  • Energy demand in the UAE is growing at an annual rate of about 9 per cent -- three times the global average. Developing a reliable supply of electricity is critical to the future growth of the Nation.
    ENEC awarded the Prime Contract for the UAE civil nuclear energy program to a consortium led by the Korean Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) -- one of the world leaders in safety, plant reliability and efficiency.
    KEPCO is the world's third largest nuclear energy company. It is recognised by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) as a leader in safety, plant reliability and efficiency, and currently receives among the highest scores in the WANO performance indicator program.
    The KEPCO consortium will design, build and operate four 1,400 MW nuclear power plants in the UAE. The first plant is expected to start operating in 2017. The other three plants are scheduled to be completed and operational by 2020.
    Here is how the APR-1400 provides safe, clean, reliable and efficient electricity.

    Basically, a nuclear reactor is a steam engine. This should make all those steampunk fans happy to know that steam is still king.

    Congratulations to ENEC for choosing what is probably the best reactor on the market that can also be build in time and without going over budget. That's great, wish my new government will choose it instead AP1000 for obvious reasons.

      the problem this video does not comment is the RADIACTIVE WASTE generated, and what to do with it after using it as fuel for steam creation. This waste has to be buried for hundreds of years,until radioactivity is finished.., and then is not dangerous for human being. I think that's the main problem of this energy (nuclear fision). I think nuclear fusion is the only energy we would develope. People understands very good all kind of energies if they are explained with complete annalysis of advantages and disadvantages.

    I am no expert but having worked on steam generators boilers heat exchangers and all kinds of steam related equipment.
    I do have a fair idea how it all works.
    The way nuclear reactors work is relatively basic but how the heat is used and the ancillary systems after the reactor can vary immensely.

    The problem was that the reactor moderating material used in Chernobyl, graphite, has a positive void coefficient, and was thus susceptible to increasing neutron activity as the reactor temperature increased. So, once the reactor became too hot, it was extremely difficult to make it cool down again, hence the steam explosion which blew the roof off of the reactor building. Unlike modern reactors, Chernobyl had no containment building, so the reactor material was ejected into the atmosphere.

    • @magicstix0r
      @magicstix0r 5 років тому +16

      False. Graphite moderation alone does not intrinsically have a positive void coefficient. Please don't talk about stuff you don't understand. There's already enough misinformation surrounding nuclear energy.

      The steam coefficient of reactivity (sometimes void) depends on the steam content in the reactor with a graphite moderator; graphite itself does not have it at all, it serves as a moderator, so he is right here.

    The accident was set off when the operators almost shut down the reactor and then initiated steps that let the reactor to go out of control. A little internet searching will provide more detailed information. After the steam explosion and a hydrogen explosion the graphite remaining in the core burned for about a week.

    • @pilotavery
      @pilotavery Рік тому

      You have to figure out how to turn heat into spinning a generator, you could use Sterling engines but they are really big and steam turbines are cheaper and almost as efficient. Basically you generate power by boiling water using natural gas, steam, nuclear, or any other way. It doesn't matter how as long as it gets hot.

    • @nedward.7442
      @nedward.7442 4 місяці тому

      @@pilotavery
      Well, in general, if you heat up the reactor coolant in the primary circuit more strongly, the steam in the secondary circuit will have a higher pressure, the efficiency can be increased to 41%, fast reactors have shown this.
      It is only necessary to develop reactors with supercritical pressure.

    5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
