How does the APR-1400 nuclear reactor work?

- Energy demand in the UAE is growing at an annual rate of about 9 per cent -- three times the global average. Developing a reliable supply of electricity is critical to the future growth of the Nation.
ENEC awarded the Prime Contract for the UAE civil nuclear energy program to a consortium led by the Korean Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) -- one of the world leaders in safety, plant reliability and efficiency.
KEPCO is the world's third largest nuclear energy company. It is recognised by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) as a leader in safety, plant reliability and efficiency, and currently receives among the highest scores in the WANO performance indicator program.
The KEPCO consortium will design, build and operate four 1,400 MW nuclear power plants in the UAE. The first plant is expected to start operating in 2017. The other three plants are scheduled to be completed and operational by 2020.
Here is how the APR-1400 provides safe, clean, reliable and efficient electricity. - Наука та технологія
Basically, a nuclear reactor is a steam engine. This should make all those steampunk fans happy to know that steam is still king.

Just bought my APR-1400 reactor!
What are these magic uranium atoms that maintain their mass when they split?!
Quantum bro
@@mustafaburakzeybek3619 Now I get it.
A lot of animations on the internet get this wrong.
Lmao that was my first observation. Lol
@@tehmtbz Yeah ain't that right.
EXCELLENT
Congratulations to ENEC for choosing what is probably the best reactor on the market that can also be build in time and without going over budget. That's great, wish my new government will choose it instead AP1000 for obvious reasons.

@@JahidHasan-yh1vj L like looser as used on Tik Tok? We are all losers because green parties were allowed panicking about technologies they don't know. Just one example; this people calculate power from solar cells as if sun was shining 24 hours a day. We either go full nuclear or face the consequences, if it is not already too late to do anything.
A lot of Google warriors down here... People try to act so smart but let's be real, if anyone here actually understood nuclear physics on the level a nuclear physicist does, we probably wouldn't be on UA-cam to begin with...
Epic
the problem this video does not comment is the RADIACTIVE WASTE generated, and what to do with it after using it as fuel for steam creation. This waste has to be buried for hundreds of years, until radioactivity is finished.., and then is not dangerous for human being. I think that's the main problem of this energy (nuclear fision). I think nuclear fusion is the only energy we would develope. People understands very good all kind of energies if they are explained with complete annalysis of advantages and disadvantages.
Stupid....every genius peoples has been arrested after making home nuclear reactor

Nah, a lot of physicists are on UA-cam right now

I am no expert but having worked on steam generators boilers heat exchangers and all kinds of steam related equipment.
I do have a fair idea how it all works.
The way nuclear reactors work is relatively basic but how the heat is used and the ancillary systems after the reactor can vary immensely.
😎
The problem was that the reactor moderating material used in Chernobyl, graphite, has a positive void coefficient, and was thus susceptible to increasing neutron activity as the reactor temperature increased. So, once the reactor became too hot, it was extremely difficult to make it cool down again, hence the steam explosion which blew the roof off of the reactor building. Unlike modern reactors, Chernobyl had no containment building, so the reactor material was ejected into the atmosphere.
False. Graphite moderation alone does not intrinsically have a positive void coefficient. Please don't talk about stuff you don't understand. There's already enough misinformation surrounding nuclear energy.
@@magicstix0r why then, please explain god of information
@@gustavoduarte915he doesn’t know also hahahaa
@@gustavoduarte915
The steam coefficient of reactivity (sometimes void) depends on the steam content in the reactor with a graphite moderator; graphite itself does not have it at all, it serves as a moderator, so he is right here.
Doesn't matter how advanced it is, at the end of the day it is a fancy steam engine...
we still need to blow air very fast on a spinning wheel to make energy, lol...
Yeah. Unless u find another way to convert energy, einstein

The accident was set off when the operators almost shut down the reactor and then initiated steps that let the reactor to go out of control. A little internet searching will provide more detailed information. After the steam explosion and a hydrogen explosion the graphite remaining in the core burned for about a week.
This here is about APR1000, not over 50 years old RBMK with positive void coificient. There is lots of videos about those if you prefer writing about troubles, not advanced reactors.

Really? Why not thorium cycle?
not many people invest in it
dont you need u232 to start with?
1) There are too many problems with the design and materials of the reactor.
2) They haven’t closed the cycle on plutonium yet, and you’re already asking for thorium :)
THIS DESTROY THE NOT EXISTENT FUTURE
Guess
Yeah but only used like 0.1% of the fuel resulting in 250k tons of waste fuel now. Thorium salt reactor is much better but was invented the same time as this. and can burn up all the fuel and the stuff we have laying around.
We need very safe and cheap reactor NOW and Kepco can build them. First commercial MSRE will be built around 2030, who knows how long it will take before China starts building them for other countries. It is great texhnology though.
Mean. The nueclar reactor doesnt creat electricity. Just heat the water and vapor move turbine that move generators. Ok. Mean what ever move the generators creat eletricity. Actually not need nuclear reactors.
natural gas and coal power plants work the exact same way and wind turbines are also connected to generators with gears
You have to figure out how to turn heat into spinning a generator, you could use Sterling engines but they are really big and steam turbines are cheaper and almost as efficient. Basically you generate power by boiling water using natural gas, steam, nuclear, or any other way. It doesn't matter how as long as it gets hot.
@@pilotavery
Well, in general, if you heat up the reactor coolant in the primary circuit more strongly, the steam in the secondary circuit will have a higher pressure, the efficiency can be increased to 41%, fast reactors have shown this.
It is only necessary to develop reactors with supercritical pressure.

Ephesians 2:4-8 kjv
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
