Did anyone else get a tear when listening to this? These men are amazingly outstanding and I love these men and their songs!!! Long live The King's Singer's!!!
I have listened to this about 100 times since it was played in our church last Christmas for a musical meditation. I love the crescendo at the end. The light of Christ is unsurpassed.
Dear God these guys are like the best singers Ever.... last night before turning off the comp i found their 'you are the new day' song and for over an hour just coudlnt stop listening to their stuff, and hitting replay till it was the middle of the night...
@Ibambikate Probably the two greatest male acapella groups of our time. It speaks volumes that both groups are big fans of each other, as well as the Swingle Singers.
We Mormons love our choir which we lovingly refer to as the Motabs. We also love the King's Singers. Combined they produce memorable music. If you're a music critic and don't like this song . . . . . . . Santa ain't comin' to 'yr house this year! And that's the truf!
@Wally773MTG Wally? How in the world can you use such prophane language whilst listening to this most GLORIOUS song? Wait,,, don't answer that, love. In future, please be careful. One can respect it if this is who and 'where' you are in life, but I implore you to be mindful of those of us who listen to this song (and the like) as a means of worship to our great and wonderous SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST! Thank you, Wally. Cheers, mate! - J
Just ran across this. Most amazing version I've ever heard. Had to look it up, a group named for King's College in Cambridge. Love the solo tenor beginning then multi-part harmony. Quite a feat to organize a full orchestra and giant backup choir. Love that they don't keep repeating the "Fall on your knees ..." refrain, but change to the "Christ is the Lord ..." verse. There are several versions of English lyrics, plus the original French. Interestingly, the lyrics were written by an atheist (at least what that meant in 1843), and the music by a Jew. While it began in a Catholic Church, it's creators plus humanist lyrics speaking of Jesus' love and personal salvation weren't appreciated by the Vatican of the day so they tried to suppress it, but can't keep a great song down.
@Baritone45 Although I do love this version and the men in the choir sound fantastic, I was able to hear the KS perform this song with an orchestra last Christmas and the audio was much better. It made for an even more incredible experience with this song. But nothing taking away from this one because it's still amazing.
@Kurohimemiya Yes and yes, I believe. MoTab doesn't go very often, but Kings Singers do more frequently, I believe. MoTab's website is somewhere in the doodlydoo of another video from their channel or something. Or you could google it.
Lovely. The arrangement is interesting, with more close harmony in the bass than I am used to. Maybe it takes perfect pitch do make it work! (Last I heard, all or most of the KS has perfect pitch.) The audio level is quite low.
@fistyke Fair enough. They don't seem to use mics often, at least not noticeable individual mics. Perhaps the audio guy should have turned down his mic and the soloist didn't adjust enough.
@Wally873MTG: I'm thinking TKS actually enjoys collaborating with the MTC, and aren't "selling out". But if they are, in actuality, selling out, here's a list of artists who also "sold out" by performing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir: Bryn Terfel (numerous gigs), Tom Brokaw, Claire Bloom, Frederica von Stade (twice), Jane Seymour, John Rhys-Davies, Brian Stokes-Mitchell, Deborah Voigt, Natalie Cole, Angela Lansbury, James Taylor, Peter Graves, Edward Hermann and, oh yeah, Renee Fleming. Shame on them. ;)
@Wally773MTG You don't know how many professional musical director I know buy their tickets to go see them to toronto when they come to canada, They've won grammys and everything, Mack Wilberg is a genius, Just listen, the more people you conduct, the harder it is to sing so perfectly as this choir, is one of the best choirs in all the world, and is not "not singers" people that say that, they are really respected in the musical business, i've never saw someone with a musical degree laugh...
@Wally773MTG Wally, I am a fairly accomplished amateur singer. I've sung "O, Holy Night" with organ and choir of 15 backing me up. I've sung "I Wonder as I Wander" a capella from the balcony, I've directed my small church choir with instrumental accompaniment. I totally agree that, as a rule of thumb, the larger the choir, the lesser each individual's quality. HOWEVER, have you listened to the MTC? They sing "The Prayer" on here as one! They are a great choir, not just great in number.
Hmmm, I like them more when they sing a capella, just the six of them. The orchestra and the immense choir overwhelm the King's Singers, even when they sing amplified. Though the song is beautiful, but not in this kind of setting.
James King It's too slow and it lumbers because of the extra choir and the orchestra behind them. Very difficult to keep up the tempo and energy with so many people. Still, it's a nice job.
James King In fact, have you ever seen a Mormon Tabernacle Choir number that wasn't slow and tired? They're beautifully big and full, but decidedly dull and heavy.
+James King In Scandinavia, O Holy Night is sung very slow. To us this is how it is sung. Silent night on the other hand is sung rather faster than the English Version, as we sing ut while parading around the Christmas Three. O yes, we parade around the Christmas tree while holding hands and singing.
A terrible performance... I couldn't hear much other than orchestra- the tune just got lost, which should never happen in a song such as this! The origional is much better than this arrangement!

I always tear up to this crying now .
Well, this is still the best version out there all these years later!❤️🙏🎄
What a truly beautiful voice Paul has.
Don't need to be Christian to appreciate beauty of some of the creations it has inspired.
I have listened to this about 100 times since it was played in our church last Christmas for a musical meditation. I love the crescendo at the end. The light of Christ is unsurpassed.
Oh praise His Name forever!! 🎚️❤️❤️❤️
Unparalleled perfection. Always humbles me this song 🎵
La mejor interpretación del mítico villancico O Holy Night que he escuchado jamas. Magnífico.

@Ibambikate Probably the two greatest male acapella groups of our time. It speaks volumes that both groups are big fans of each other, as well as the Swingle Singers.
So beautiful!!!
Whatever your religion is, if you have one, such beauty should be shared with everyone ;) You don't need God to appreciate it.
Beautiful arrangement.
My most favorite carol. Beautifully done.

Beautifully controlled arrangement... :')

You can get it on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas CD Rejoice and be Merry.
It’s almost that time! ☺️☺️☺️

When christmas was actually christmas :'(
AMAZING!
I am not Christian, but when I here Holly Night, I might think about religion once more.......
@Kurohimemiya Thank you for being so polite! It's nice to see that humanity still has courteous people in their internet midst.
@Kurohimemiya Yes and yes, I believe. MoTab doesn't go very often, but Kings Singers do more frequently, I believe. MoTab's website is somewhere in the doodlydoo of another video from their channel or something. Or you could google it.
You are most welcome my good sir/ma'am.
Lovely. The arrangement is interesting, with more close harmony in the bass than I am used to. Maybe it takes perfect pitch do make it work! (Last I heard, all or most of the KS has perfect pitch.) The audio level is quite low.
Nke'a bu uto egwu. Chukwu gozie unu!

Does anyone know if there is sheet music available for this arrangement?
BEAUTIFUL , BOSKIE , CUDNE ...
@fistyke Do you mean the countertenor, the high tenor, or the regular tenor who is singing lead on this song? I think they are all impeccable.
Is there a better audio recording of this?
@Wally873MTG: I'm thinking TKS actually enjoys collaborating with the MTC, and aren't "selling out". hey josh it is olivia.

Tremendous
I first heard this played as a trumpet solo by my Zulu neighbour in Botrwana Lorenzo

@JSBaldwin623 Thank you very very much.
Same here :)
@JSBaldwin623 Not at all, I feel its just as important to be polite online as it is to be polite anywhere else. ^-^ Thank you for the compliment.
Two questions:
Do you have a website?
Do you go on tours?
this and chanticleer's version are both perfect
Was this with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir? :) I love them :)
Where is this? RAH?
Salt Lake City, Utah. Mormon Conference Center

@Woundtootight
Et cum spiritu tuo!
Cudownie!.....
@123arsmith He quit!
Oh my.........Dominus Vobiscum.....
Is there anyone who would´t assume god himself couldn´t sing like Paul Phoenix?
GO MORMON CHOIR!
Oh hear, the angel voices XD
beautiful!!!!!! the 5 ppl that dislikes must be death!!!!
5 people can't hear the angel voices.
@Wally773MTG How many people do you know, sparky? Four or five? Big deal. Who cares about your observation.
Hmmm, I like them more when they sing a capella, just the six of them. The orchestra and the immense choir overwhelm the King's Singers, even when they sing amplified. Though the song is beautiful, but not in this kind of setting.
Wrong
Honestly... As much as I love the King's Singers, this whole composition is just very messy.
James King It's too slow and it lumbers because of the extra choir and the orchestra behind them. Very difficult to keep up the tempo and energy with so many people. Still, it's a nice job.

Junk.
You’re junk
A terrible performance... I couldn't hear much other than orchestra- the tune just got lost, which should never happen in a song such as this! The origional is much better than this arrangement!
You are absolutely insane. This is the most beautiful rendition I’ve ever heard.
