I'm using a bunch of different palette knives, I encourage you all to get different sizes and shapes and see what you like and what works well for you.. and then practice! You will get better at it every time.
I'm using my blue painters tape to put down a border and then paint the inside with my Turquoise. This is such an easy thing to do, but gives a big impact in your artwork. Try it!
I show you how I load the different colors onto the back of my palette knife, using nice thick scoops of paint. I mention a "quenelle" which is used in fancy restaurants. A quenelle is a football shaped scoop of ice cream or other soft moldable food. It rolls the two colors together in a tube shape on the back of the palette knife that blends the colors and sets you up to create a beautiful petal shape.
You can use this technique to create hundreds of different flowers, making your petals in different sizes and shapes. It's very relaxing to get lost in this wonderful thick consistency and see the paint standing up and making flowers!
Several of you have commented that you have cake decorating experience, thats wonderful! Your skills will come in very handy in these techniques. If you've never used cake decorating tools it's OK, you will quickly understand how to use them. Practicing is very important because that's how you learn. Or you can take a class with me 😉..

My momma was an oil painter. Now I think I know how she did the bouquet of daisies. You could see the texture and it was impossible not to touch. Great work Mina!
As soon as I get my cake decorating set back from a granddaughter, I’m going to try this. Great job as usual Mina. 💛
So soft and delicate looking, just beautiful Mina! 💗😍
Thank you
It depends....in art, chaos is a good thing!
It depends on the type of chaos, some types bother me and others don't.
These flowers turned out so beautiful.
Do you know if this paint would peel off of a silicone mat just like normal acrylic paint?
I’ve been wanting to do a hydrangea painting to honor my late grandma. She painted hundreds of oil paintings through her life, most of which were or hydrangeas and roses. I’ve been practicing doing the flowers on a silicone mat so I can make the little Star shaped flowers individually but then after drying I can bunch them together to make the partial orb shape.
I'm pretty sure it would work on a Silicone mat.. I have been practicing on canvas boards with the plastic wrap still on, the flowers will peel right off of the plastic wrap.. I'd love to see your hydrangeas! Are you using a cake tip?
@@MinaVillegasArt that’s such a great idea to practice on the plastic!! I’ve been using a small rounded diamond shaped pallet knife like you used today. I just use the paint straight from the tube currently. I was about to try paint mixed with gel gloss to try to stretch my paint a little more. Then I saw you using these and I thought it may be worth investing in it eventually
Stopped midway to buy the 3d paint!
Yay!!! Youre going to have so much fun!!!
Interesting. Overall potential but the opposite effect from a fluid art piece. My preference is easily fluid. So chunky and heavy. Not my favorite.
I'm glad that I have over 400 Fluid Art videos for you to choose from ☺️ I like to try new techniques, it keeps life interesting. Thanks for watching Barbara
