Unfortunately, to my knowledge there is no homemade recipe for Mold Mix 7/Mold Mix 6. You can try to purchase through Ed Hoy International, they may ship to Argentina

    Hi how many casting are these molds good for ?

    • @luminarglassproductszrci4802
      @luminarglassproductszrci4802  Місяць тому

      The number of castings depend on the handling of the mold, I generally get 10+ casting from a mold that is handled with care

    Is it normal that the glass becomes pretty much non-transparent during the melting? :(

    • @luminarglassproductszrci4802
      @luminarglassproductszrci4802  Рік тому

      During melting the glass will turn an opaque orange, but once cooled clear glass will become clear again

    How many casting can You make from one mold aprox?

    • @luminarglassproductszrci4802
      @luminarglassproductszrci4802  10 місяців тому

      If the molds are open faced with no undercuts you can use the mold until the surface begins to lose detail. If the mold is properly primed with a release agent (kiln wash, boron nitride, graphite) you can get up to 20 or more castings before detail is lost

    I am interested in your products but when I try to go to your website I get a "warning:potential security risk ahead" message on Firefox and a "this connection is not private" message on Safari. I'm not sure why as other sites are fine, just thought I'd let you know in case it's something on your end.
