I gotta figure out a hashtag for “invisible disabilities” sure my large number of pills isn’t necessarily “sexy” but my weird brain, strange metabolic system and stretchy joints are definitely ‘hot and badass’ (I’m at peculiarleah on instagram) keep staying amazing and spreading much needed information on disability life!
I’ve only had one person say to me “your too cute to be disabled” and that literally crushed me as a kid. I have no control over my disability and I can’t believe so many people think that way. Like they have a right of passage to being pretty but you should be seen as ugly if you have a disability. Do people literally have to be taught that everyone is pretty and beautiful and hot af in their own way? Twitter and instagram: rockinroxie1922
I actually found about the hashtag #HotPersonInAWheelchair because of a blog post from Kim Saunders (aka TheCr**pled Scholar), and I can totally understand people being bitter about something from four years ago that's still being used to hurt and harass disabled people. I also LOVE the hashtag and how it gives Ken Jennings a giant middle finger with a big smile.
@letthebonesspeak on instagram - loving this hashtag, the idea that a disabled person is exactly that, and is as real and full a person as the next should not be a revolutionary idea! Can’t wait to follow everyone that leaves their details and get to know even more of our community. ✨♿️
I wrote about this for my dissertation- I wrote about how disability has been presented in literature and how that's effected views today. Like the day after I handed it in #hotpersoninawheelchair was on twitter and I was like YES! x x x
Why do we feel the need to quantify compliments? “You’re beautiful... _for a disabled person.”_ You’re hot... _for a fat person.”_ “You’re great... _for a person who I would normally view as ugly, or stupid, or lesser, or too flawed to have those qualities.”_ That’s not a compliment. It’s deeply insulting. People aren’t beautiful _despite_ their disabilities. They’re beautiful, or smart, or funny, or kind. _Period._ Give compliments like you would anyone else. It’s not hard.
I've had my "Dad" (we don't speak anymore) suggest that I go through surgery to walk and find a GF. 1. Surgery made it worse and 2. I'm more interested in gaining a friendship first so I haven't been so upfront to anyone. I do have eyes you could get lost in though! 😆🤘
I have a UA-cam channel that's the same name as this one about tourette's syndrome. Also, I so wish I could participate in this hashtag, but my insurance won't pay for a wheelchair even though I need it. Maybe we need more hashtags?
