Martins may not blow the competition off the map in any particular event, but he's always close to the top in every event. Phenomenal consistency.

That’s how you win 1-3 in every event. Not 1st in All, it’s too hard to have a body and the stamina to be #1 in all!

I used to think strongman was an old man's game, but this new generation has completely broke the mold. ...which begs the question, is Mark Felix even human? To be as competitive as he was in his later years is completely astonishing.

Agreed, would be more fair for athletes with body types not suited for this event such as Novikov. Those long ass arms compared to his torso make it near impossible for him in this event

The mfer was doing something like 30 steps non stop turbo mode! Granted it was lower steps and probably lighter weight, but sure he would be amazing at this. Looking at the events, I think pudz in his best shape still would be a menace these days. Bus pull? Check. Duck walk into power stairs? Check. Load into yoke? Check. Stones? No problem. Car deadlift? A joy to watch. Only one I'm not sure is the Flintstone lift. But who knows?

I know it definitely favoured the taller guys, but I still think that the mix of events favoured a range of body types. Tom is a super long person with very very long arms, but he managed to do great on the deadlift and the flintstone barbell, and it's those versatile athletes who tend to win! And it's also easy to see Oleksii struggle on this event and say that this cost him the title, but other shorter athletes managed the power stairs (Mariusz was famously good at this event and is the same height as Oleksii, although he didn't have the same long arms). For me, Oleksii faltered mainly because he went *so hard* trying to get that last rep on the deadlift, and gave the bus pull *so much* effort, and I think that his body kind of gave out. He's also fighting a war and he had arguably been competing too much in the for his own good over the previous 12 months. So yes, he definitely was disadvantaged by this event, but that's not what caused his WSM2023 bid to fizzle out!

By all accounts, he shouldn't have even been able to get to this event. This was his 14th straight top 10 final, and he was 40 years old. He would still end up 4th here. That is simply unheard of. Not even Big Z did that.
Brian Shaw was incredible until his last event just on that basis alone.
